The Travel Assistance Committee (TAC) are pleased to announce that
travel assistance applications for Community over Code NA 2024 are now
open!

We will be supporting Community over Code NA, Denver Colorado in
October 7th to the 10th 2024.

TAC exists to help those that would like to attend Community over Code
events, but are unable to do so for financial reasons. For more info
on this years applications and qualifying criteria, please visit the
TAC website at < https://tac.apache.org/ >. Applications are already
open on https://tac-apply.apache.org/, so don't delay!

The Apache Travel Assistance Committee will only be accepting
applications from those people that are able to attend the full event.

Important: Applications close on Monday 6th May, 2024.

Applicants have until the the closing date above to submit their
applications (which should contain as much supporting material as
required to efficiently and accurately process their request), this

people to the following events:

Nightly Builds

Hi All,

The nightly builds at https://ci2.apache.org/#/builders/58 are using up
much unnecessary
disk space on the nightlies.apache.org server.

Currently Openoffice alone is using more than 1TB - all due to these
nightly builds.
Over 600GB are the linux64 snapshots and the rest are the linsnap* ones.

Many many of these snapshots are identical to previous ones, but because
the date of the build is included then they are just repeated each day.
Even if no commits for weeks there is multi GB tars and debs being uploaded
each day.

This seems a waste.

Not only this, but no snapshots are being cleaned up, we have snapshots
dating back nearly a year just sitting there.

Lets clean this up and be smarter going forwards.

I would like to see these nightlies changed :-

1. Change to run weekly instead of daily.
2. Instead of, or in addition to 1, build and upload by commit trigger.
3. Clean up snapshots older than 1 month.

Combine VMs

Hello AOO folks

Infra has taken a look at the usage of your 3 VMS and believe that
they could all be combined into a single VM.

Technically, we can see no reason why this could not be done, and
it may even simplify things, the sysadmin folks all needing only one
VM to access for all services.

So, we would like to combine Forums, Wiki and Translate onto the
same machine that has enough capacity for all.

Please discuss, and let us know your thoughts, so that we may then
alter the migration plan of the current VMs onto one.

Could someone let me know what the preferred package is?

We do have VS Community Edition, unsure if that is suitable

gawk has a non standard name:

$ ls -al /usr/bin | grep awk

Buildbot config - svn or git?

Hi All,

With the new Buildbot 3.x we are using, we also added the ability to host
project config files from either an SVN [1] location or GIT [2] . So now
you have a choice. Currently your modified openoffice.py config lives in
SVN, but I can easily move it to GIT - the choice is yours!

Hi All.

Ok so I am making progress.

The nightly x64 build is running fine. as are the rat builds.
I'll get the 41 branch added today - should we also do a 42 branch build?

As for the win10 builds I am working on those now.

I am at a stage in the win10 build where it wants dlls and exe files
(listed below) from an
'external' directory located on the machine but outside of the build
itself. These get copied in
during a build step.

These files have been previously uploaded manually to the buildbot
node/agent. I'd like to stop that
practice; and change the build so that it pulls them in from a repository
instead. We can create a new
gitr repo called openoffice-externals and put them in there. This method
has the added advantage that
the project can then manage these externals themselves,
adding/updating/deleting/whatever from the
repo and the build will pull those in each time.

Thoughts? My only query really was one of whether or not these libraries
should not be available to the
public, (I don't see why) in which case I would have to rethink this
strategy. If I can get replies ASAP on
this please so that I can continue to migrate the builds.

As the current Buildbots arent really working, nodes offline etc, I thought
this would be the best time to migrate your builds over to our newer
replacement
buildbot 3.2 over at ci2.apache.org .

I'll do my best to get them all running as passing as best they can, and
will update this thread with any questions or messages.

My first query is seeing as we have no more i386 or FreeBSD agents/nodes,
I'll probably just go ahead and remove those from the new config file.

https://ci.apache.org is currently on version 0.8 and is to be turned off
soon.
https://ci2.apache.org is version 3.2 and is the direct replacement.

If you project has Buildbot jobs they are listed here:

Infra will perform the migration for you over the next 2 weeks. Starting
Monday.

Your $project.conf code will be updated to be compatible with Buildbot 3.2
(from 0.8)

Unless you state otherwise - your config will be moved to a new SVN [1] or
GIT [2] area
depending on whether you primarily use SVN or GIT.

Hi ,

For over a year our Confluence Wiki has been LDAP enabled, meaning your
login is now your ASF username and your ASF password,
your ASF username is joesch and your ASF password is what you use to commit
code in svn and.or git. Should you not remember
your ASF (LDAP) password, then you can reset it at
https://id.apache.org/reset/enter

(There is nothing for you to 'set up' , your account is already there, you
just need to login with the correct credentials)

Hi George, you have just described almost perfectly Infras replacement for
the CMS!
Using Pelican and GHFM and Buildbot, you only need to 'edit' a page in
Github and that
commit will trigger a site rebuild and automatic publish of the site. It is
still in testing but
almost ready for use. I'll post more details and a docs link when its ready
for wider testing.

of developers have been trying it so far.

Makes sense, but please note that changing builder names loses all history for 
a build as it 
starts again from build number 0. So if doing it, make sure its one to stick 
around for a while.

Just wanted to make you aware of the change to 3 of your buildbot builds so have
forwarded you the commit diff below.

Basically, 3 of your long running builds tat are taking 9 or 10 hours to 
complete, are spending 
6 or 7 hours of that time uploading tar.gz files and zips as snapshot builds. 
However , they are 
then all being deleted the very next day and built and uploaded all over again.

This is not great use of our hardware and bandwidth. Therefore I have inserted 
'onlyIfChanged=True’
into those 3 builds so they will only build (and upload and delete) when there 
has been a change in the 
code since the last build. This makes much more sense.

Buildbot upgrades broken ? (was: Re: Forums and Wiki VM Migrations)

The Operating Systems were upgraded on some Buildbot VMS whilst others were 
replaced altogether. Mostly, I see this as the OpenOffice project need to keep 
up to speed with Operating Systems, associated software packages for those 
systems and ensure that the OpenOffice software can run on ever evolving 
systems. Windows 7 as an example was EOL years ago and security updates no 
longer available. Ubuntu 12.04 the same thing. You are complaining we replaced 
5 year old and 10 year old Operating systems and that this broke your builds. 

Builds break, upgrades of Operating Systems and their underlying software 
packages happen. Our build systems will always be evolving so projects must 
learn to cope with this and ensure their builds change with it.

I would like to have all the OpenOffice builds fixed. So, please open INFRA 
tickets for all broken builds where you see that INFRA needs to do something - 
install software etc. But sitting around doing nothing is not going
to get them fixed.

Right. I have been involved in the initial setup and upgrades of both services 
so we should be good.

Forums and Wiki VM Migrations

Hi All,

The OpenOffice forums - https://forum.openoffice.org 
 

and 

The OpenOffice wiki - https://wiki.openoffice.org 
 

are both housed on old VMware VMS which are in turn hosted on 
old hardware. 

We need to migrate these services over to new fully puppetized VMs.

I imagine that identifying all the nuts and bolts of these services will take a 
bit of time to go through, and to puppetize everything that we can.

I propose that someone here might like to create a Confluence wiki page for 
each service where everyone can follow along. (Not strictly necessary as this 
is mostly a one time operation) 
I will be here on list and also liaising through the INFRA Jira tickets [1][2].

A volunteer or two to assist with communication between Infra and the 
Openoffice communities (such as those using and managing the Forums - 
particularly since some of those dont follow the mailing lists or Jira.) would 
be nice.

A volunteer or two who wants to be involved in the actual migration process 
would also be nice so that we have folks here with some working knowledge 
by the end of the process.

I aim to start the process of both migrations simultaneously but I do expect 
differing finishing lines. My current expectations are that we could be done 
between 1 and 2 months.

Any queries please reply to the dev list or the relevant INFRA jira tickets.

Fact finding on the hardware requirements and disk configurations are the 
first step in the process and I am ready to begin that step now - who wants 
to join in ?

Myself and Daniel ‘pono’ will be the main Infra peeps taking this on.

Thanks Jim thats much better, open, new,close, database all work fine now.

Cant find anything else wrong at the moment with the suite from initial looking 
around. I’d need specific bugs to check for anything else.

I am using OS Siera 10.12.4

I installed Jims version en-US

Creating new database instance fine.
Saving it fine
Closing down the database or closing down the database window or closing down 
Openoffice does not work.
Literally nothing happens.

I ended up force quitting the program.

No other tests done at this point, anything else needing to be tested?

Windows 7 Buildbot migrations to Windows 10

Hi All,

Apologies for the short notice.

Buildbot machine known as ‘win7; will be turned off today and all builds will 
be migrated to a new 
‘win10’ box instead. We will make the appropriate config changes to your 
project.conf files in svn 
and perform an initial post move build. They are likely to fail. Please do 
create tickets for any 
dependencies that will need to be installed. We will work with you all to 
return you builds to passing 
again.

Instead of removing the .svn dirs/files with a script, use the built in  'svn 
export' which exports the 
checkout without all the .svn dirs/files.

How long has it been broken?
Has infra been asked to fix it?

Github mirrors do get stuck and go stale on occasion, and an Infra Jira to
ask
them to unstick it on those occasions should work.

(If not then we ask to have it removed)

Hi Patricia,

I see you have 2 accounts in cwiki, and you just mentioned them
both :)

You had enough perms in your "p...@apache.org" account but 
you had zero permissions in your "pats" account.

I assume therefore you have been logging in under "pats" and have 
updated that account with appropriate permissions.

Please try again.

In order to avoid confusion in the future can I suggest we delete or deactivate
the other account ? (p...@apache.org) which you haven’t logged into since 
June 2013.

Buildbot Notifications

Hi All,

The commits list shows 142 commits so far this month - 98 of which are buildbot 
pass/fail notices. (69%)
Last month saw 415 commits - 205 of which were buildbot pass/fail notices. (49%)

That’s way too much noise I feel.

99% of the buildbot notices are repeats of the previous notice - i.e. 
pass,pass,pass,pass,fail etc.

I’m going to reduce this noise by only sending ‘change’ notifications - i.e. 
pass -> fail or fail -> pass

I have replaced the 410 RAT build with a 413 build.

license header errors so far.

Now currently we have no 413 builds other than the RAT report.

What we do have is two (imho) useless ‘snapshot’ builds (based on 
openoffice/tags/SNAPSHOT
- Which hasn’t had a commit in 10 months and never will have because its a 
‘tag’.

So I’ll remove those builds and replace them with 413 branch builds.

I really don’t get that reasoning. I’d like examples to understand why people 
downstream would be using a branch in the first place.
If anything, I’d half expect downstream to depend on the ‘Tag’ that a release 
was based on , not the branch (that has since changed.)

Tags seem to be labelled correctly, branches should follow suit. But I’ll leave 
it to you guys.

Status of ASF Ubuntu Buildbots

Hi All,

I’ve been working on creating replacement VMs for the deprecated Tethys (10.04 
64bit) , bb-vm2 (12.04 32bit) and bb-vm3 (12.04 32bit).
This work is now complete. 3 VMs replaced with 2 x 14.04 LTS VMs. (As an aside 
there is a 16.04 LTS buildbot available if you want to
do tests on it)

3 builds were moved from Tethys to bb_slave4_ubuntu - the linux64 nightly build 
and the two RAT builds (trunk and aoo410 testing)
All 3 builds are successful currently.

The linux32-nightly and linux32-snapshot builds have been moved from bb-vm2 and 
bb-vm3 to bb_slave5_ubuntu - initial builds are
still being performed.

I reduced the frequency of some builds - I mean why spend 9 hours building and 
uploading language packs every single day, there is 
no need - especially from the aoo410 branch thats seen like 2 commits in 9 
months!

the openoffice.conf file has been updated. Feel free to start tweaking the 
linux32 builds after the initial builds have completed in a day or so.

RAT Build on AOO410 branch

Hi All,

Apologies for the initial build failures, but we now have a successful RAT 
build on the AOO410 branch
in addition to the normal RAT build on trunk.

And yes we have a clean RAT pass! (as expected I guess, but nice to know.)

This RAT report will run and update on every commit to that branch.

HI All,

So two issues with the last patch:

1. I missed two pref file for excluding

2. Four files are treated as binaries (.project and .classpath) and so the diff 
never showed.

I’ve forced the diff in those files so should be good now.

I’ll talk about why those .project and .classpath have mime-types set in the 
first place in another
thread.

Before, Andrew Rist had been using wget to scrape results of builds into a nice 
table layout.
However, since I moved the Buildbot Master to a Cloud provider VM, it is behind 
a NAT
arrangement that currently won’t allow wget to reach ci.apache.org 
<http://ci.apache.org/> (from within that network).
This caused the cron job that creates the page hourly to take hours to run and 
eventually fail,
this in effect also caused the page to never render correctly or fully.

So I have removed all the page scraping, and the table, replacing them instead 
with links
to an open office specific build results page. 
(s.apache.org/openoffice-builders <http://s.apache.org/openoffice-builders>)

The page now renders correctly in under a second and provides links to all the 
recently built
install packages.

There is still more work to do :-

The ‘open office-linux-64-rat’ fails , I know the issue with this and am 
working on it,

Hi Again,

So now we have another error relating to coinmp this time - needs to be rebuilt.

What is the process for performing the rebuild?

I have rebuilt the coinmp port at the OS level but it made no difference so I’m
assuming it needs to be done a different way - or perhaps due to my upgrading
the Operating System from 10.0 to 10.1 and upgrading all packages and ports
that the config files need changing ?

I’ve done quite a few builds today and performed an OS upgrade so everything
is bang upto date as far as FreeBSD is concerned so now Im stuck and need
some advice on how to continue.

Right, so the fbsd build box has been on FreeBSD 10 for a while now.
It was on FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE.

Clang on this version was 3.3

I have just now upgraded to FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE and upgraded all
packages.

The Mac Mini for OpenOffice (slavename aoo_mac-mini) is now online.

I installed the Buildbot slave software, configured the slave and the master and

Use the slave name ‘aoo_mac-mini’ when configuring the Buildbot Build.

I have NOT installed any dependent software that the build(s) may require,
Andrew and Ariel currently have SSH access to the box. Let me know if

Hi All,

So this build was ‘flapping’, i.e. passing/failing nearly every other build.

This was mainly due to the use of the method=‘copy’ way of updating the source 
tree.

The SVN step performs two things when in ‘copy’ mode, it does a checkout to a 
‘source’
directory and then does a copy from there to the ‘build’ directory. The first 
has a default
timeout of 1200 whilst the latter has a (currently) unconfigurable timeout of 
120.
It is the latter 120 timeout during copy that makes the build fail, about 50% 
of the time it
hits the timeout limit before the copy is complete and so the build fails.

I have changed from using "mode=‘full', method=‘copy’” to using 
"mode=‘incremental’”
which basically means use ‘svn update’ directly on the build directory. I 
believe this will
stabilise this particular build. (I can’t remember why mode=copy was used 
originally.)

All the other builds also still use mode=copy but I haven’t spotted a failing 
pattern with
those so far because of it.

Hi All,

Last build for this was way back in October last year:

http://ci.apache.org/builders/openoffice-linux32-snapshot/builds/19 


and failed due to disconnecting with the master, the slave itself has been 
turned
off for a while.

I’ve re-enabled the slave VM and started a new build.

It will take several hours to complete so I’ll report back when thats complete.

shows 30 files that need attention in getting valid license headers adding.

A quick look shows to me that we should probably insert ASF license Headers
in all of those files.

If nobody gets to it before me I’ll provide a patch to that effect.

So the build got further, both configure and buildstrap passed.

configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --disable-mozilla
head: /etc/*-release: No such file or directory
checking which cppunit to use... configure: WARNING: not using cppunit
configure: error: hunspell headers not found.

First thing I’ll do is remove the —disable-mozilla and —with-system-hunspell 
options and
performa  a manual build , see if it gets any further.

I’d like to know however if these are ‘required’ options and if so what is 
needed in order to
stop those errors with these options.
