*No!* Once again, in "for its leading open source office suite" the

"Its" is the possessive form of "It". "It's" is the contraction for "It is".

The only other as mentioned is Project rather than projekt.

As far as pointing people to the dev release there is a thread on
private@ discussing that. As far as it being in the blog post, no that
would be a problem.

Once a month is perfect!

It would be fantastic if they could be synchronized with Matthias' builds
They would not have to be built on the same day but would be compiled from the
same source pull request
This would allow to check if any issue that pops up affects one or more
Platforms.

If this is not possible then this can be checked later on the RC builds

Thank you both!

My local Windows build was successful. All issues with language files

Time to do an official Dev2! ;-)

Thinking about it:

Does a (GitHub) tag contain the "RepoRevision"? Or do we have to do
"dmake aoo_srcrelease" for that?

But then, the whole Dev Build is useless, if nobody is supposed to know

In the end that's why we make a "Developer Snapshot" branded version.

I think we could have a blog post asking that anyone who wants to help test
development builds should join us on dev@openoffice.apache.org

No, this costs real money and will only be used for releases.

I assume at least the RC will be certified?
Yes, it costs money but it needs to be verified at some point
before the first official release.

I doubt it. But you can discuss that with the ASF if you want.

Why should I discuss with ASF? Aren't the members of the AOO PMC
convinced that you should not make experiments with Release
versions? This will be the first AOO version certified. One of the
RCs should be certified to make sure the certification
process/script/steps is correct and that the certificate is
correctly identified at least under Windows 10.

Exactly.

The release will be signed. Thank you for your understanding!

And when it runs into errors, the first question would be: Haven't you
tested the signing? The answer would be embarrassing.

So, lets try it.

My daily worker is a Linux machine. However, I can look for / test
something also on Windows.

I'm sorry if that sounded ironic. I honestly was thanking you for the
clarification.
I understand that changes in the code and corrections may require new
translations. And for us (Pedro Alburquerque and myself) that is not a problem.

It could easily exist if the developers wanted.
We could be on a tentative release process. LibreOffice 5.0 had 5 RCs.

I do not disagree. But given the very reduced number/time of developers I would
be happier if they fixed problems such as the update bug in Linux
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127774

Thanks!

Just for clarification:
There are a lot of little things (double spaces, wrong icons in help,
etc.) in the source code that we have to fix.
From time to time Mechtilde creates a new language template (en-US) and
imports it in Pootle. This results in those strings that have to be to
reviewed.

RC0 (which does not exist) would imply that we are in a release process.
And the different path is on purpose, so the "normal" profile is not
touched by the Dev Build.

Since desktop integration works on Windows (and macOS?) it would be
better to fix it on Linux. A Dev Build is for broader testing by a
bigger audience and I would like to do that more often.
4.2.0 must be thoroughly tested (after all the time) and there are still
a lot of hurdles before we can release it.

Apparentely not. There are no links anywhere. The only way to run it is to
execute /opt/openoffice_developer_build4/program/soffice.bin

In my opinion it would be better to have an RC0 that installs on the same path
and uses the same profile as the release version for proper testing than fixing
Dev builds.

Is this specific for the dev builds or does that also happen with builds
from our buildbots or even 4.1.7?

Re: macOS and AOO42X

2020-04-29 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

I fired up the binary for Linux under Ubuntu 18.04 (KDE/Plasma)
Having an issue with menus.
For most of them, start center and module top level menus, there is an odd
delay when they open where the frame for the menu is drawn and filled with
garbage for a second or so and then the menu item appear.
Some of the menus seem to have a bit more of an issue then others.
This particular start center menu is the worst, and the garbage remains
until I move the mouse cursor inside the menu frame and only then does the
menu items correctly display.
Anyway - two screen shots to show you what I mean.

OK, so I have available a handful of Lang builds for Linux 64bit and macOS
available at

   o http://home.apache.org/~jim/AOO-builds/

These are of HEAD of AOO42X and were built as developer releases... these are
not the "official" Dev2m2 releases however, although they are in a directory
that implies otherwise.

Once people give these a quick A-OK, I can go ahead and do the *real* and
*official* Dev2/4.2.0-m2 builds

That's great! Unfortunately I have no mac to test with...

I have now completed a full Dev-Build (46 languages) for Windows without
problems.
However, one bug [1] is still preventing the German version (most likely
also other) to be installed for the first time.

This one alone will give us a lot of questions when people want to try
out Dev2.

If you want that you must discuss that with the ASF if they are willing
to pay the costs for "one of the RCs".

he is already discussing with ASF. ;-)

But with the wrong person...

hm, do you mean the treasurer? Otherwise I don't know who you mean.

The release will be signed. Thank you for your understanding!

And when it runs into errors, the first question would be: Haven't you
tested the signing? The answer would be embarrassing.

So, lets try it.

I already tested it, but thank you for volunteering!

I will write you a mail with details. (Until now, I was the only one
interested in the Windows Code Signing process)

I have no interest in Windows at all. ;-)

D'Accord!

We would still need some time for the translators to complete their
language and to commit the SDFs to source...

Armenian (hy), Kabyle (kab), Oromo (om), Ukrainian (uk) and Estonian
(et) would be my proposal to add for Dev2 (and 4.2.0 Release).
