[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969315] Re: text in torrent info tabs change after opening it to gibberish

2022-09-01 Thread apinunt
Same problem here since upgrading to Ubuntu Mate 22.04.
Transmission crashed nearly every time I add a torrent, and the Properties
display sometimes changes when I move the window displaying it.
Reopening Transmission it usually runs without issue if I don't add a torrent
and just leave it alone until the torrent is downloaded.

We've been having to run "service pcscd start" manually to use the ACS ACR39U
card reader each time.
Man pcscd seems to say the service is started at boot, which it is not, though
ideally we would like it to start when the reader is plugged into the computer
and stop when it is unplugged.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1249231] [NEW] Evolution locks up occasionally if multiple accounts are scheduled for retrieval

2013-11-08 Thread apinunt
Public bug reported:

I use Linux Mint, currently ver 15, 32 bit, Mate Desktop, and since Ubuntu
changed the default email app from Evolution to Thunderbird, I cannot retrieve
email from each of my accounts automatically and have to request them manually
one at a time.
I had them scheduled to retrieve on a staggered time interval, but when the
interval allows more then one to attempt retrieval at the same time, evolution
hangs and has to be killed manually and restarted.
The only way around this I've found is to manually select the account I wish to
retrieve, and wait for it to complete before selecting another account manually.

Is there some way to schedule retrievals so they will not occur
simultaneously for more than one account?

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-06-24 Thread apinunt
Could this be a handshake/timing problem?
I've experienced this problem on 3 different computers, a 15 yr old IBM
ThinkPad notebook, a Compaq notebook with a Celeron 560 CPU, an HP desktop with
a dual core E5300 CPU, and noticed that the IBM was most affected and along
with the Compaq unable to play a video file off the NAS, the HP was less often
affected and could sometimes play a video off the NAS as long as I did not
advance the slider several minutes into the video. I just replaced the old IBM
notebook with a Samsung NP700G7C having a quad core i7-3630QM CPU and have yet
to be affected by the problem, able to transfer more than 36GB of files from
the NAS without a problem and able to play videos directly off the NAS without
locking up.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-16 Thread apinunt
This problem may be more serious than I previously thought. Moments ago
I moved a 254MB file from my desktop computer to a network drive, and it
seemed to transfer instantaneously. The file was deleted on my computer
and when I looked at the network drive the file name was there, but the
content was 0 bytes. The file was lost and the work to create it will
have to be redone from scratch. Now it appears I can no longer trust
moving files and will need to copy them and verify they are identical on
both the source and the destination before manually deleting the source.

Is there a Linux distribution unaffected by this bug? If it is not going
to be fixed I'm willing to change to another OS as I can't work without
confidence that my files are secure when I move them to a permanent
storage for others to access.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-04-02 Thread apinunt
Wouldn't it be nice to have a single place to report bugs? After going
to the https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gvfs site,
creating a login and trying to figure out just how to use it to report a
bug, I felt the time would be better spent living with the bug and
hoping that it will eventually be cleared.

I'm about to purchase a new computer, and usually I complain loudly
about being forced to purchase a preinstalled MS OS which I have always
previously deleted once getting the computer home. If this bug and the
several others I've been trying to get resolved unsuccessfully, continue
to linger, and the MS OS does not have the same bug, I may begin to
consider the MS OS a blessing rather than wasted money. Some of us have
to produce results with our computers, and although I've worked with
unix all my life, making Linux a more desirable OS, I can live with a
Windows OS until Linux can produce a less buggy 'stable' upgrade.

Sorry if I seem to be frustrated, but the disappointments are beginning
to escalate reducing productivity greatly.

If someone was to create a bug report on bugzilla, please provide a link
to it here, and I will add to it if that will help.

Title:
nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a large directory, almost 50Gb and 45.000 files shared by samba on
ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS server.
I used to copy the whole directory regularly on my desktop, and execute a
backup with deja dup on that.
I did also often backup directly from the samba share.
After upgrading my client to 12.10, copying the directory hangs randomly,
sometimes after having copied just 1 Gb, others having almost completed the
whole transfer.
It just hangs, without any crash.

I noted the also Deja -dup shows the same behaviour, now it's impossible to
complete a backup from the share, it just hangs.
It seems to me that a bug in the samba client might be the cause of these
issues, since neither nautilus nor Deja-dup have problems with local large
directories.

So it sounds like this bug will be left alone in the current version and
only given attention in the next upgrade?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-03-18 Thread apinunt
I'm curious if moving ~/.gvfs to /run/user/{user name}/gvfs has
anything to do with the problem,

In any event, since this only became a problem AFTER an upgrade, it
would seem lacking the attention it deserves.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 880657] Re: stuck retrieving emails from IMAP

2013-02-13 Thread apinunt
Same here too, beginning after an upgrade which changed Evolution to
version 3.6.2

I have about 8 different email accounts and found that the numerous
fetching mail and retrieving POP summary notifications at the bottom
of the screen which keep me from viewing my mail can be eliminated by
clicking on the Send/Receive down arrow, and pointing, but not
clicking on any of the choices it provides. All the fetching mail
and/or retrieving POP summary messages then disappear and I can then
view my emails, and I can retrieve new emails by using Send/Receive
and clicking on each account individually. The accounts are set up with
a staggered interval of time between downloads in an attempt to not try
and access them simultaneously.

My Yahoo account is and always has been set to IMAP+.

Title:
nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

It seems to me that a bug in the samba client might be the cause of these
issues, since neither nautilus nor Deja-dup have problems with local large
directories.

  my system: Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64
  nautilus: 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4
  deja-dup: deja-dup 24.0-0ubuntu1

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-02-05 Thread apinunt
Same problem her, and I have to use xkill to kill everything.
Previously when I mounted an NAS drive I had an entry in /home/$USER/.gvfs
showing the content. After installing Mint 14 /home/$USER/.gvfs no longer shows
the NAS drive connected, but instead I find it appears in both
/run/user/$USER/gvfs AND in /var/run/user/$USER/gvfs, with /var/run being a
link to /run. Why this change? And is this change in any way related to being
the cause of the problem?
In my opinion, this is a very serious problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1077696] Re: mounted samba share stops working for file access

2013-02-03 Thread apinunt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1075923 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923

Same here, both Totem and VLC fail to play videos off my NAS drive, and
Totem cannot be killed but VLC can be killed but remains shown as a
zombie. The NAS drive cannot be unmounted as it shows in use by Totem,
and I have to reboot to clear that.

Why is /home/user/.gvfs no longer used and instead
/run/user/user/gvfs/ used to display the mount?

This is a very major problem for me in how my systems are used, so
hopefully it will get some attention quickly.

Title:
mounted samba share stops working for file access

Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu 12.10 - same problem when acessing SMB shares from two computers
same for shares both on Ubuntu 12.10 server, and a windows server.

  Reproduce;
it helps if you play a video/movie using vlc or mplayer from share. the
file should be open for hours. (use pause)
  - when unpaused, the file will play fine.
-no new big files on that share will open, small files may work.
unmounting + remounting the SMB share may fixe the problem, but other
processes may be affected:
VLC - while stuck with such samba problem, is impossible to kill, same for
smplayer
  sudo killall vlc -s KILL
  .. will not kill it.
and so unmounting the share takes 10 attempts..
