Hello Akhilesh,

mentors@ is the list for mentors only, not for GSoC contributors :)
I can recommend you to check this page: [1]

Then find the project you would like to participate in here: [2]
(you can filter by your favorite language :))

Additionally you can search for the "gsoc2024" label in JIRA [3] :)

Also we recently added a page in our community website with projects
that have "Good Frist Issues". You can see it here: [4]

It might help you to know where to start.

Please send any additional questions to the dev@community mailing-list
or better to the dev@ list of the particular Apache project you would
like to contribute :)

Weird reporter.a.o behavior

2023-04-04 Thread Maxim Solodovnik
Hello,

I'm observing weird reporter.a.o behavior:

main page [1] states
"Apache OpenMeetings" "Maxim Solodovnik (You!)" Wed Apr 12 2023
(Report is due in 8 days)

report editor (first screen) [2] states:
Reporting schedule: January, April, July, October
Next report date: Wed Apr 19 2023

report editor (last screen) [2] states:
Your project is not expected to report this month. You may save
drafts but you cannot publish yet.

And "Publish via Whimsy" is grey

something wrong :(

Can you please take a look? :))

Hello Rich,

we are using mentors@community.a.o ML for communications

I'll try to keep https://community.apache.org/gsoc.html page in
up-to-date state :)

I'll move all GSoC related pages (there should be 3-5 of them) to
subfolder (will try to do it before Monday)

And will update this thread :)

[jira] [Updated] (COMDEV-495) Code Insights for Apache StreamPipes

2023-02-27 Thread Maxim Solodovnik (Jira)

 [
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/COMDEV-495?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel
 ]

Maxim Solodovnik updated COMDEV-495:

Description:
h3. *Apache StreamPipes*
Apache StreamPipes (incubating) is a self-service (Industrial) IoT toolbox to
enable non-technical users to connect, analyze and explore IoT data streams.
StreamPipes offers several modules including StreamPipes Connect to easily
connect data from industrial IoT sources, the Pipeline Editor to quickly create
processing pipelines and several visualization modules for live and historic
data exploration. Under the hood, StreamPipes utilizes an event-driven
microservice paradigm of standalone, so-called analytics microservices making
the system easy to extend for individual needs.

h3. *Background*
StreamPipes has grown significantly throughout recent years. We were able to
introduce a lot of new features and attracted both users and contributors.
Putting the cherry on the cake, we were graduated as an Apache top level
project in December 2022. We will of course continue developing new features
and never rest to make StreamPipes even more amazing. Although, since we are
approaching with full stream towards our `1.0` release, we want to project also
to get more mature. Therefore, we want to address one of our Achilles' heels:
our test coverage.

Don't worry, this issue is not about implementing myriads of tests for our code
base. As a first step, we would like to make the status quo transparent. That
means we want to measure our code coverage consistently across the whole
codebase (Backend, UI, Python library) and report the coverage to
[codecov|https://about.codecov.io]. Furthermore, to benchmark ourselves and
motivate us to provide tests with every contributing, we would like to lock the
current test coverage as an lower threshold that we always want to achieve
(meaning in case we drop CI builds fail etc). With time we then can increase
the required coverage lever step to step.

More than monitoring our test coverage, we also want to invest in better and
more clean code. Therefore, we would like to adopt
[sonarcloud|https://www.sonarsource.com/products/sonarcloud/] for our
repository.

h3. *Tasks*
 - [ ] calculate test coverage for all main parts of the repo
 - [ ] send coverage to codeCov
 - [ ] determine coverage threshold and let CI fail if below
 - [ ] include sonarcloud in CI setup
 - [ ] include automatic coverage report in PR validation (see an example
[here|https://github.com/pydantic/pydantic/pull/648#issuecomment-509855300] )
-> optional
 - [ ] include automatic sonarcloud report in PR validation -> optional
 - [ ] what ever comes in your mind  further ideas are always welcome

h3. *❗Important Note❗*
Do not create any account in behalf of Apache StreamPipes in Sonarcloud or in
CodeCov or using the name of Apache StreamPipes for any account creation. Your
mentor will take care of it.

Hello Utkarsh Kumar,

mentors@ is the list for mentors only, not for GSoC contributors :)
I can recommend you to check this page: https://community.apache.org/gsoc.html

Then find the project you would like to participate in here:
https://projects.apache.org/projects.html?
language#Java

Additionally you can search for the "gsoc2023" label in JIRA [1] :)

Please send any additional questions to the dev@community mailing-list
or better to the dev@ list of the particular Apache project you would
like to contribute :)

> * importUnmanagedInstance: Import an unmanaged VM into CloudStack (this

> * unmanageVirtualMachine: Make CloudStack forget a VM but do not remove it
> on the hypervisor side
> The complexity on KVM should be parsing the existing XML domains into

> Description:
> The Import-Export functionality is only allowed for the Vmware hypervisor.
> The functionality is developed within a VM ingestion framework that allows
> the extension to other hypervisors. The Import-Export functionality consists
> on few APIs and the UI to interact with them:
> * listUnmanagedInstances: Lists unmanaged virtual machines (not existing in
> CloudStack but existing on the hypervisor side)
> * importUnmanagedInstance: Import an unmanaged VM into CloudStack (this
> implies populating the database with the corresponding data)
> * unmanageVirtualMachine: Make CloudStack forget a VM but do not remove it
> on the hypervisor side
> The complexity on KVM should be parsing the existing XML domains into
> different resources and map them in CloudStack to populate the database
> correctly.

As far as I understand you need stats per one particular OM DB

This would be amount of non-deleted users with type other than CONTACT
something like:

SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM om_user u
WHERE u.deleted = false AND u.type <> 'CONTACT'

Also web-service can be used:
https://openmeetings.apache.org/openmeetings-webservice/apidocs/org/apache/openmeetings/webservice/UserWebService.html#get(java.lang.String)

> - the number of users how online now -- no

this one is available in OM UI only
Admin->Connections

both available in UI and web-service
https://openmeetings.apache.org/openmeetings-webservice/apidocs/org/apache/openmeetings/webservice/RoomWebService.html#users(java.lang.String,java.lang.Long)

Yes this was clear
but you need to
 1) find a mentor in _existing_ ASF project
OR
 2) find enough people and start new ASF project (via
https://incubator.apache.org/)

In case you will choose option #2 I doubt it will be GSoC project

ASF is umbrella org, all real ideas should be supported by real ASF PMCs
So the first step would be to find valid project :)

This seems to be huge project.
Are you sure this is doable by 1 person in ~350 hours ?

Thanks for the clarifications

I believe it would be better for the PMC to use own JIRA
This way
- projects can benefit from their own custom fields/flows
- get notifications to the correct list

The fields are common for all ASF projects
But
Every project participating in GSoC might want to have them

Some ASF projects do not use JIRA. These projects uses COMDEV JIRA to file
GSoC ideas

Google Summer of Code 2022 Mentor Registration

2022-03-13 Thread Maxim Solodovnik
Dear PMCs,

I'm happy to announce that the ASF has made it onto the list of accepted
organizations for
Google Summer of Code 2022! [1,2]

It is now time for mentors to sign up, so please pass this email on to your
community and
podlings. If you aren’t already subscribed to ment...@community.apache.org
you should do so now else
you might miss important information.

Mentor signup requires two steps: mentor signup in Google's system [3] and
PMC acknowledgement.

If you want to mentor a project in this year's SoC you will have to

1. Be an Apache committer.
2. Request an acknowledgement from the PMC for which you want to mentor
projects. Use the below
template and *do not forget to copy ment...@community.apache.org*. We will
use the email adress you
indicate to send the invite to be a mentor for Apache.

PMCs, read carefully please.

We request that each mentor is acknowledged by a PMC member. This is to
ensure the mentor is in good
standing with the community. When you receive a request for
acknowledgement, please ACK it and cc
ment...@community.apache.org

Lastly, it is not yet too late to record your ideas in Jira (see my
previous emails for details).
GSoC participants will now begin to explore ideas so if you haven’t already
done so, record your ideas
immediately!

Cheers,

Max

mentor request email template:

to: private@.apache.org
cc: ment...@community.apache.org
subject: GSoC 2022 mentor request for

 PMC,

please acknowledge my request to become a mentor for Google Summer of Code
2022 projects for Apache
.

I would like to receive the mentor invite to

Well
In OM code we are using SPA approach
So we are using AJAX updates

For movable dialog box you need jquery-ui
You can find lots of examples at

http://www.7thweb.net/wicket-jquery-ui/

Sorry if I spammed you. Another thing is to know what is the usage or

No sure I understood the question :(
Do you need
- total number of registered users
- the number of users how online now
- the number of users in particular room
?

Re: Regarding open source contribution and GSoC 2022

2022-02-15 Thread Maxim Solodovnik
Hello Siya,

mentors@ is the list for mentors only, not for GSoC contributors :)
I can recommend you to check this page:
https://community.apache.org/gsoc.html

Then find the project you would like to participate in here:
https://projects.apache.org/projects.html?
language#Java

Additionally you can search for the "gsoc2022" label in JIRA [1] :)

Please send any additional questions to the dev@community mailing-list
or better to the dev@ list of the particular Apache project you would like
to contribute :)

Unfortunately I have not much free time right now (2 small kids 24/7)
I believe the main reason emails go to mentors@ : people are looking
for mentors :)
(same thing happens with dev@ list: users will write to dev@ to
contact developers )

I'm not sure how this can be improved :(

p.s. as Melissa use to say: I miss your smiley face :) Hope to see you
at one of ApacheCon one day :)

Hello Gunesh,

mentors@ is the list for mentors, not for students :)
I can recommend you to check this page: https://community.apache.org/gsoc.html

Then find the project you would like to participate in here:
https://projects.apache.org/projects.html?
language#Java

Additionally you can search for the GSOC label in JIRA [1] :)

Please send any additional questions to the dev@community mailing-list
or better to the dev@ list of the particular Apache project you would
like to contribute :)
