I'd email support and ask them. If they no longer have SB3 remotes another option is to buy the Touch IR remote. I think the only thing missing on the Touch remote is the brightness button. If your SB3 remote is truly dead, try popping it open and look for loose solder connections at the eye.

I'm still using my reliable 3 year old Linksys WRT54GL. It just plain works. ;) I do think your troubles illuminate the very common issue of WiFi and general router performance issues we see in here. You are trying brand new, newer version hardware and sometimes are seeing worse performance

Look for files called strings.txt (there are several of them) in the server directory and subdirectories. The format is pretty straightforward, but you need a text editor that can handle UTF-8 encoding and Unix line endings to edit them. -- usch
