Dear Tutor
Hello! I am a master student in Software Engineering at China
University of Geosciences.
I am interested in your GSoC project "Add Overview page in BanyanDB
UI" and I am applying to complete some issues. So I apply to join
SkyWalking slack channel for quicker communication afterwards!
Thank you for your consideration.

Hello PMCs,

Google Summer of Code is the ideal opportunity for you to attract new
contributors to your projects and GSoC 2024 is here.

The ASF will be applying as a participating organization for GSoC 2024.
As a part of the application we need you all to *mandatorily* start
recording your ideas now [1] latest by 3rd Feb.

There is slight change in the rules this year, just reiterating here:
- For the 2024 program, there will be three options for project scope:
medium at ~175 hours, large at ~350 hours and a new size: small at ~90
hours.
Please add "*full-time*" label to the JIRA for 350 hour project ,
"*part-time*" label for 175 hours project and “*small*” for a 90 hour
project.

Note: They are looking to bring more open source projects in the AI/ML
field into GSoC 2024, so we encourage more projects from this domain
to participate.

If you are a new mentor or your project is participating for the first
time, please read [2][3].

2023-04-02 Thread Hongtao Gao
Hi Rahul

I received confirmation from Lujiajing that you may be interested in
working on the UI project[1] rather than the query plan project. We
would be excited to have you contribute to this new opportunity.
Please reply to the issue[2] indicating your agreement to participate.

You will work with the UI folder[3] for this project. Your main task
is to add a new "Overview" page to the top menu, placing it in the
first slot before "Dashboard," as illustrated in the screenshot[4].

To begin, I would like you to submit a proposal that includes a
prototype of the "Overview" page. You can find an example of a similar
page for inspiration here[5]. This prototype will give us an idea of
your vision for the project.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need further information.

Re: Interest in GSoC for SkyWalking BanyanDB Project: Background (Referred by Yihao Chen)

2023-03-28 Thread Hongtao Gao
Thank you for expressing your interest in participating in Google Summer of
Code (GSoC) 2023 and contributing to the SkyWalking BanyanDB project. We
appreciate your enthusiasm and the skills you bring to the table.

It is great to hear that Yihao Chen recommended this project to you. Your
strong background in database systems and query optimization makes you a
promising candidate for the project.

We appreciate your motivation and commitment to the project. In order to
move forward with your application, we encourage you to submit a proposal
detailing your plans to achieve the project's objectives. You can find more
information on how to submit a proposal on the GSoC website.

Additionally, we recommend that you reach out to Lujiajing, who is working
on the query engine, for more detailed guidance on the project.

Thank you once again for your interest in the SkyWalking BanyanDB project,
and we wish you the best of luck with your application.

Best regards,

Hongtao Gao

Interest in GSoC for SkyWalking BanyanDB Project: Background (Referred by Yihao Chen)

2023-03-27 Thread Rahul Raj
Dear Mentors,

I am writing to express my strong interest in participating in Google
Summer of Code (GSoC) 2023 and contributing to the SkyWalking BanyanDB
project: Background. Yihao Chen, a current Mentor to this
ecosystem(SkyWalking), suggested that I try this project as I am
approaching late to the mentors, and I am excited to explore the
opportunity.

After going through the project description and objectives, I believe that
I can make a valuable contribution to the project. As a computer science
student with a strong background in database systems and query
optimization, I am confident in my ability to fully unify/merge the query
planner and executor for Measure and TopN, which is one of the project's
objectives.

I understand that the deadline for the GSoC application is approaching, and
I apologize for the late submission. However, I am highly motivated and
committed to working on this project, and believe that my skills and
experience align well with the requirements.

In the past, I have participated in contests and contributed, which has
given me experience in working in a collaborative environment and using
version control systems such as Git. Furthermore, my experience working
with similar technologies, such as Elasticsearch and MongoDB, will be
beneficial in contributing to this project.

I am eager to learn more about how I can contribute to the SkyWalking
BanyanDB project and look forward to hearing back from you. Please let me
know if there are any specific skills or areas of expertise that you are
looking for in potential GSoC participants.

What to do next to successfully apply to this project. I know I am
approaching you late for this project, But I can definitely say, I will be
a better option for this project. Can I submit a proposal for this project?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Rahul Raj

Interested in GSoC 2023, for project "Python Agent Performance Enhancement Plan"

2023-03-25 Thread Rahul Raj
Hello mentors,

I hope this email finds you in good health and high spirits. My name is
Rahul Raj, and I am writing to express my keen interest in the GSoC project
you have proposed for enhancing the Python agent performance for Apache
SkyWalking.

I have been following the development of Apache SkyWalking for quite some
time now, and I am deeply impressed by its capabilities to monitor
distributed systems, especially for microservices, cloud-native, and
container-based architectures. I am passionate about open-source projects
and have contributed to several in the past. I believe that participating
in the GSoC program for Apache SkyWalking would be a great opportunity for
me to hone my skills and contribute to this project.

I have gone through the tracking issue (
https://github.com/apache/skywalking/issues/10408) related to enhancing the
Python agent performance, and I am confident that I can make significant
contributions to this project. I have experience in Python programming and
have worked on performance optimization of Python code in the past.

I am excited about the prospect of working on this project and contributing
to the growth of Apache SkyWalking. I would be honored to work under your
guidance and mentorship and contribute to the development of this project.

I would appreciate it if you could guide me on how to get started with the
project and any other relevant details. Please let me know if there is any
further information you require from my end. Am I too late for this project?

Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to hearing
from you.

Sincerely,
Rahul Raj

GSoC 2023 Contributor Interest - Python Agent Performance Enhancement Plan

2023-03-08 Thread Sukanya Krishna
Hello everyone,

My name is Sukanya Krishna and I am currently an undergraduate student at
the University of California San Diego studying bioengineering and machine
learning. I want to be an engineer and aspire to work in tech, software,
and AI in the future because not only do I find interest in these topics,
but there is so much learning that can exist in these fields.

I have found the proposal for the SkyWalking Python Agent Performance
Enhancement Plan to be very interesting, and I am familiar with some of the
tools that may be relevant such as programming in Python and utilizing
Kubernetes/Docker. I think this project can be a really cool way to learn
more about Apache products and systems.

This is my first time planning to apply for GSoC, but what attracts me to
this program is that in working on a project, your code could immediately
make an impact in the community. I find this very motivating, and I
appreciate that it presents the opportunity to work with and learn from
individuals who are far more experienced and knowledgeable than I am within
the field of analytics and computing.

If possible, I would love to chat about some of your organization's open
potential project ideas (that may be relevant to my skill set or is
friendly to learning new tools) and about proposal development!

Thank you for your time,
Sukanya

About GSoC 2021 Proposal

2021-04-08 Thread Jianfeng Hou
Hi Zhenxu,

I've already shared my proposal draft for GSoC 2021 on Google's
website for a few days. It's my first time using the website and I'm
not sure if you can see my draft. It would be really nice if you could
review my draft and help me polish it by commenting on the Google Docs
document. Thanks a lot for you help in advance!

Best regards!

Re: About SkyWalking Python GSoC Application

2021-03-30 Thread kezhenxu94@apache
CC’ed to the dev mailing list, and suggest you to subscribe to this too.

Later discussion about the project should be public, in mailing list, or GitHub,
other private personal stuff can be sent privately to me if needed, e.g.
contact info, resume, etc.

Thanks.
