For build 301 we've disabled pretty boot so the next time you see this
you'll be able to provide more useful information about the crash.
Please test it!

Also, on this machine are you using any external peripherals?

Good trick. It's downloading now.

I had a USB serial port (GPS) plugged in.

Here's the first build in our 10.1.2 F11/XO-1 release stream, as promised
yesterday. Thanks to Daniel Drake for working on getting this started!

Thanks.

 Please test and report bugs!

I've seen it hang during booting, 2 out of 6-10 tries. There is one dot
visible and the big X is still an X before it changes to a V and goes around
in a circle. Is there anything I can do to collect more info?

Do you expect suspend/restore to work? It seems to work from the touchpad
and keyboard, but I can't get it to wakeup when a WiFi packet arrives.

I turned on Settings/Power Automatic Power Management
I turned off Settings/Radio Wireless/Radio

If I wait a while (30 seconds?), the CPU/Power LED shifts to blink mode. The
WiFi LED is still on. Ping won't wake it up.

ping -i 5 keeps it from suspending.
ping -i 6 doesn't. Once the CPU/Power LED starts blinking, ping stops
working.

A finger on the touchpad wakes it up. (So far, every time I've tried it.)
Keys work too, but I've only tried them a few times.

The My Settings/Radio Wireless/Radio checkbox seems to turn itself back on.
If I turn it off, then get out of My Settings, then go back to My Settings,
it's on.

The WiFi LED doesn't track that checkbox. If the box is (was?) unchecked,
the LED stays on when it suspends. That's what I expect. If the box is
checked, the LED still stays on when it suspends. I was expecting it to turn
off.

(But even with the LED on, it doesn't wakeup when a packet arrives so who
knows what's really going on.)

Please work on Xorg (driver) bugs and tasks together with the wider
community of Geode graphics. For example AMD is already looking into
screen rotation problems with xorg-server-1.7 and newer, and doing it
more cleanly in general for all versions.
We are not aware of any specific issues with the 1.6 server version used
in Fedora Core 11 in regards to screen rotation. So, is there?

Thanks for the invite! In this case... sorry -- should have
clarified:the screen rotation bug is on XO-1.5 which uses Via (w
chrome driver).

So what I was indicating is that for 10.1.2 we'll be looking at
general bugs, as well as hw-specific bugs (xo-1 and xo-1.5).

Back to your concern about Geode, I looked briefly at our bugtracker,
looking for current Geode bugs:

 - http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/9590 - screen rotation -- may be fixed

 - http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/10200 Geode Xv colors go wacky after resume

This search should show all the 'correctly tagged' bugs in our bugtracker:

In related news, https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15700
seems to be fixed or close to a final fix? That's great!

cheers,

Could be http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/9100
First thing to do is always boot with the tick key so that you can
provide more info on exactly where it hangs.

If you have serial console, recording the output of that would be very useful.

New XO-1 10.1.2 build 300

Here's the first build in our 10.1.2 F11/XO-1 release stream, as
promised yesterday. Thanks to Daniel Drake for working on getting
this started!

This is an unsigned build, so to install it you need to:

 ok copy-nand u:\os300.img

with the os300.img and os300.crc files on a USB stick.

Please test and report bugs!

Thanks,

- Chris.

Re: New XO-1 10.1.2 build 300

2010-07-08 Thread Daniel Drake
To answer a few inevitable questions:

This is F11 + Sugar 0.84 + GNOME 2.26, for XO-1.

It's unsigned, meaning that you need a developer key to install it. I
think OLPC will start producing signed betas soon.

It's similar to recent builds made by Steven Parrish, and the 0.84
variant of the Paraguayan builds, the main differences are that a few
more bugs have been fixed, and that everything comes from official
OLPC RPM repositories and osbuilder, making it easier for deployers in
other places. One of the bigger changes is the readdition of mesh
support in sugar.

It's particularly significant because (when the release goes final) it
means we have synchronized software between XO-1 and XO-1.5.

In terms of bugs I've been working here:
http://dev.laptop.org/milestone/1.0-software-update

Even though its similar to the versions that many have already been
testing, this would benefit from some fresh testing with the mindset
of it being an upgrade on top of OLPC OS 8.2.1 build 802.

I feel that this version is almost ready for release, but am eager to
see if other people can find new problems.

It is being built with olpc-os-builder from git, using configuration
examples/olpc-os-10.1.2-xo1.ini (see
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OSBuilder )

Re: New XO-1 10.1.2 build 300

If anyone is in a power-measuring mode, it would be nice to measure
the power usage when the Record activity is active and displaying the
live feed, and compare it to measurements of the same situation on
8.2.1 build 802.

We have halved the amount of data coming from the camera which will
hopefully have an effect on power consumption.

While that bug #9350 is important, I don't think it should hold up a
10.1.2 synchronised release. If that means the XO-1.5 build number
doesn't change from os206, so be it.

(However, I'd be surprised if we didn't need to fix something on XO-1.5
to get everything working between XO-1 and XO-1.5.)

I'm easy either way; #9350 might be fixed and released in 10.1.2 or
a 10.1.3, but it would be better fixed earlier than later. It is an
obvious regression from XO-1 to XO-1.5.
