Dear Sebastian,
Thanks for your response. I've raised the bug upstream here:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/issues/166

I'll try to keep this bug stream and that one coordinated.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1698778] [NEW] More than one external monitor not supported

2017-06-19 Thread Theron Muller
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 17.04 and on trying to connect more than one
external monitor, the system either goes to a black screen (recoverable
from a system terminal) or will switch on one external monitor but not
both. This was working with the ati proprietary drivers in 16.10, but
these appear not to be supported in 17.04.

This is the what I think is the relevant output of dmesg | egrep 'drm|radeon'
(the errors that come up after I try to connect a second external monitor):
[ 557.739832] [drm:atombios_crtc_mode_fixup [radeon]] *ERROR* unable to
allocate a PPLL
[ 557.739850] [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* failed
to set mode on [CRTC:40:crtc-2]
[ 584.375631] [drm:atombios_crtc_mode_fixup [radeon]] *ERROR* unable to
allocate a PPLL
[ 584.375651] [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* failed
to set mode on [CRTC:40:crtc-2]
[ 589.582640] [drm:atombios_crtc_mode_fixup [radeon]] *ERROR* unable to
allocate a PPLL
[ 589.582656] [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* failed
to set mode on [CRTC:40:crtc-2]

I've replicated the error with a totally new user account, so it doesn't
appear to be an old account settings problem.

Any advice would be welcome.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 931240] Re: [HP Pavilion Notebook PC dv7-6100 Entertainment/CT] Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working

2014-01-23 Thread Theron Muller
Christopher,
Thanks for your information. I've looked into the BIOS upgrade options, and the
only viable means seems to be to install Windows on the machine via the
recovery disk and then upgrade the BIOS using the utility provided by HP. I
don't have a spare SATA drive for this immediately available, so am going to
have to wait to do this until I get one. That may take as long as two or three
months. I'll report back once I've done that. I don't want to break an
otherwise perfectly running machine by overwriting my current Ubuntu
installation.

I can get triple head to work with AMD Radeon 5000M video adapter

FWIW, on the AMD Radeon HD 6470M system System Info states graphics as

  Any thoughts or advice welcome.

Title:
Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Triple head using the HDMI and VGA out with AMD Radeon HD 6470M is not
  working on Ubuntu 11.10.

I can get either monitor to come on through either output extension
but when trying to get both to work at the same time the graphics go
crazy. Both displays are listed in GUI display manager--just don't
come on as expected when changing display settings.

I can get triple head to work with AMD Radeon 5000M video adapter
(same software setup) but the displays go crazy when starting a
  virtual machine or Skype.

FWIW, on the AMD Radeon HD 6470M system System Info states graphics as
Intel® Sandybridge Mobile while on AMD Radeon 5000M graphics are
listed as Gallium 0.4 on AMD REDWOOD.

  Any thoughts or advice welcome.

2014-01-21 Thread Theron Muller
Christopher,
Thanks for your reply. The model number is dv7-61, part number LM415AV. The
description on the box is: HP IDS DSC 6490M/1GDuo dv7-61 Base NB PC.

If you need any additional information, please feel free to ask. I'm
also happy to attempt to test potential fixes, but will likely need
instructions on how to going about doing any testing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 931240] Re: Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working

2014-01-21 Thread Theron Muller
I purchased the laptop in Japan, so the support page is available from
their Japanese site here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=5082217lc=jacc=jpdlc=jalang=jacc=jp
I tried their other Asian English sites, but they didn't return any
hits.

I'm happy to help with finding the information you need on the page if
you let me know what you're looking for.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 931240] Re: Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working

2014-01-08 Thread Theron Muller
Christopher,
Thanks for your message. I had assumed this report had been forgotten about.
The instability issues on the machine with the AMD Radeon 5000M have been
resolved and the triple head setup is working perfectly on Ubuntu 13.10 (from a
fresh install). The last time I checked, the machine with the AMD Radeon HD
6470M was still not handling triple head properly. The computer is with the
manufacturer getting repaired right now, but is due to be returned before the
end of January. Once I get it back, I can run the test you've requested and
will report back here.

  Any thoughts or advice welcome.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1014473] Re: hdmi video out broken on package upgrade

2012-06-18 Thread Theron Muller
This is the contents of dpkg.log from 2012-6-14 through 16. On the 14th
there was a Linux kernel upgrade. That's the only thing I can recognize
as potentially being problematic.

I tried to set the bug to gnome-display-settings, but that package
appears to no longer exist. I'm not sure how to refer to the display
settings tool from within system settings, and doubt it's a problem with
that tool anyway; on startup the hdmi interface monitor is blank, and in
the past it mirrored the vga monitor's startup splash screen.
