Hi Marty,

Thank you for your gracious reply to my message re: pipx
I just wanted to declare that the new maintainer (Benjamin Beasley) need
not feel alone.
I'm a novice maintainer, but I respect the pipx project and want to see it
well represented in the fedora community.

Cheers,
Blaise Pabon

[EPEL-devel] EPEL Steering Committee meeting - find a new time

2021-02-19 Thread Troy Dawson
It's almost a year to the day when we last started the search for a
new time for the EPEL Steering Committee meeting.
I have created a new framadate poll with times extreme for both U.S.
and Europe. All the times are in UTC. To see what they are in your
timezone do

date -d "1300 UTC"
date -d "2300 UTC"

Here is the link to the poll.
https://framadate.org/yNIptJFnWuUR2OME

Let's give it two weeks and see how we are looking then.

Hello Harsh and welcome.

What areas do you want to contribute to?

As an example, we have a lot of bugz open for packages that fail to build with
Python 3.10:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/showdependencytree.cgi?id=PYTHON3.10_resolved=1

Many of the problems have note yet been investigated or reported to upstreams.

If that does not sound good, take a look at
https://packager-dashboard.fedoraproject.org/python-sig and pick what you like
to work on. Feel free to ask here for details about any specific thing.

Fedora 34 Beta blocker status email #2

2021-02-19 Thread Ben Cotton
This time with the correct version number.

Action summary

Proposed blockers
-

1. dogtag-pki — FreeIPA server deployment fails in current F34 and
Rawhide composes — NEW
ACTION: dogtag-pki maintainers to fix package to work with updated 389-ds-base.

2. pipewire — dnf system-upgrade download failed — ON_QA
ACTION: QA to verify FEDORA-2021-ae6cbfff6b

4. xorg-x11-drv-nouveau — nouveau prevents system from starting
gnome/xorg after boot — ON_QA
ACTION: coremodule to see if kernel-5.11.0-156 exhibits the same behavior

Bug-by-bug detail

No accepted blockers

Proposed blockers
-

1. dogtag-pki — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1929940 — NEW
FreeIPA server deployment fails in current F34 and Rawhide composes

A CVE fix in 389-ds-base requires a fix in dogtag. The error changed
from 'NO_SUCH_USER' in to 'INVALID_PASSWORD' in dogtag.

2. pipewire — https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1916094 — ON_QA
dnf system-upgrade download failed

pipewire-pulseaudio conflicts with pulseaudio. Upgrades with
`--allowerasing` work. Update FEDORA-2021-ae6cbfff6b appears to
contain a fix.

3. xorg-x11-drv-noveau —
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1928542 — NEW
nouveau prevents system from starting gnome/xorg after boot

System hangs trying to start GNOME Display Manager, unless nouveau is
disabled in grub. Downgrading from 5.11.0-0.rc7.149.fc34.x86_64 to
kernel-5.10.16-200.fc33.x86_64 allows normal operation. A new kernel
version is available which may or may not contain a fix: 5.11.0-156.

This is weird, but while it will require a smallish change to our spec
(like removing rpm-devel), I don't think it should affect anything
else. Nothing in Fedora seems to need 'ocaml(Rpm)' or /usr/bin/rpmcheck.

Ah, good TBH I was worried a bit that it was intentional.

I'm happy to hear that it was unintentional and a fix is on its way.

Sounds good, I look forward to being able to turn enforcing back on.

###

Unrelated, while looking at audit.log to get info sending my original email
I also noticed multiple of these lockdown related AVC lines:

type=AVC msg=audit(1613257073.100:186): avc:  denied  { integrity } for

[EPEL-devel] Re: Request for daemonize package

2021-02-19 Thread Gerard Braad
Hi Troy,

> because there is a bug opened today.

That one was opened last year, but I added myself to the CC, hence the update.
I am in contact with Sven about this. Will update about this later, as he had no
need for this package on EPEL8, but understand there is 'demand'. I am willing
to take co-maintainer for this if that is possible.

Your request came at a timely time. I was just starting to work on
updating (making it more clear) how to request packages for EPEL.
Although there is some brief instructions here[2], which I am going to
expand, I realize I also need to put those instructions in the FAQ.

In short, you need to open a bugzilla bug requesting the package be
put in EPEL8. But do a quick search to see if already has been
requested.
The problem with sending an email here is that it's quite possible the
Fedora maintainer isn't on this mailing list.

Doing a quick search, it looks like someone must have been on the same
project and/or saw this email,[3] because there is a bug opened today.

Hi Florian,

While I agree, this is actually for an environment where systemd is not working
yet, as the the init process claims pid 1 instead; WSL2. In that case daemonize
is used to start systemd.

You should use systemd for that. Setting the umask to 0, like daemonize
does, introduces security vulnerabilities.

Yes, it was unintentional - we introduced the lockdown class (which
mimics the lockdown mechanism, but works on per-SELinux-domain basis)
into the Fedora policy with [1], but this was one of the things not
found by initial testing. We didn't mean to introduce any regressions,
just limit the new permissions only to domains that actually need
them.

This particular issue is already fixed in git (as of a few days ago):
https://github.com/fedora-selinux/selinux-policy/commit/fee95c0434ade64c14add7f07233eb44f396262b

And the permission will be allowed also to unconfined_t, which is the
type that user sessions will get by default (under the "targeted"
policy), so also e.g. manual modprobe from terminal should still work:
https://github.com/fedora-selinux/selinux-policy/commit/e4ea1e13059ac475c3f012a3f58cbf0b0e554164

The fixes should propagate into F34 and Rawhide soon.

[EPEL-devel] Request for daemonize package

2021-02-19 Thread Gerard Braad
Hello Sven Lankes,

I am using CentOS8 and am using various packages in the EPEL
repository. I am interested in seeing 'daemonize' [0] added to EPEL.

Would it be possible for you to maintain the package in EPEL? If not
do you know of a maintainer who could help you with it? While EPEL[1]
is more conservative in package maintenance, it does allow for updates
to later versions when needed.

If you are not interested in EPEL or don't feel like you have the time
to put your packages into EPEL, the EPEL project would like to request
that a co-maintainer who is a part of EPEL be added to your packages.

The EPEL team appreciates your help with EPEL.

Regards,

Gerard Braad

Fedora 34 selinux blocking out-of-tree module loading even when secureboot is disabled???

2021-02-19 Thread Hans de Goede
Hi All,

While dogfooding F34 I noticed that out of tree kernel modules (1) are
now being blocked, not by the kernel's lockdown mechanism (which only
does this when secureboot is enabled) but by selinux:

audit: type=1400 audit(1613736626.937:95): avc: denied { integrity } for
pid=401 comm="systemd-udevd" lockdown_reason="unsigned module loading"
scontext=system_u:system_r:udev_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023
tcontext=system_u:system_r:udev_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 tclass=lockdown permissive=1

Note as you can see I've put selinux in permissive mode and that
fixes the unsigned module loading, showing that this is indeed
caused by some new selinux rules.

I must say that this seems like a bad idea, we already have the kernel
enforcing module-loading lockdown stuff, we really do not need selinux to
add extra enforcement on top of this, esp. not enforcement which seems
to circumvent the usual "disable secure boot" workaround.

I believe this is a bad idea for 2 reasons

1. Whether we like it or not sometimes our users want to use /
have a need for external kernel modules. This is incompatible with
secure-boot. Which is meh, but understandable since we should not
allow loading unsigned kernel-code when secure-boot is used and
external modules are by definition unsigned.

But now we are breaking the usual (already a bit sucky)
"disable secure-boot in your BIOS" workaround by adding another hoop
to jump through, this is IMHO a really bad idea.

2. It makes using Fedora for kernel development harder, well at least
it will make kernel developers like me just put selinux in permissive
mode (at which point I might just as well disable it) As a frequent
dog-fooder of recent Fedora versions, while running in enforcing mode,
I'm know to regularly report selinux policy issues. This feedback will
be lost now ...

Regards,

Hans

1) Not really an out-of-tree module actually, I saw the when copying
an individual .ko file from my build-machine to the target-machine,
so without going through make modules_install and thus without it
being signed with my local signing-key. But out-of-tree modules will
hit the same issue

Review swap: hugo container image

2021-02-19 Thread Athos Ribeiro

Hi,

I am packaging a container image and I would love to get a review on it:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1930236

I can review either a container image or an RPM package back for you :)

regards,

Athos

It's generally disabled AFAIK. Or broken. Same outcome.

AFAIK it's still running. Happy to decommission it though.

I think in one pull request, I saw simple-koji-ci being able to
generate the source tarball (presumably from the Source: URL) -> SRPM
-> start the build even when the tarball hadn't yet been uploaded to
the lookaside cache. Fedora CI wasn't able to do that at that time
(probably still can't) and Zuul CI wasn't enabled on that repo back
then.

Was I just imagining things or does simple-koji-ci really have that
feature? If yes, does/will Zuul CI provide the same?

Yes, simple-koji-ci does this, but I consider it a bug.

I can't say for simple-koji-ci, but regarding Zuul the default jobs
workflow is:

1: rpm-scratch-build: build a srpm from the PR, submit the srpm to Koji to
run a scratch build,
finally store the built rpms in a public storage

Once 1 is finished, and in parallel:
2: rpmlint: run rpmlint command on built rpms
3: rpminspect: run rpminspect command on built rpms
4: rpm-install-test: install the built rpms on the target system
5: rpm-test (if STI tests inside the PR/distgit): run the STI tests

In addition, if the package produces architecture specific binaries, then
Zuul runs additional
scratch-build jobs such as rpm-scratch-build-[s390x, ...], that are skipped
if fully noarch.
This can be seen here [1] and here [2].

Re: So long for now...

2021-02-19 Thread T.J. Yang
Hi Martin and Stephen

Thank you for maintaining the pkgs for all these years.
Since I am using the Nagios rpms at my dayjob , I for one will spend time
on rpms producing matter.
But I am fedora EPEL rpm workflow newbie and I don't maintain any existing
rpm.

Are there experienced ones out there interested to adopt these nagios
pkgs ?
