2014-07-24 Thread Pablo Almeida
Thanks for everyone involved. Mark must be happy. This was one of his
favorite bugs. :)

 Excellent!
That's a feature I was missing for a very long time.
It now works the way I expected.
Thanks a lot for fixing this!

Launcher, all the windows of that application should be shown with the
spread. The user should then be able to drag and drop the file in a windows
in the spread to load the file into that specific window.

   [Test Case]
   1) Open two windows instances of the same application (say firefox)
   2) Drag a file from the file-manager or the desktop and hover the
 firefox icon
   3) After one second the firefox icon is hovered, the spread will occur
   4) You should be able to hover one of the firefox windows and it should

 be focused

   5) You should now be able to drop the content you're dragging (if the
 selected
  application supports that content).

   [Regression Potential]
This codepath was mostly disabled in the current compiz and unity code
because it was buggy, so the regression potential is very low, although it
might happen that, if some race-condition happens, when closing the scale
the launcher might be still painted as if it would be in scale mode
(desaturated) even if it's not the case anymore.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1241857] Re: installing samba from sharing options stops responding

2013-10-28 Thread Pablo Almeida
I can confirm this. The way it works is terrible, because the shared
folder will appear on the network just fine, but then when you try to
open it, it just fails without permissions.

Speaking of which, since now we have some breathing room on the DVD,
what about including samba and libpam in the CD? I know it's not a very
common use case, but they are really tiny packages and they would make
life easier for people (not having to type a password, not having to
restart the session etc.).

Created a new folder in nautilus and then right click and selected

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1210910] [NEW] Mouse settings don't work in some sessions.

2013-08-10 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

In Raring, in some sessions, the mouse and touchpad settings are not
what they're supposed to be: too slow, scrolling doesn't work as well as
two-finger tapping to open context-menu and keyboard cancellation when
typing. Rebooting solves the problem, but it comes back sometimes. I
can't reproduce it, as it seems random, but I'm in one of those sessions
right now.

Note: I reported this bug against gnome-control-center, as it's the
closest I found to mouse settings. It's nice to notice that I cant' find
touchpad options in the menu when open the mouse configurations window,
if I'm in one of the sessions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1110809] [NEW] Online Accounts should try to reconnect Google Account when back online

2013-01-30 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

When Ubuntu starts, if a Google Account is set up in Online Accounts and
there's no working Internet connection yet, the Shutdown button goes red
and so does its Online Accounts entry, complaining that Ubuntu could not
connect to that account, and the user has to manually click the

So, it looks like my problem wasn't due to torrent files after all. But
yes, I can confirm that it works next time it tries, even if automatically

So, is there any chance this is related to the bug I originally reported
(and was marked as a duplicate of this one we're in)? I'm talking about
Ubuntu One's Copy web link menu being gray, yet clickable and working.

2012/5/18 Joao Leonor 882...@bugs.launchpad.net

one I described, it's similar but not the same.

2012-05-11 Thread Pablo Almeida
João

In the bug I'm talking about, you ARE able to copy the file, but the option
will look like it doesn't work, because it's gray instead of black.

I'm unable to reproduce it now and I can't reboot (it doesn't always
happen), but there's a clear way to do it, and that's how I originally
reported it:

1. Save a file to a Ubuntu One synchronized folder.
2. Wait for the file to upload and the green checkmark to appear.
3. Right click the file and click Publish.
4. Right click again and look for the Copy web link (or something like
that) menu item. The item will be gray, though it works.

2012/5/11 Joao Leonor 882...@bugs.launchpad.net

 Hi Pablo.

I did has you said and I'm still unable to reproduce the bug in 12.04
I even tried other steps, but I was always able to copy/paste the file.

 Cheers.

2012-05-07 Thread Pablo Almeida
Hi Joao. Sorry for taking too long (I wasn't home).

So, yes, I'm still able to reproduce it, but I noticed the steps
described here are incomplete. After doing what's written there, you
need to copy again the file (not its name) and try to paste it somewhere
else. The option works, but it's gray, as if not enabled, though it
works. This is the bug I originally had and they told me that it was a
duplicate of this one.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 975662] [NEW] Opening a new folder from Unity's Dash brings the window unfocused, kills keyboard-only navigation

2012-04-06 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

Note: I don't know if this is a bug in Nautilus or in Unity, but I'm
reporting it as a nautilus issue just to get the logs into the bug.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Have Firefox opened.
2. Open the dash (by taping Super) and search for a folder's name.
3. Navigate to it (if necessary) and type Enter (or Return).
4. Nautilus will open in that folder, but you can't do anything in it with the
keyboard and has to use the mouse.

What should happen instead:

4. Nautilus should open with focus, so you could search a file by typing
or navigate using the arrow keys.

Workaround:

You can Alt-tab to the new opened folder and then it gets the focus. But
this is annoying and kills the convenience of using the keyboard.

  kills keyboard-only navigation

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Note: I don't know if this is a bug in Nautilus or in Unity, but I'm
reporting it as a nautilus issue just to get the logs into the bug.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Have Firefox opened.
  2. Open the dash (by taping Super) and search for a folder's name.
  3. Navigate to it (if necessary) and type Enter (or Return).
  4. Nautilus will open in that folder, but you can't do anything in it with
the keyboard and has to use the mouse.

  What should happen instead:

  4. Nautilus should open with focus, so you could search a file by
typing or navigate using the arrow keys.

  Workaround:

You can Alt-tab to the new opened folder and then it gets the focus.
But this is annoying and kills the convenience of using the keyboard.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 956031] [NEW] Copy web link item from the Ubuntu One menu is gray even when active

2012-03-15 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

Note: I'm reporting this as a nautilus issue only so that apport will
collect some info that might be useful from my computer. This is
probably a Ubuntu One issue, but as I've seen a bug that looks exactly
like this before on nautilus (but with the Paste item), I'll leave it
like this. Also, this is not a problem with radiance theme or something
like this. It happens to Ambiance too.

The problem: When you click Publish in a Ubuntu One syncronized
folder's file and the item gets published, the copy web link item
doesn't look like it's activated, even though it is and can be clicked.
This is confusing and not obvious.

I'm attaching a screenshot. Notice that the option Stop publishing is
active (Parar a publicação in portuguese) but the Copy web link
option is gray (even thougth I can click it).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 940981] [NEW] Don't try to change background based on every user's wallpaper at system start

2012-02-25 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

At system start, when LightDM automatically places the user selection at
the user who logs in the most (or logged in last, I don't know), if
there's a list of users, LightDM goes all the way till there rapidly
changing background for each user it passes over. This seems to make
LightDM lag and also creates a confusing first look.

Running Ubuntu 12.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 902095] [NEW] Copying remaining time estimate is not accurate when doing multiple copies

2011-12-09 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

When you copy two files (or two set of files) from or to the same disk
separately, so that you have two copying progress bars and estimates and
one copying process is dealing with an amount of data larger than the
other, nautilus calculates the estimate as if both copying processes
were going to be running simultaneously until copying is complete, which
is not true. Once the smaller set of files finishes, the larger one will
get its full speed back and finish sooner than the first estimate

My suggestion: Nautilus should be aware that the second file copy is
slowing the first one down, so it should calculate the first's estimate
as something like: estimate for the smaller set of files copy to
finish + estimate time to copy the amount of data that will be left
when the second process ends at both processes speed combined.

Although this approach may look too simplistic, I think it's better than

Although this approach may look too simplistic, I think it's better
than the rather pessimistic approach we're using right now.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 902095] Re: Copying remaining time estimative is not accurate when doing multiple copies

2011-12-09 Thread Pablo Almeida
** Description changed:

When you copy two files (or two set of files) from or to the same disk
separately, so that you have two copying progress bars and estimates and
the one copying process is dealing with a amount of data larger than the
other, nautilus calculates the estimate as if both copying processes
were going to be running simultaneously until copying is complete, which
is not true. Once the smaller set of files finishes, the larger one will
- get it's full speed back and finish sooner than the first estimate
+ get its full speed back and finish sooner than the first estimate
  actually predicted.

My suggestion: Nautilus should be aware that the second file copy is
slowing the first one down, so it should calculate the first's estimate
as something like: estimate for the smaller set of files copy to
finish + estimate time to copy the amount of data that will be left
when the second process ends at both processes speed combined.

Although this approach may look too simplistic, I think it's better than
the rather pessimistic approach we're using right now.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 888917] Re: Login time takes almost 1 minute on Oneiric

2011-11-29 Thread Pablo Almeida
Additional info: something that looks like my problem happened with a
friend's laptop after installing Jupiter. Even without activating it, it
seems like it changed something in ureadahead and then it became as slow
as mine. After uninstalling Jupiter, the problem went away. However, I
don't have Jupiter installed and this happens even in a new
installation. Purging ureadahead and reinstalling it didn't change a
thing either.

Login time takes almost 1 minute on Oneiric

Status in “gnome-session” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Time from LightDM login to the actual usable desktop is too long, much
longer than Natty's, taking something like 40s~60s and, after that, it
still takes a little time to things like clicking the Ubuntu button
bring the dash or clicking Firefox's icon making it twinkle (kind of
reminds me of Windows...). It doesn't seem to be a problem with every
Ubuntu installation. Oneiric on my friends laptop is as fast as Natty
  was in mine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 865062] [NEW] PT-BR translation problem

2011-10-03 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

There are two problems in the translation of the string that reads
something like Backups will be kept until there's little space at the
backup location. I don't know the exact english phrase, but it's clear
that it's wrong even for someone who only understands english. My
suggestion is that it is changed to Cópias de segurança serão mantidas
até que haja pouco espaço restante no local de cópia de segurança.
