Second Dominik's post as not fixed. The hidden files are showing in Nautilus on 16.04 by default and when changed back do not stay like that. My thanks to him, his suggested fix via Firefox Save dialog worked for me - I have tried many of the older suggestions - including resetting nautilus

I don't see this as fixed in Ubuntu 16.04 as of today, I was experiencing this for the last few days. Opening a Save dialog in Firefox and pressing Ctrl-H fixed the issue. I don't much see what this has to do with file-roller; it's more an issue with with system open/save dialog window. -- You

I just realized that my description doesn't make it very clear what the real issue is: after changing the setting to show hidden files from archive manager, it's not possible to change this setting back from nautilus. Please read the thread I linked - there are lots of people coming up with
