Friday, after a reboot, I got mouse and keyboard freezed. I reboot
multiple time to analyse the problem. Google as a friend shows me that
some problems are reported and I learned a lot but no solution for me.

I find out that the problem occurs after 3 to 10 minutes of mouse and
keyboard inactivity the mouse and keyboard freezes. If I always working with
the mouse or the keyboard no freeze, still for hours. The problem is still
reproducible by mouse and keyboard inactivity. This I figured out:
  - Strg+Alt+Del helps but all work are lost
  - klicking application (multiple points) entering some character an klicking
application again helps some time
  - closing the lid and opening it after about 30 seconds helps, but requires
password.

  I changed in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf #Enable=true to Enable=true and
reboot. Login and wait till freeze, wait, close lid, and open lid.

I run journalctl -b >aalog.txt (I have it attached) and analysed it. I found
that every freeze time there is an error:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1868480] Re: gnome mouse (trackpad &trackpoint) and keyboard freezes [JS ERROR: Exception in callback for signal: StatusChanged: Error: value is out of range for Argument 'inte

2020-03-25 Thread Rainer
Hi, Ubuntu update solved the problem for me.
Today runs my weekly Ubuntu update. After the update I recognized that the
problem was gone. To verify it, I reboot (was not required by the todays
update) and tried to recreate the problem.

No chance after one hour of mouse and keyboard inactivity. Still no
mouse and keyboard freeze!!!

To show what changed I do cat /var/log/dpkg.log > aadpkglog.txt and
attach it.

Interpreting the error message I think this bug is still in Gnome-shell. The
signal value was changed by the ubuntu update and not in the gnome-shell code.
Gnome-shell can document an invalid value, but never should freeze mouse and
keyboard in those case That means the error can occur in future again if,
who are ever, deliver an unexpected value to gnome-shell.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1868480] Re: gnome mouse (trackpad &trackpoint) and keyboard freezes

2020-03-24 Thread Rainer
to #12 right this seems to be the error, but what is the error???

to #13 I had only bugs from Friday in /var/crash. Because of this I
cleared /var/crash before I reproduced the error. After the Error was
theare no files. Now I have one openoffice crash report in /var/crash,
and in deep in the meantime openoffice had been crashed. This is not our
problem.

to #14 & #15 here are there Errorreports call
ttps://errors.ubuntu.com/user/68f87173ba9ec943cc05026d43296fa4d2a45446770fd8b6bf5dcc264b5ba3be7a51ab0cc64df5adf06b176bffa1aa3a4e94b44ce8979e205de7365cef7774de

In this error report the newest entry is from 2020-03-03 program
nautilus and the newset entry with gnome ist from 2019-12-27. Remember
this error occurs first time in march 2020.

In particular, look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the
content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you
find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send
the links to us.

Title:
gnome mouse (trackpad &trackpoint) and keyboard freezes

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My Thinkpad ist working since years without this problem. Since last
Friday, after a reboot, I got mouse and keyboard freezed. I reboot
multiple time to analyse the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1868480] Re: gnome mouse (trackpad &trackpoint) and keyboard freezes

2020-03-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

Next please try this again:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

If that provides nothing new then please:

 1. Reproduce the issue again.

 2. Reboot and then immediately run:

journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

 3. Attach the file 'prevboot.txt' here.

Mär 22 15:19:41 BN591 gnome-shell[2978]: JS ERROR: Exception in callback for
signal: StatusChanged: Error: value is out of range for Argument 'interval'
(type guint32)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1868480] Re: gnome mouse (trackpad &trackpoint) and keyboard freezes

2020-03-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
At the same time, it is possible something crashing is causing freezes
so you might also want to follow these instructions:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1868480] Re: gnome mouse (trackpad &trackpoint) and keyboard freezes

2020-03-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please start by uninstalling all of these extensions:

'netmoni...@zdyb.tk', 'oldnetworkmanag...@webgyerek.net', 'battery-
remaining-t...@dadexix86.github.com', 'cpupo...@mko-sl.de',
'netsp...@hedayaty.gmail.com', 'extend-panel-menu@julio641742',
'favori...@cvine.org', 'windowiconl...@whise.com',
'windowl...@o2net.cl', 'window-list-...@vagonpop.gmail.com',
'activities-config@nls1729', 'ryanwh...@126.com',
'docker_status@gpouilloux', 'docker-extens...@ristola.fi', 'dock@gnome-
shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'dock-settings@lagrangian',
'gmailmessaget...@shuming0207.gmail.com', 'm...@hightao-mg.com',
'mail...@pulb.github.com', 'add-username-toppa...@brendaw.com', 'panel-
date-for...@keiii.github.com', 'touchpad-indicator@orangeshirt',
'toggle-touch...@martin.kopta.eu', 'disconnect-w...@kgshank.net',

indica...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'apps-menu@gnome-
shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'user-id-in-top-panel@fthx',
'workspaces-to-d...@passingthru67.gmail.com', 'drive-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com'

Since so many bugs are caused by extensions the first thing we look at
is whether a bug is due to extensions, so they all need to be removed.
Be sure to uninstall them and don't just disable them as a buggy
extension can still interfere with the shell.
