I see a lot of people who come from other communities (specifically CNCF) who are more familiar with the term "maintainer"[1] and are looking to map their existing understanding to our titles and roles. The actual responsibilities don't line up that cleanly for the committer/PMC titles on our side

As much as folks love to debate names ... this isn't a real problem. Some l People call PMC members simply "PMC" and while this might grate on some people, it's not a real problem. It does not actually cause any bad outcomes other than the annoyance of a few people. There is nothing to solve
