Don't we need to obsolete the subpackage, though, so that it gets
removed on upgrade? Or can we rely on the fact that it had been pulled
in as a dependency only (rather than installed directly)?

Indeed. cc-ing Jiri to see if he wants to be added back. Jiri, if you do
so, maybe change your email in
https://accounts.fedoraproject.org/user/salimma/settings/email/ ?

Meanwhile I'm doing a build that removes the network-scripts-teamd
subpackage - my initial glance at the changelog was wrong, most Fedora
releases are already on 1.32 so we don't need to bump the package yet.

That's a lot of dependent packages! I've taken up libteam, the open bugs
seem reasonable to fix and there is a new release as well (I'll
prioritize fixing the bug first then build the new release in Rawhide
first).

If there's anyone who is interested in comaintaining libteam, let me

Regarding libteam, the author of the package is the maintainer, email in
bugzilla is different than the one on the project. I wonder if Jiro just
missed the notification that his package is failing to build in F40.

2024-04-04 Thread Thomas Moschny
Hi,

sorry for the late response, have been a bit busy recently...

Yes, we should remove botan (1) from Fedora - that has also been a request
by upstream. The point is, I want to keep monotone, and it needs a bit of
work to switch it over to botan2. There exists a branch that should have
the necessary changes, but no released version.

Anyway, the monotone switch will not make it in time for F40 I guess, but
I'll look into it.

Regarding botan3, I guess no one has volunteered yet to maintain it.

Regards,
Thomas

I guess that was a bad idea - so I have re-orphaned it after some detailed
discussions with @penguinpee in #devel.
He also helped to decouple monotone from ikiwiki in rawhide, so the impact
should be less now.

The last botan-1.1 release was in 2018 and I think Debian/Ubuntu dropped
botan1 at the same time?
So it seems high time to remove this unmaintained version from Fedora too.
(We have botan2 in Fedora of course and I hope to see botan3 as well?)

It seems too late to do more on this for F40 now? or we would need an Final
Exception

Thanks, Jens

It was closed after it was fixed. The update was stuck at beta freeze and
nobody associated the FTI bugzilla with it.

No, it was reported
installable (comment 5) on 7th March by fti-bugs but was not closed as it
should have been then.

On Fedora 41 only.

Then it was orphaned
(comment 6) on 21st March.

Yes, because it was still NEW and not acted upon by the maintainer.

Then again reported
installable (comment 7) on 25th which actually closed the bug.

On Fedora 40.

Which is why I am asking if the orphaned can be reverted, please.

Yes, if the previous maintainer is still interested in maintaining it, they can
take the package back by clicking on the *Take* button.

It makes no sense to me to assign it back to them if they are not interested.

Of course we have botan2 (but not botan3) in Fedora...

Good hint is typically in dist-git Pagure, e.g. look left at here:

These days, I am not sure if orphaned packages are the right start. They
could be, but generally, it is good to start with package which is close
to your heart, something you use.

The following packages are orphaned and will be retired when they
are orphaned for six weeks, unless someone adopts them. If you know
for sure
that the package should be retired, please do so now with a proper
reason:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_remove_a_package_at_end_of_life

...

Depending on: python-Pympler (64), status change: 2024-01-05 (1 weeks
ago)

...

python-attrs (maintained by: @python-packagers-sig, churchyard,
lbalhar)
    python-attrs-23.1.0-4.fc39.src requires python3dist(pympler) =
1.0.1

This seems unused, I've opened:

https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-attrs/pull-request/19

The rest of the impacted packages pretty much depend on attrs, not pympler.

$ repoquery -q --repo=rawhide{,-source} --whatrequires python3-Pympler
matrix-synapse+cache_memory-0:1.98.0-3.fc40.x86_64
matrix-synapse-0:1.98.0-3.fc40.src
python-attrs-0:23.1.0-4.fc39.src

That is correct and the suggested removal of Pympler from attrs will
solve the problem for the indirectly impacted packages.

On the other hand, Pympler is what shows up on Packager Dashboard for
orphan-impacted packages as "remotely depends on orphaned package".
There, the dependency graph makes it clear that the intermediary package
is python-attrs.

I'm thinking the distinction between directly impacted and remotely
impacted as shown on the dashboard is actually rather helpful (as is the
graph itself). Maybe that is something that could be improved in the
scripts output?

For python-google-crc32c the list of indirectly impacted packages is
rather long. In fact, so long that the script truncates it. When I
looked into it last time, trying to find the connection between
python-plotnine and google-crc32c, I eventually gave up. That was before
I discovered the graph on the dashboard.

Today I ended up with something "horrible" like

fedrq wrsrc -X -F source python-google-crc32c | \
fedrq wrsrc -i -X -F source | \
fedrq wrsrc -i -X -F source | \
fedrq wrsrc -i -X -F source | \
fedrq wrsrc -i -X -F source

to arrive at plotnine.

I have yet to find a simple way of producing an output akin to the
dashboard graph for showing the chain of dependencies between two
packages. I'm open to suggestions.

I took these as usual.

At least llvm12 is still needed on aarch64 and s390x:

$ fdrq -q -a aarch64 rawhide --whatrequires llvm12 | grep -v llvm12
ghc8.10-compiler-8.10.7-12.fc40.aarch64 (fedora-rawhide-aarch64)
ghc9.0-compiler-9.0.2-14.fc39.aarch64 (fedora-rawhide-aarch64)
$ fdrq -q -a s390x rawhide --whatrequires llvm12 | grep -v llvm12
ghc9.2-compiler-9.2.8-21.fc39.s390x (fedora-rawhide-s390x)

Hi, everyone

I want to take over python-gpiozero,but I'm not a packager at the
moment, i'm really eager to contribute to the community.

I update the package, to the latest version upstream, here you can find the
spec file

SPEC:
https://download.copr.fedorainfracloud.org/results/crisdel/python3-gpiozero/fedora-rawhide-x86_64/06589716-python-gpiozero/python-gpiozero.spec

my FAS username is crisdel
I kindly request if someone can sponsor me, I really want to become a
proficient package maintainer so all feedback is always welcome.

Thanks for your time.

maintaining RBTools. Just slipped my mind when I saw that the packages
are in process of being dropped from f39 :(
I can add you as an admin when the unretirement is processed.

Somehow I missed the retirement of these two packages (can we have
nice 'will be retired in a week' emails for the FTI process as well,
please?).
I need to keep these alive, and it took two small patches to fix
compatibility with python 3.12. Unretirement tickets are already
filed.

Now that this is solved, we do have Electrum for f39 and rawhide. But
unfortunately, without updating protobuf, newer versions won't be
possible. I tried just patching the version check to relax it to
protobuf 3.19 and it won't work. Also note that in 4.4.x, it doesn't say
3.12 in requirements.txt anymore, but 3.20.

Grepping through the Electrum source, I see:

     Electrum-4.3.4/contrib/deterministic-build/requirements.txt

Based on that, it looks like the minimum protobuf version should

Re: Orphaned packages looking for new maintainers

2023-09-18 Thread Ben Beasley
Since the python-qdarkstyle package is needed for the Spyder IDE, I
ended up claiming it and fixing it. The main change is that I dropped
the dependency on PySide2, since PySide2 is still broken on Python 3.12.

Now that python-qdarkstyle is installable on F39/F40 again, I was able
to build electrum without any modifications; I added the builds  to my
latest updates involving python-qdarkstyle:

F40: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2023-3a1e52015a

F39: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2023-527f01eddb

I’ve never used Electrum, and I didn’t attempt to test the package
interactively, but at least it is buildable and installable now.

Hi,

I want to let you know that all packages depending on maven-clean-plugin
can most probably just use:

%prep
...
%pom_remove_plugin :maven-clean-plugin

and live happily after.

I am not aware of any purpose of maven-clean-plugin for Fedora package
builds.

Interested parties have been grappling with the problem of getting protobuf
updated to v4 (22.x, 23.x, etc.), but the number of impacted packages is
tremendous and there are not enough people with time to work on it, so progress
has been slow. The following PR represents the state of that work[1]. Note that
I’m not a co-maintainer of protobuf, but I’ve been collaborating on it because
it is an important dependency for grpc, and I can’t update grpc any more
(including for security fixes) until we have protobuf v4.

There was some sentiment that we should focus on working toward the protobuf v4
transition rather than on updating to newer 3.x branches during the F39
development cycle. However, I’m not sure if everyone really understood the full
scope of that transition.

At this point, and given the amount of work remaining to make protobuf v4
possible, it’s probably a good idea for protobuf to be updated to a current v3
release, ideally 3.24.2. Given the number of potentially impacted packages, and
the huge list of packages that need to be rebuilt (minor version updates break
ABI), it’s probably too late to land that in F39, but it should be possible for
F40, and it would be a good hedge against the possibility that the v4 work
drags on for another release cycle (or more?!).

Input is welcome. Even more welcome is assistance working through unresolved
protobuf v4 incompatibilities in dependent packages.

Electrum isn't orphaned, but cannot be updated because protobuf is not
being updated. Newer versions require at least protobuf 3.20. I

Updates for Rawhide are created automagically after a successful build, so the
update already exists [0], no need to create it manually. You'll need to do
that only for F39.

On Fedora 39, you need to create the update manually. Let me know iof you need

Re: Orphaned packages looking for new maintainers

2023-09-04 Thread Ben Beasley

It looks like you also took python-autopep8.

Could you add neuro-sig group with commit rights for python-autopep8
please? This package is in the dependency stack for Spyder. I've already
adopted other recently orphaned packages needed by Spyder and intent to
fix and update them as needed in order to keep Spyder around.

Btw, you'll find a PR for python-autopep8, which will fix the FTBFS/FTI
bugs and allow me to fix a dependent package.

The issue RHBZ 2155014 has been fixed by adding python3-setuptools as build
requirement. The build passed using mockbuild on my local machine (tested on
f38, f39 and rawhide).

I pushed the change only to rawhide branch, should I do the same for f39?

The change looks fine. Since you have been playing around with adding

Taking these two. Note: these as well as switcheroo-control are
dependencies of key GNOME packages (iio-sensor-proxy is also needed by
Cinnamon). So - any comaintainer from @gnome-sig and the Cinnamon SIG

But we will be actively investigating how to replace rpkg in Copr. Unless somebody will take over the maintenance. Both

I looked through the Urdu bits using
https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Naskh+Arabic and things
generally look okay. All the letters used in Urdu (~40, which is more
than ~30 used in Arabic) seem to be present. The text is legible and
readable. I tried a few punctuation marks and they are getting rendered

Actually nafees-naskh-fonts would need some font config to become default.
So I guess the easiest thing is indeed to unretire the old default package.

I have no idea if Noto Sans Arabic or Noto Naskh Arabic is qualified
for Urdu and Punjabi. Even though they have minimal coverage in
fontconfig perspective, there might be minor differences which look
strange for native speakers like punctuation marks in CJK etc.

If we are going to change, we need feedback then.
For the last resort, I could take them over temporarily though, we
definitely need some help from Urdu/Punjabi communities.

Looking into it further, per
https://tagoh.fedorapeople.org/fonts/status/current.html , it's not
intended to be our default font for Arabic any more, but it *is* the
intended default for Urdu and Punjabi (sans). For the installer at
least we may be able to get away with dropping it and hoping the noto
fonts we install:

installpkg google-noto-sans-vf-fonts google-noto-sans-mono-vf-fonts
installpkg google-noto-sans-arabic-vf-fonts
installpkg google-noto-sans-cjk-fonts
installpkg google-noto-sans-ethiopic-vf-fonts google-noto-sans-georgian-vf-fonts
installpkg google-noto-sans-gurmukhi-vf-fonts google-noto-sans-hebrew-vf-fonts
installpkg google-noto-sans-khmer-vf-fonts
installpkg google-noto-sans-sinhala-vf-fonts google-noto-sans-thai-vf-fonts

provide sufficient coverage. CCing Akira Tagoh too. Also following up
at https://pagure.io/releng/failed-composes/issue/5031 (the Rawhide
failed compose issue).

So this one is a problem: it appears to be our intended default font
for Arabic. It's part of the @fonts group in comps and it's also in the
lorax templates (meaning we expect to need it in the installer
environment):

https://github.com/weldr/lorax/blob/master/share/templates.d/99-generic/runtime-install.tmpl#L164

This git its deadline and got retired yesterday, and that is causing
the Rawhide compose to fail at the moment:

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=101913117

We need someone to pick up and unretire this package, or we need to
designate another font that's still maintained as our default Arabic
font, or, uh, we need to drop Arabic support from the installer, I
guess...
