This looks great Donald, and I'm so glad you accepted the role of Chair.
This part of the Special Order will establish the project description text

Donald - please think about it.
It was suggested privately to me that I stay on from mentoring as PMC. If
you'll have me, I would be glad to help the new TLP as/if needed.

Some TLPs decide to rotate the Chair role on a yearly basis. Some keep them for
as long as the Chair is willing. You should think about what kind of convention
for Chair role ownership you'd like to see (if even you have a preference at
this point).
I have been Chair of two projects at one

Really glad to see this discussion started, because I think your podling is
nearing graduation. The most important determination of that is taking the
initiative to propose it.
I looked over the spreadsheet and have only this comment: You'll gain from
having the incubator picking over your binary

How you manage source control is pretty much up to you. The key is to clearly
tag commits that correspond to releases and only advertise those and their
binary and/or source artifacts as official project releases. I think that will
cover it.

This sounds like hotspotting. Ideally the workload over the keyspace can be
better distributed, which is another avenue of attack - partitioning, keying
strategy.

I'm pretty sure some PIO folks are going to be in town for Strata, and
hopefully will be talking up PIO at the Spark meetup. However there is
intersection with another Apache community holding an event at the same
time: Google and Bloomberg are co-hosting the Apache HBase community event on

Interesting idea to try separate repos for landing to-be-donated templates. On
GitHub repositories are cheap and, though not necessarily at this moment at
Apache, easy to provision. If you think separate repo and lifecycle is the best
way to manage templates then we PPMC plus mentors should
First, Pat provides a good example of how to walk the line between Apache and
commercial concerns in his response. Make a distinction between the two.
Clearly delineate responsibilities. Refer all discussion related to the non
Apache concern to the appropriate venue.
