Does it matter which version of PACTOR is
being used?
I hope to get on sometime in the next few
weeks and am trying to get a handle on the
protocols.

Hey Doc...
Not to me. I'm using an AEA PK232MBX PACTOR I here...
Bet Ten meters will be pretty good as I'm hearing quite a few
strong PSK signals on 10.120 right now at 1430Z.
Will be looking for Nick on PACTOR on 7074 at 1411Z as he indicated,
then the other freqs as needed.

Nick..
Will be there and will see what happens Will move with you
as conditions require. Strong signals on 10.120 PSK right now.
Beacons are doing pretty well, with the K5AB Beacon in Central,
Texas coming in here at a solid S9 on 28.278

Nick, you
Currently on 14074 LSB afsk. Using a PK232MBX here so Pactor 1 only.
10m is rather dead here now.

NO Sir.The AEA is a vey old AEA Multimode Terminal Unit
that can handle PACTOR I only insofar as PACTOR is concerned.
I got mine in 1991, in California.

Howard is correct and is the main reason that very few use Pactor modes
other than to connect to BBS systems (Winlink and other spin offs), and
Winlink 2000 PMBO stations. Having only one company selling the only
products where P2 and P3 are available, insures low adoption and high
cost due
Is then the protocol that unless one specifies
Pactor II or Pactor III that one always means
Pactor I?
That would be helpful for me to know. I was
wondering if I told someone Pactor that they
might be calling on II or III and I would not
hear them with a I-only setup.
Thanks! doc

Hi,
I wonder when the Pactor III patent runs out? Then it is fair game

I just thought a better solution just *might* be for the
original poster to contact you with the details on the problems
with the 6 meter frequency than to follow the 'ignore'
Although it is not in the same category in terms of the necessary speed,
this is something to point in the right direction.

Doc,
Pactor, being the general term for three specific sub modes, can mean
any of the three or it can mean Pactor 1.
Since Pactor uses a backward compatible calling technique, if you don't
have the new modes, the P2 and P3 units would normally default to the
Pactor 1 level.
It is true
Hello, Rick.
You couldn't be more correct. This was especially true with the
advent of PSK. PACTOR I went BYE-BYE in short order. I did
find that even with the addition of the faster PSK speeds, that
most everyone remains with Vanilla PSK31. Apparently, most Hams
