Agreed that the behavior should be dependent on the existence of
external display and keyboard where the current behavior would make
sense.
I tried how Windows 11 behaves and it did not seem to wake up on mouse
events when laptop lid is closed.
This did not seem to change the behavior:

I don't know which package this problem involves. But I guess this
problem can be easily reproduced with multiple different machines

I found an old printer certificate from /etc/cups/ssl/ folder. Deleting
the certificate made cups to download the new one from printer and now
printing seems to work. Perhaps cups does not update the certificates.

Lately I have been using the controller with a wireless adapter (not
bluetooth). This driver (https://github.com/medusalix/xow) seems to work
well. It would be nice if Ubuntu would ship this driver by default. Now
it must be manually installed from github.

server by using the desktop file browser (Named "Files" in ubuntu menu):

I don't think this laptop has such a block button. There is a button
(F7) with airplane symbol. It does not seem to have any effect (even
when used with FN key).
What I know is:
- If I boot to Windows, the wifi works there.
