Well, if its not practical to wire the laptop or the
BPA please if you install Lame and then disable RTSP-WAV and
RTSP-FLAC, it should minimise the problem as you will used MP3 to SB
and not Flac. I see MP3 as the scourge of the noughties, however, it
might help, can you please tell me how to do this. Thanks

I have recently set up my squeezebox 2 wireless version and i went
through the procedure which worked well. The computer and squeezebox
began talking to each other and then it told me it needed a software
update. I pressed and held the brightness button like it told me and it
froze. This happens
I ordered a Transporter direct from Slim Devices in the US on the 5th
November and got a call from the courier in Sydney this arvo - they
will deliver it tommorrow. The SB3 turned up a week ago.
Come on down we have plenty of room and obviously better links with the
US.

I don't use Itunes, but someone posted something similar a few weeks
ago, and then found their problem was solved by doing a full clear and
rescan in Slimserver. Maybe try that ?

Try making a wired connection while updating. That can avoid problems.
And it will do no harm (though is probably not necessary) to go through
the setup procedure again after updating.

have it set up correctly.
You need to minimise the number of wirless hops the data needs to take
inside your home.

I'm planning on getting a T-amp and a pair of cheap speakers for my
daughter's Squeezebox setup. I tried out some PC speakers that I had
lying around, but they all made a noise/hiss as soon as the SB was
connected. Can someone confirm that the T-amp is quiet when no music is
playing?

It would be nice, though, if the default skin looked better in Firefox.
That could cause problems for new owners of SB3.
The previous version of Slimserver defaulted to pretty much the same
appearance in Mozilla/Firefox that it did in Internet Explorer.

You've misunderstood what I wrote. The SB3 can be anywhere. The _server_
needs to be wired to the router. The problem is that you're trying to

What most people call computer speakers have amplifiers in them and
are meant to take a line-level input, not the output of an amplifier
even as small as the T-Amp. I'm not surprised that noise was amplified
to an intolerable level, and I don't think you'll like the results with
music either.
Let me jump in and say I run SlimServer on my main system, an old Athlon
1800-based WinXP setup with 1GB RAM. SS has not had any perceivable
effect on the system's performance, even when serving music to three
Squeezeboxes simultaneously (synch and unsynched).

Actually, to clarify my earlier post, the Squeezebox can only talk to
Slimserver. It cannot talk directly to uPNP media servers.
However Slimserver can see uPNP servers on your network and will make
the media shared by these available to the Squeezebox.

You must make sure that the data is identical
I haven't seen a need for v1 tags since 2001, so I can't imagine they're
needed now. Some software used to behave incorrectly when faced with
both format tags in a file.
Slimserver seems to support v2.x without an issue, so I'd simply strip
the v1.x stuff if I were you.

The SB3 will predominately reside connected to our kitchen hi fi. This
is 2 rooms away from the router. I would prefer the lap top to be
mobile - e.g. sat here stroking the cat typing this and just waiting
for the football to start! My main hi fi remains the domain of recorded

I've been unable to get to most (all?) Live365 stations for the last
several days. The SB3 just says Connecting... but never plays
anything. I've tried playing stations from SB3 directly and also from
slimserver with the same results.
Anyone have ideas how I might go about fixing this?
More info--if I go to live365.com on my PC, play a station, and
copy-paste the URL into slimserver's Tune In URL, it plays through
the SB... Help!

Has there been any talk about a Yahoo! LaunchCast plugin before? Their
client seems to be an ActiveX control (that's why it doesn't work on
Firefox without IE Tab and not in Linux at all, from what I hear).

In my situation it's as simple as this. All VA albums are listed in a
position determined by the name of the artist of their first tracks.
So one album with the first track by 49 Acres gets listed between
1 Maniacs and 808 State using Artist/Year/Album as you've
indicated.
