Softsqueeze does not decode WMA - it needs Slimserver to do it.
On Linux this is normally done by ffmpeg or mplayer. These app will
work on a MIPS processor but decoding will be slow as MIPS processor
does not have hardware Floating Point support.
Ffmpeg or mplayer could work for WMA files but
Thanks for the information BPA. So long as the Squeezebox can play it I
am happy. That is what I set it up for. I just didn't want to have to

It might be worth using mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en) or similar to
examine the tags on the offending mp3 file. It could be a case of
corrupted tags.

By default WMP will put protection on files you have ripped into WMA.
Squeezebox cannot play protected WMA files.
Did you explicitly turn off protection in WMP when you ripped your
files ?

Copy the playlist to your laptop, open it in a text editor and replace

As I understand it, that is very unlikely to happen. Slimserver is

For me, it turned out the the problem was with the Perl Encode module
which is used for Unicode character translation.
I'm runing a CentOS 4.2 box which had Encode 2.01 (I think) installed.
I had a semi-repeatable problem using the CLI that caused a
segmentation fault. It happened on the 6.5.0

The MP3 option requires the lame application to be installed. Lame is
not installed as part of slimserver - you have to download your own
copy (version 3.96.1 is good) for your OS and install it.

To zap a song, press and hold add whilst playing. This will add the

Ok, I may have been a bit hasty. Using Mplayer seems to work fine, but

I was able to fix the problem by upgrading and installing the latest
