Well no, because I don't use mod_tile, but that is a good idea, instead of
blocking completly the ability to download, reducing/limiting the hit rate

I'm curious if anyone has ever attempted to convert the massive OSM Mapnik
stylesheet to one of the CSS-like languages such as Cascadenik or Carto. Is
it even possible? Maybe some features used are not implemented by either of
these preprocessors...

I had a rough stab at it the other year for a very very early development

Thanks for all the info. It seems Cascadenik has been superseded by Carto,
at least that's my impression, as Cascadenik hasn't been touched since last
year, and Carto is inspired by Cascadenik but has seen more recent and
active development. It would be interesting to see a comparison between

I have been experimenting with Carto for OSM (outside of tilemill because I
couldn't get the tilemill postgresql datasource working when I tried it).
I picked Carto over Cascadenik for the same reason - that it seems to be
developing actively, and is reported to be significantly
Some work has also been done for converting Mapnik XML automatically into

Great! Thank you very much Dirk!
Don't worry we won't stop. The internships of the people translating
