[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1898911] Re: deja-dup fails due to gpg issue

2020-10-08 Thread Glenn Brumfield
A Google search yielded:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1057627/duplicity-fails-with-bad-
session-key-error

which basically blamed the error on a gpg upgrade issue. I don't know
how to fix that.

As an experiment I created a new folder (same HDD, same partition, etc.)
to back up to. Backed up using the same passphrase as before, and the
backup occurred successfully. However, that does not mean I would be
able to recover any of the previous backups. Hope that helps.

2020-10-07 Thread Glenn Brumfield
After repeated attempts to backup, deja-dup now appears to begin backup
successfully, but is unable to verify the backup and repeatedly asks for
the passphrase. When passphrase is entered, the verification fails and
asks for the passphrase again.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1740921] Re: Nautilus renames partitions on external USB HDD

2019-01-30 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Thank you for your attention to this bug report. It had been so long since
I submitted the report that I upgraded to Lubuntu 18.04.1 in the interim.
Since Lubuntu uses File Manager PCManFS rather than Nautilus, [CODE] gvfs
-li [/CODE] will only return [CODE] gvfs: command not found [/CODE]. Since
this is a production machine, I can't reinstall Ubuntu 16.04 with Unity
just for troubleshooting at this late date. PCManFS has not renamed any of
my external HDD file partitions in 18.04.1; perhaps this was an aberration
caused by the last updates to the end-of-life-for-Unity-based 16.04 OS.
Thank you again for your time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1740921] [NEW] Nautilus renames partitions on external USB HDD

2018-01-02 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Public bug reported:

Nautilus adds the number "1" to the partition names on my external
backup USB HDD (e.g., EXT4 = EXT41, JFS = JFS1, NTFS = NTFS1). This
seems to have occurred since the last set of updates. I speculate that
this may or may not have something to do with the recent 'Backups'
(Deja-Dup) update within the last week, but I don't know how to verify
this. I have verified the correct partition names using GParted from a
Live-DVD of Ubuntu 16.04.3; the correct names do not have the appended
"1" added to the partition name(s) on the external USB drive. Names
appear to be correct for the internal HDD for my PC. I have attached a
screenshot of Nautilus with the affected partitions displayed. I am
using Ubuntu 16.04 with all updates as of this date.

This affects me. Zotac ZBox ID45 with Nvidia GT640 running Mythbuntu
14.04 version 0.27+fixes. Error message seemingly pops up at random
times. Nvidia driver is 331-113 updates; just changed from 'release' to
'updates' because another Nvidia bug necessitated a fix release to
updates. 14.04 seems to have a long history with Nvidia bugs, well over
a year. I wonder if this will ever get fixed before the next LTS!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1416730] [NEW] Brasero incorrectly detects blank-cd capacity

2015-01-31 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Public bug reported:

Using the GUI, when attempting to burn an audio cd, Brasero detects a
Memorex 700MB blank-cd as an 800MB blank-cd. Brasero allows 700MB audio
files to be assigned to a burning job for that blank-cd, simulates,
burns and reports a successful burn. When cd is ejected then reinserted,
Nautilus is unable to read any file properties for the resulting audio
cd and hangs when requested to do so. At this point, Nautilus hangs
Ubuntu if Nautilus is force-closed. This results in being unable to
eject the cd or shutdown Ubuntu from the menu. This requires a Ctl-Alt-
PrtSc+REISUB to reboot the hung system.

i expect Brasero to correctly report blank-cd size and prevent too many
files from being added to a blank-cd. Failing that capability, I expect
Brasero to report cumulative size of selected files for burning so that
I may manually avoid adding too many files for blank-cd capacity.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1392519] Re: Hotspot function does not work in 14.04 LTS

2014-11-13 Thread Glenn Brumfield
OK, disregard this bug. The Hotspot funtion doesn't specify that it is
ad-hoc only, and is not infrastructure-capable - my Android phone can't
use ad-hoc.

This is working for my old notebook in ad-hoc mode.

** Changed in: unity-control-center (Ubuntu)

Hotspot creation appears to work, but other devices (PCs, cell phone)
can't detect wifi signal from hotspot. My PC is able to use wifi as a
client, but can't broadcast as a hotspot when on Ethernet. Wifi card
is an Intel 6230, so hardware shouldn't be an issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1284308] Re: Bogus another operation in progress error. Can't copy files from a bluetooth device

2014-10-11 Thread Glenn Brumfield
This also affects Ubuntu 14.04 Ubuntu 14.10 beta as of 11 October
2014. Lubuntu 14.10 beta is also affected, so this seems common to bluez
as well as blueman.

Bug description:
I have upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10.

And as usual, with the upgrade, a whole new bluetooth issue, which
this times makes transferring files from the phone to the computer
(which already was painful) completely impossible!

  How I reproduce (100% systematic):
1 - click on the Bluetooth icon in the notification area
2 - from the dropdown menu, choose bluetooth settings
3 - select the phone among the listed devices
4 - click on Browse files
5 - A Nautilus windows opens, allowing me to browse files on the phone. Open
the DCIM/Camera folder
6 - Select a couple of files. Either drag and drop them, or copy and then
paste them, into a folder on the computer

= I systematically get an error, but it can be any of the two
variants shown in the two screenshots (one says there was an error
copying the file, the other says there was an error getting
information about the file; in both cases the given reason is another
operation in progress. Note also that in one case there is a Retry
button, in the other there is not - pure nonsense).

I then ejected the phone with the eject button next to its name in
Nautilus, and repeated the whole process.

I randomly get any of three outcomes:
  - the one described above (MOST of the times)
  - at step 4, I get an error This location could not be displayed. Another
operation in progress, so I cannot even browse files
  or
  - at some point (not sure whether it was at step 4 above or when ejecting
the phone) something CRASHES (I get the usual Ubuntu message informing me of
that).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1372402] [NEW] Unable to read photos on phone via Bluetooth

2014-09-22 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Public bug reported:

I am able to pair, connect, browse and view files on my phone via
Bluetooth (BT) with the default applications. However, thumbnails for
files are not presented - only placeholders with generic file names. I
can select and view images on my phones internal memory, but not on my
16 Gb SD card. My phone is an HTC Rezound running Android 4.0.3 OEM non-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1358134] Re: Bluetooth unable to receive files from phone

2014-09-06 Thread Glenn Brumfield
I've found a workaround that is working for me: install Lubuntu Desktop
Environment alongside Unity DE:

[CODE] sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop [/CODE]

My smartphone now not only pairs but connects to my PC; I can transfer
photos from my phone to my PC now in both Unity and Lubuntu DE's.

The bluetooth packages have the same versions in common in Lubuntu and
Unity, but Unity has more bluetooth packages in addition.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1358134] Re: Bluetooth unable to receive files from phone

2014-08-19 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Additional information: When I select a photo on my phone to push to the
PC, the Bluetooth icon on the upper taskbar momentarily changes to have
a padlock on the lower-right side of the icon. After about 1 to 5
seconds, the padlock disappears. Even though the phone and PC are paired
(it says so on both devices), they do not connect and remain connected.
This is only the case for Ubuntu; Lubuntu works well for this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1358134] [NEW] Bluetooth unable to receive files from phone

2014-08-18 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04.1 64-bit: Bluetooth will not receive photos or files from
HTC Rezound running Android 4.0.3 OEM. I can browse files on the phone,
but cannot use them (copy, transfer, etc.). If I attempt to transfer
files from phone to PC, I get anOBEX error message. I also occasionally
see an input/output error message. Bluetooth can send files to the
phone.

photos successfully on the same hardware.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

I haven't tried and stopped udevtrigger and sleep x yet; that's
next.

Instead of 'sudo lightdm stop' and 'sudo lightdm start', I've had
consistently good luck (so far) with 'sudo service lightdm --full-
restart'.

I've not had it come up ok today, so I don't know if, when it comes up

+1 - System76 ServalPro7 running Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit. Brasero fails to
eject CD's DVD's after burning, but the file manager other
applications are able to eject media without having to use the manual
eject button. This seems to be a long-running bug in Brasero.

When burning a disc (audio, data, or from iso-image) I always check the
'eject after burn' option, but it never does eject.
I have to use the button on the drive to get my new disc out. The discs
themselves are OK.

  In detail:
After successfully burning a CD, brasero asked to please eject the CD
yourself (or similar, I've it in german language). So I eject it. And the
dialog doesn't disappear and the only option available remains the Cancel
button. It should be OK, to acknowledge that I've ejected the CD. I hesitated
and didn't know exactly what it would cancel…

Please see also bugs #474233 and #549184.

It's a quite old issue. But it still remains :-(

Please reopen #474233 and fix the issue for LTS Ubuntu 12.04.
