thanks for your great support and your nice words, that is truly
appreciated!

I'd like to especially thank John for his calm, wise and lovely way to
lead the marketing project. It will be hard to follow in his footsteps,
and I hope we can keep him as co-lead. He has done a fantastic job for
the marketing project, and OOo wouldn't be where it is now without him.

The next year will be an interesting and challenging one, and I hope we
all will work together as a community to achieve our goals. I don't plan
major changes nor a revolution ;) in the marketing, but plan to follow
proven paths and improve things we need to improve -- this is where we
all need to work together. The marketing project is not only driven by
the leads, but by everyone involved.

Looking forward to working with you in 2010 (and beyond ;)

We have now reached the magic year 2010, and I feel it is time for the MP

As we're entering a busy period (3.2 to launch, OOoCon 2011 to award,
MS-Office 2010 to compete with..) I have offered to stay on as co-Lead
until Florian finds co-Lead(s) to help him.

OOo's procedures state: "Transitioning from one Project Lead to another is
almost always a graceful and smooth affair. The Project Lead or leads are

So, I would ask you all to confirm whether you are happy to endorse this

This is Katsuya Kobayashi, make a short introduction. I mainly

John,
Thanks for your long and important tasks to make a growth of our
OpenOffice.org Marketing. I am glad to support us as co-Lead in this
important year.

Florian,
At the start time, It's a good way to discuss each other our
marketing members at some kind of the conference.
I feel we need a simple and strong message with our all community
members like as "Community Marketing", I had talk at Orvieto.
And I hope to make a next Strategic Marketing Plan with our Marketing
project members, OASIS TC members, and also Oracle, Sun, and Major
Vendors in this year earlier to kick-off the next stage, it may at the

Darn it, it seems like that was only yesterday. I think it's indicative of
Johns tenure that the stature of the marketing project has risen to the point
it is today.

I look back on the SMP, the "Why" initiative, the test drive, the PRWeb award
and a myriad of other moments over the last 5 years and have to say "Bloody
well done!"

2010-01-02 Thread Italo Vignoli
Florian is definitely the best choice if John wants to step aside from
his role, but we still need his enthusiasm and experience as co-lead.
The next decade is going to be key for OOo and the open source
movement at large, if we want to increase and strengthen our market
presence. We are in a very good position, especially in Europe, but
Microsoft will be more aggressive with the decrease of their market
share (now officially under 80%).

Happy New Year, John.

If you can not be talked in to staying on I will gladly support Florian

Subject: [marketing] Proposed change of Marketing Project Lead

Those of you with long memories may remember that Jacqueline asked me to
become co-lead of the Marketing Project in April 2004. One of my first tasks
was to compile a strategy for the MP, which was published at OOoCon
2004 as "The OpenOffice.org Strategic Marketing Plan 2005-2010". I then
became Lead in May 2006, with the SMP as my bible.

We have now reached the magic year 2010, and I feel it is time for the MP to
benefit from fresh leadership. Since June 2007 I have had tremendous support
from Florian as my co-Lead, and I would like to recommend him to you as the
right person to lead the MP from 2010 onwards.

As we're entering a busy period (3.2 to launch, OOoCon 2011 to award,
MS-Office 2010 to compete with..) I have offered to stay on as co-Lead until
Florian finds co-Lead(s) to help him.

OOo's procedures state: "Transitioning from one Project Lead to another is
almost always a graceful and smooth affair. The Project Lead or leads are
encouraged to nominate their successors, who must be members of the project,
and hold a plebiscite on the primary public mail list."

So, I would ask you all to confirm whether you are happy to endorse this
change of Lead, and if so, please welcome Florian and give him your support
as he takes up this challenging position.

[marketing] Proposed change of Marketing Project Lead

2010-01-01 Thread John McCreesh
Those of you with long memories may remember that Jacqueline asked me to
become co-lead of the Marketing Project in April 2004. One of my first
tasks was to compile a strategy for the MP, which was published at OOoCon
2004 as "The OpenOffice.org Strategic Marketing Plan 2005-2010". I then
became Lead in May 2006, with the SMP as my bible.

We have now reached the magic year 2010, and I feel it is time for the MP
to benefit from fresh leadership. Since June 2007 I have had tremendous
support from Florian as my co-Lead, and I would like to recommend him to
you as the right person to lead the MP from 2010 onwards.

The Project Lead or leads are
encouraged to nominate their successors, who must be members of the
project, and hold a plebiscite on the primary public mail list."

So, I would ask you all to confirm whether you are happy to endorse this
change of Lead, and if so, please welcome Florian and give him your
support as he takes up this challenging position.
