RE: VCL CAS SSO

2018-03-12 Thread Joseph Fischetti
Josh,
I actually gave that presentation about 2 weeks ago! Funny that it showed up.

I wouldn't think CAS support would pose that big of a problem, it should be
'easy enough' to integrate phpCAS into the authentication flow... The
Shibboleth integration works great for us, but considering I have all the
different pieces at my disposal, I would be happy to look into it. Just don't
put a timeframe on it!

Hi Junaid,

Thanks for your interest in adding CAS authentication support!

I just found this presentation Joe Fischetti did about a year ago:

https://nercomp.org/uploadFiles/2E62700AD.filename.Marist-SSO_IDMV2.pdf

I only skimmed it and didn't see anything about VCL specifically, but Joe is
one of the VCL admins at Marist. So, he may be able to provide some insight.

I also just created a JIRA issue last week to track some changes I started
working on to make authentication more modular. I hope to have a good chunk
committed within the next few weeks. The basic idea is to make each
authentication method a class built on a base class. I added comments to the
JIRA issue to describe what I have come up with so far.

Andy,
All good points.

I know I'm not part of the design team, but if it's low enough priority and
nobody else is into working on it, I'll work on the things you noted and submit
as patches.

Agreed that there's little concern for code injection, admins have admin access
already, and there is already a method for escaping the SQL query.

I can use a check for the existence of an html opening tag to dictate whether
or not an email is sent as html. How high of a priority is user preference?
I've noticed that many of the emails that I'm subscribed to have been getting
away from that option in the last few years anyway.

As for wysiwyg, does dojo have a provision for it? I'm not extremely familiar
with everything that it provides.

It's generally not helpful to dump pages and pages of logs hoping for
assistance. Furthermore, this really belongs in the user mailing list.

That said, it looks like your management node is trying to capture an image of
itself. At some point while adding computers, you specified a guest machine
with 127.0.0.1. That's no good.

What does your installation look like? Are all 3 vcl components on the same
server? And what provisioning method are you using?

I have working changes, if it's possible to submit them to someone.

> The backend code sends various messages to users. Examples:
> * Email when reservation is ready
> * Email when image capture is complete or delayed
> * Terminal notification when a Linux reservation is about to timeout
> All of the messages are hard-coded in the backend code. It would be an
> improvement to allow these messages to be customized without having to alter

> Proposed solution:
> A database table named *usermessage* would be added to the schema. It would,

> * id
> * key
> * affiliationid
> * deliverymethod
> * subject
> * message
> The *id* field is not absolutely necessary but keeps with the structure of
> most other tables in the schema.
> The *key* field would be a unique identifier string which is more convenient
> to use than a simple integer. For example, _reservationready_ could

> The backend code could call something like {code}my ($subject, $message) =
> get_user_message('reservationready', $user_affiliation_id);{code}

> a message exists specific to their affiliation.
> The *deliverymethod* field would be used to allow email messages, IM
> messages, and other types of messages to use different text. There would be

> retrieve:
> {code}my ($subject, $message) = get_user_message('reservationready',
> $user_affiliation_id, 'sms');{code}
> The backend code and database are fairly straightforward to implement. A web

> There needs to be a mechanism to specify variables in the subject and message

Front end, utils.php at line 3426: This line strips out html tags from an
input. It's called in processInputVar.

processInputVar is called from AJsaveMessages, siteconfig.php line 2928.

Could create a new function: processMessageBody which doesn't.

[jira] [Created] (VCL-1041) Ccustomer facing email notifications are ugly

2017-05-11 Thread Joseph Fischetti (JIRA)
Joseph Fischetti created VCL-1041:
-

Summary: Ccustomer facing email notifications are ugly
 Key: VCL-1041
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/VCL-1041
 Project: VCL
  Issue Type: Improvement
Components: vcld (backend), web gui (frontend)
Affects Versions: 2.5
 Environment: All
Reporter: Joseph Fischetti
Priority: Minor
 Fix For: 2.5

By default, emails sent from the management mode don't have any special
formatting. To an end-user, they look more like an unrefined system message
than official communication.
