Joe, I´m Luis from Costa Rica too (Tibas) and i am having serious problems with openoffice. The point is that about 2 months ago i tried to install a new version of OpenOffice (3.2 I guess) and from that day I couldn´t work properly with this software. This is the message i got from that day:
