Wouldn't it just be easier to use SoftSqueeze? Once the player is
connected to SS, you could adjust whatever settings for that player/ip,
and they could browse/listen to your music as though they were sitting
in your living room. Why should they even use the SS Web UI?

differently than before is open the ports through the firewall to
troubleshoot remote access. Does this make any sense? What else would
cause the server to stop when the ip refreshes?

As much as chris.mason assures us its straightforward, I'm still

Absolutely brilliant Peter! Both 22 443 are available, I
double-checked 9000 - no connection. Took me a minute to figure out how
to terminate connections though - turns out 'quit' works!
So I think I have a way forward now.

Hi Robin,
Can you recommend a SSH tunnel set-up for XP with a low RPN (Risk
Priority Number), ie. just about idiot-proof? I've looked at the
documentation for OpenSSH, and it looks like a high RPN to me! Would
anybody else care to comment on their experience?

Maybe its time for me to pull out the box with Ubuntu Dapper on it and
get Slimserver going on it looks like it will be better suited to
OpenSSH. I think I should go get another USB drive though, so I can
keep the windows server running until its working right..

my server is accessible over the internet, just I can't reach it from
work! ie. via http://my.ip.xx.xx:9000
What does 3483 do anyway? Some sort of a control function?

I have an old version of Playlist Manager, and SuperDateTime - I think
everything else is standard. It might be the PlaylistMan - I was
thinking of updating to the latest anyway, so I'll do that and report

I was just poking around and noticed that the Admin tool for my SMC
WBR14g wireless router doesn't take any note of the SB3 in the activity
logs or connected MAC addresses. Maybe that's what they did to fix the
wireless problems?? Stealth firmware! Hmm...

watch the info for the SMC wireless adapter, it
just keeps on ticking. I thought it might be Windows' Wireless Zero
Configuration, but I checked, and its not active. Any other ideas what
could cause the streaming connection to drop off like this?

Inspirational - and very convincing. I have a similar old machine
taking up space which should be perfect for the job. I just need to
make it run more quietly first, the power supply fan sounds like a jet
turbine - guess I'm off to the computer shop in the next few days!
