[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe

2015-01-28 Thread Poru
I have got this problem upgrading three machines from Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10, two nVidia, one AMD. It's now not possible to log into the AMD one - the desktop is missing and the system is frozen not responding to anything. I have switched to XFCE on that machine and its working fine. The nVidia

2014-12-22 Thread Poru
Oh.. I should add: It wasn't just that the network manager wasn't there on boot, as in the bug title. If the network-manager service was started, the network manager would appear, but pretty much every entry in the drop-down would be greyed out, so no connections could be established, such as

Yep. Likewise. Uninstalled sendmail on Ubuntu 14.04. Upgraded to 14.10. Subsequently had waiting for network configuration during boot, and no network conection and no network manager after boot. Reinstalled sendmail, restarted, and then purged the newly installed sendmail. Now everything seems to

2013-06-08 Thread Poru
I've just upgraded to Raring and noticed that the problem appears to be even worse now. It happens whenever I try to close or minimise Thunderbird. If I go to the ibus keyboard icon in the system tray and click on it, the drop down menu is in a state of constant flickering. I did some experiments

2013-06-08 Thread Poru
From the comments above it looks like there could be several distinct causes of Thunderbird running at 100%. In my case, I have just upgraded to Raring and the situation has got worse. It now happens pretty much every time I try to minimise or close Thunderbird. Thunderbird will just sit there

2013-06-05 Thread Poru
I've attached a screenshot of top showing thunderbird and the ibus python script hamming a couple of processors in tandem, with the flashing unity panel and ibus-daemon not far behind. It's most annoying and, when I have my virtual machine on too, my can't cope any longer and freezes! Note that I

I have also been experiencing thunderbird sometimes consuming 100% cpu. In my case I have a suspicion that it may be related to what appears to be a bug in ibus that I have reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1162008 -- You received this bug notification because

Public bug reported: When I minimise applications such as thunderbird and firefox, they frequently sit in the unity launcher with the application icon and arrow flickering and my computer becomes frozen for up to 5 mins. Checking top shows me that compiz and a python script are both having a

With TB 17.0, and default setup on Quantal, when thunderbird maxes out at 100% it also causes compiz to max out at 100% cpu - which freezes my other applications too. Especially on my dual-core netbook that's a real pain! I found that blocking of compiz can be avoided by turning off the animations
