It is not necessary to read the Visio image file. Just capture the
image from a screen image.
Of course, this can only be done when there is no copyright problem.
Perhaps if a vendor has Visio images of its products in the public
domain. But not any images on Visio's original disks.

Check out http://www.wvware.com/wvInfo.html for info on that, they have
the word97 format available for download on the same page, plus the wv
library supports word2000 as well I think.
Strange this should come up, I spent some time this weekend looking into
the feasibility of reverse engineering VSD, at least to view the preview
diagrams and simple diagrams.
