Your symptoms for hung also seem to match crashed
- what activity is showing that makes you think slimserver is still
running but hung as opposed to crashed
Have you checked the event log to see if slimserver has crashed in the
past ?

Hi, We've been having problems with tracks in the library disappearing,
and I think we've traced it to a problem that occurs if we forget to
switch on our NAS (where the music files live).
Briefly:
If we try to play an album and the NAS is switched off, it fails to
play as you'd expect.

Surely if the NAS is switched off, it shoudn't do anything to the music
library?
AFAIK SlimServer will try to keep its database up to date with your
collection. If it finds a song has disappeared, it's removed from the
library (or should be). If you shut down your NAS, SlimServer won't find

I'm having goof results with SS on WHS CTP, except when using the

router - it connects wirelessly to an AIrport Extreme Base STation
(which then connects to the SLimServer machine via wires/switch).

I've just received an pair of Audioengine 5 speakers in the UK
(purchased from Ecodigital)
I'm very happy with the appearance and sound quality when playing but I
have a niggling issue in that the speaker housing the amplifier emits a
faint buzzing sound which is noticeable when between tracks
Good point - maybe they're on the same channel. DIdn't realise that was
important (as one is repeating the other). Will try changing it.

Haven't ever used, but there are tools
Instead of drive letters you can map them to an empty folder if you're
using NTFS - that's what I do for my SB.
In Disk Management, in the properties of the drive in question, remove
the drive letter then add a mapping to your empty folder. Each drive

I also sit about six feet away from my speakers in an office setting. I
have never noticed a hum. Of course, my office is not absolutely quiet.
If I put my ear against the speaker, I can hear a faint hum that I

The amplifier in your speakers is generating mechanical noise because
the transformer inside the amp is vibrating from the electricity and
the vibrations have not been properly dampened. A line conditioner
won't help because it is coming from the amp, not the current. That is
why you hear it at

Stuck again...
I tried switching to the Squeeze Network using my PPP connection to the
internet, and of course that did not work. The SB3 attempts to leave
Slimserver running on my PC, and switch directly to the internet, and
Slimserver can no longer provide the proxied connection it was when I

I am really not sure about Windows Home Server. Conceptually it has
potential. But I can't help thinking it is a re-packaging of Windows
Small Business Server (SBS is very evident on WHS). Windows 2003 is now
virtually at the end of its life and Longhorn is due for release at the
end of the year.
Most of AlienBBC is to do with parsing BBC web site to get urls for
programs and streams. This is not relevant to RadioTime.
AlienBBC also sets up handlers for RTSP (realaudio) URLS and rm, rpm
and ram extensions. If radiotime delivers an URL in the correct format
- slimserver will run it.

MusicBrainz is not the best. itunesencode will automatically transfer a

So, I installed IE7, not to run SlimServer, but for another purpose. I
was running SS on Firefox. Now, it seems that IE7 has taken over as
the default interface for SlimServer, and I can't get it to run in

able to have basic playback control using a lirc-compatible remote. My
plan was to use irexec to execute commands (/bin/sh equivalent). I was
imagining something in the style of either:
$slimserver -playerid
Had a look at the CLI interface but I don't see how to do this as this
requires logging into the slimserver.
Have a look at the playlist commands. They take the player ID as the first
parameter:
playerid playlist index +1
