While I absolutely agree that the executable names should be changed,
file associations needs a bit more than that, I was very glad to see
that LibO brought back the ability to choose file associations for Word,
Excel and Powerpoint file types at install time, but more is needed -
the associations for the newer XML formats need to be treated
separately, so, instead of just 3 associations, there would be 6.

With that one difference in mind, I'd *love* to see LibO implement
something along the lines of my long-standing request (77257) for a
proper 'File Extension Manager' (which was created long before the new
XML formats):

The associations are with a executable file in a specific path.
No problem for two files with same name in different paths.
No problem to change the association to an executable file with the same

Libo 3.3rc1 and OOo 3.3rc8 on same disk, also OOo 3.2.1 in a portable

I think Calc is better than Spread because point out the application
main purpose that is to execute many *calcs* rather than being mainly
(a) spread (sheet), isn't it?

However I think for 3.3 it is better to maintain the OOo names and then
(3.4, 4.0, ...) rethinking icons, names and so on.

This is critical when attempting to have OOo and LibO co-exist on Windows.

- LO takes over all OOo application defaults icons.
- LO uses the same executable names as OOo (soffice.exe, swriter.exe,
etc). This makes it impossible to select an .odt and re-associate it
with OOo.

Several people have commented here that Calc sounds like a calculator program, not one with the
kinds of features a spreadsheet provides. A spreadsheet is well understood to provide not only
calculations, but also simple database-type and text layout capabilities -- there are plenty of
people who use a spreadsheet when what they're really doing is creating a text document!
Spreadsheet includes, but is not limited to, calculations, so being a spreadsheet is more
accurate. It truly is the purpose of Calc (or Spread, or whatever we call it).

However I think for 3.3 it is better to maintain the OOo names and then (3.4, 4.0, ...) rethinking
icons, names and so on.

Any documentation released with the first LibO will necessarily have the old names to avoid delays,
but we'll need this determined soon for the development of LibO-specific documentation.

Instead of this I think that LO should have all its own extensions and
accessories and should completely divorce itself from OOo sooner rather
than later.
