I was mainly things like the audio that I was concerned about. Some of the
software seems to need a very close relationship with the sound card and I was
worried about having that extra layer of virtualisation in there.
I don't think I run any modes where torn-around time is critical

I have had some good success running decoding s/w under both wine and an XP VM
within Ubuntu.
Not all software works (the dreaded ROS dies under wine) but it's never decoded
anything for me under Windoze!

I tried to run RMSExpress (WINMOR) under Windows XP in a VirtualBox. It works
well in "telnet" mode but does not connect in Winmor Winlink mode. The reason
is that during the "connect" process there is an exchange of informations
between the server and my station and the delay from reception to
