Yes there seems to be no sure way of knowing that you really get
bitpeefectness with apple , not that most people would care but us who
do care seems to own squeezeboxes already :)

Airplay is LAN-only (for all intents and purposes)
All Apple devices (Macs/iDevice/Apple TV/AE) all have digital outs (in
some form).
Streaming e.g. ALAC with Airplay and using digital outs *should* be
bitperfect.
