The release artefacts we are voting on are available here:

There, you will find a tarball, a GPG signature, and SHA256/SHA512

Joan, if the tarball passes on Friday 21st, you could prepare the binaries then

already travelling on Friday :)

I'll be out of town Thu-Tue, with travel on those outside days, so it
doesn't help me much on the binaries. The bintray uploads are currently
especially onerous, it's partially scripted in couchdb-pkg (and
similarly for couchdb-docker) but you need authorized API keys.

Do we want to wait for these to build an RC2 and test that?

If so, that would change our schedule as follows:

Tue Feb 18 - build new RC and start a vote
Fri Feb 21 - earliest the new RC could pass the vote (min. 72 hours)
Mon Feb 24 - push the source tarball
Tue Feb 25 - release and announce

Note that Tue Feb 25 is a travel day for me, so the binaries would
appear no earlier than that evening. We could do the same delay as I'd proposed
this week if desired; push the tarball on Tue Feb 25 and announce on Wed Feb 26.

FYI I am away from Feb 20-25.

Our typical policy is to release on Tuesdays for widest publicity. As Monday is
a public holiday in Canada, I suggest we push things out one day. That'd put us
on the following schedule, since we must wait 24 hours for the Apache mirrors
to catch up:
Tue Feb 18 - Push apache-couchdb-3.0.0.tar.gz* to dist.apache.org
- Push Mac/Win binaries wherever they are going
- Push binary packages to bintray.org
- Test and merge 3.0.0 Docker PR
- Push new Docker image to apache/couchdb
Wed Feb 19 - Update couchdb.apache.org website
- Announce widely (twitter, blog, announce@a.o, etc.)
- Open downstream Docker PR for top-level couchdb image

Also huge shout-out to Joan in recognition of the significant amount of time
which you've put in here not just for this release but also the huge CI
refactoring over the last months. It's incredibly incredible!

I do get a build failure on FreeBSD 13.0-CURRENT aarch64 (armv8) for couchjs.
Only SM60 is available on arm-flavoured FreeBSD so I had high hopes :-(

yet have which *might* help

Revision:522842

Add simple patch to fix undefined symbol problems when trying to build
gjs with this spidermonkey version.

Given that I would be the only user for this release on this combo, let's not
block it. But if somebody has suggestions on what to do, I'm all ears, and I'll
try with these patches over the weekend.

if you edit the checksum file and add the filename, the --check option
works, or you run without --check and compare the hashes manually.

Our typical policy is to release on Tuesdays for widest publicity. As
Monday is a public holiday in Canada, I suggest we push things out one
day. That'd put us on the following schedule, since we must wait 24 hours
for the Apache mirrors to catch up:

 Tue Feb 18 - Push apache-couchdb-3.0.0.tar.gz* to dist.apache.org
- Push Mac/Win binaries wherever they are going
- Push binary packages to bintray.org
- Test and merge 3.0.0 Docker PR
- Push new Docker image to apache/couchdb

 Wed Feb 19 - Update couchdb.apache.org website
- Announce widely (twitter, blog, announce@a.o, etc.)
- Open downstream Docker PR for top-level couchdb image

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache CouchDB 3.0.0 (-rc1)

2020-02-13 Thread Joan Touzet

With this vote, we are now at 3 +1 PMC votes - a minimum for releasing.

Everyone - please keep testing and submitting your experience. It'd be
nice if someone could double check the GPG signing and checksums as
well. If we need to stop the release, we will.

Our typical policy is to release on Tuesdays for widest publicity. As
Monday is a public holiday in Canada, I suggest we push things out one
day. That'd put us on the following schedule, since we must wait 24
hours for the Apache mirrors to catch up:

Tue Feb 18 - Push apache-couchdb-3.0.0.tar.gz* to dist.apache.org
   - Push Mac/Win binaries wherever they are going
   - Push binary packages to bintray.org
   - Test and merge 3.0.0 Docker PR
   - Push new Docker image to apache/couchdb

Wed Feb 19 - Update couchdb.apache.org website
   - Announce widely (twitter, blog, announce@a.o, etc.)
   - Open downstream Docker PR for top-level couchdb image

Any objections?

+1 make check passing on Centos 7, tested both amd64 and ppc64le. I'm going

One thing I noticed is that the Unix install instructions look outdated

sure what the supported options are now.

The Windows installer improvements are now live at the same URL below,
the installer is called apache-couchdb-3.0.0.1.msi.

https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__dist.apache.org_repos_dist_dev_couchdb_binary_win_3.0.0_rc.1_&d=DwIFaQ&c=jf_iaSHvJObTbx-siA1ZOg&r=PKZ65oA9tV05sXjYYyZUJf_d-ASaaLXiLw-gQdWPDsQ&m=FcAonLbpr6gBz07tL5QKB6plV8twOPB93ni1bguSynA&s=iwArBpg3xT7NWJYzy62CKrqFfk78iF2sYpN4ZkPFqZs&e=

LOTS of improvements:

   * Prompts for an admin user/password as CouchDB 3.0 requires
 * Will not overwrite existing credentials if in place
   * No longer remove user-modified config files, closing
 apache/couchdb#1989
 * Also will not overwrite them on install, naturally :)
   * Checkbox to disable installation of the Windows service
   * Silent install support for all the above
   * Friendly link to the online release notes in the exit dialog
   * Higher resolution icon for HiDPI (500x500)

The details are here:

https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_apache_couchdb-2Dglazier_pull_12&d=DwIFaQ&c=jf_iaSHvJObTbx-siA1ZOg&r=PKZ65oA9tV05sXjYYyZUJf_d-ASaaLXiLw-gQdWPDsQ&m=FcAonLbpr6gBz07tL5QKB6plV8twOPB93ni1bguSynA&s=NksMQCWeGZAnFS61V-Cd8-lLDcnunoL_7zpX8YGMmZU&e=

The build runs fine on Windows, obviously, and `make check` passes
entirely, so this is my official +1 on the RC.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache CouchDB 3.0.0 (-rc1)

2020-02-12 Thread Joan Touzet
The Windows installer improvements are now live at the same URL below,
the installer is called apache-couchdb-3.0.0.1.msi.

https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/couchdb/binary/win/3.0.0/rc.1/

LOTS of improvements:

  * Prompts for an admin user/password as CouchDB 3.0 requires
* Will not overwrite existing credentials if in place
  * No longer remove user-modified config files, closing
apache/couchdb#1989
* Also will not overwrite them on install, naturally :)
  * Checkbox to disable installation of the Windows service
  * Silent install support for all the above
  * Friendly link to the online release notes in the exit dialog
  * Higher resolution icon for HiDPI (500x500)

The details are here:

  https://github.com/apache/couchdb-glazier/pull/12

The build runs fine on Windows, obviously, and `make check` passes
entirely, so this is my official +1 on the RC.

There, you will find a tarball, a GPG signature, and SHA256/SHA512

Please follow the test procedure here:

Please remember that "RC1" is an annotation. If the vote passes,

MacOSx 10.15.3 with spidermonkey 60

I had couchdb_update_conflicts_test fail for me with make check. But it
passes on it's own. All js, elixir and other eunit tests pass.

Excellent results with the Mac binary both as a fresh installation and on
top of a CouchDB 2 installation.
Both tests on Mojave and not on Catalina.

Also, can I get clarification... is it an improved llama, or a new llama?

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache CouchDB 3.0.0 (-rc1)

2020-02-10 Thread Joan Touzet

And here are the Linux binaries for various distros and platforms:

  https://repo-nightly.couchdb.org/3.0.x/

If we have to cut another RC, these will automatically be re-generated.

As a reminder, repo-nightly.couchdb.org is *only* for members of the
immediate CouchDB development community. Do not share this link
off-list, and especially not with Twitter, Facebook, or on other social
media.

FYI, these were delayed because of a frequently failing test case:

  https://github.com/apache/couchdb/issues/2528

and because the Hypothesis version bump broke builds on Ubuntu Xenial,
due to too old of a Python 3 (we apparently now require >= 3.5.3.)
