Did you try what happens to your Touch?

it's a progressive jpg, a png or bmp could crash the server more
easilly.

A linux server with no gui and 1G ram it never swaps and i have SBS in
himem setting, nothing else running.

it works on the Touch art is slow to appear 4 seconds, probably would
have gone unnoticed if my server was not an via C7 .

I have not tried the embedded Tiny server it's unfair the hardware can
not run a server imho.

Your app works with art around 1200-px I think (I have a couple of
those), but the art is a square so unsurprisingly the size grows with a
square function 2800 is a lot bigger.

Do you think 1000*1000 or 1200*1200 is ok

Re: [slim] Connecting to local server changes everything?

2011-08-14 Thread Mnyb

Do you have the mysqueezebox.com Integration enabled ?
Then the local server synchronise some settings with mysqueezebox.com
.

I have not experimented with radio presets actually ?

It may very well be that .

1) You have two sets of presets one on mysqueezebox.com and one on the
local server, have you tried creating presets on the local server ?

2) Something blew up when connecting to the local server for the first
time, SBS have been known to be confused and erase random settings when
syncing between mysb.com and local servers .

It may very well be that sbs/mysb.com in it's wisdom considered your
local settings never and actually used them, but as they where spanking
new there was no presets .

Again try to recreate them when on the local server there are only 6
presets.

But if don't see any radio or apps menu's when connected to the local
server you have more serius issues !
Did you get any fault message when entering your mysb.com creds in SBS
?

getting any wierd DNS erros in the server.log ?

If SBS is up and running before the server has a network connection
and dns SBS will never recover and consider the connection broken .

There is a way to test this, when the server is upp and running if you
stop and then start the SBS server again, do you have Radio and app
menus now ?

It turned out that the SBRx in question was misbehaving. When I tried

offending SBRx a kick in the slats and now all three devices can be
transferred back and forth with ease. Really like your pop-up that
asks what you want connected to where.

For your next release perhaps you could consider the following

When Playlist Modification Mode is set to Always Add To End (i.e.
Party mode) could there still be a dialog that pops up to confirm the
action? Perhaps with Play and Play Next greyed out. I'm finding that
guests randomly add spurious tracks to the playlist without realising

My SB3 is now 5 years old and going strong. I believe the most common

 hardly universal.

My Touch is a year and a half old and hasn't had any issues.

I have a transporter, 2 booms, SB3, duet, two controllers, 3 TOUCH
players, and two radios. One boom and the transporter are maybe 4 years
old. I've had only one hardware issue with all the units over the time
I've owned (and they are all used daily except SB3 and duet receiver
that are in the closet, replaced with TOUCH units). My issue was that
the screen in one of the TOUCH units has a horizontal white line across
the display that wouldn't go away. Logitech replaced with no questions
asked.

I've had more hardware issues with CableTV converter boxes, washing
machines, routers, and laptop computers than I've ever had with SB
player hardware.

[slim] Security per Squeezebox?

2011-08-14 Thread joad

Hi, I have been using SlimServer for several years now and I'm very
pleased.

I have over the years gained more and more players, now I have four.
Two radio and two classic.

But now I have a problem, the kids have tow radio one in each room and
think it's fun to control each others Radio from the web-gui.

Is it possible to password protect per player?
Or is there something else I can do to solve my problem? (not educate
children to be kind to each other)

Thanks

not sure, but makes me recall my childhood. When brothers and I did not
behave properly with our toys, first offense was all of us losing access
to said toys for a week. 2nd offense (rare) was all losing access for a
month. Third offense (never occurred, because we weren't that stupid)
was toys given to Goodwill. And in our case a week was a week (no
parental softening after a day or two).

Even if you could lock down the web gui, they could still control the

afraid you'll have to bite the bullet and educate your children to be

Thanks Gary... Your playlist displays in exactly the same way as mine.
But yours is a list of URLs, whereas mine also has #EXTINF lines, with
station information that used to be displayed when I used the old

possible that the #EXTINF info was read by the plugin, and SBS cannot
read it on its own?

Does anyone have a radio playlist with #EXTINF information that they

Re: [slim] Pandora song ratings not working from SBS

2011-08-14 Thread chriscmore

On previous firmware (not sure which), the ratings worked on Pandora by
simply pressing the right button on the IR remote and the SB display
should toggle over to ratings. If it didn't, you needed to press the
now playing button to toggle the display into some other mode and it
would work.

Now, having upgraded to v7.6 my squeezebox no longer appears to have
this functionality. The right button does nothing but bump the display
brightness up temporarily to confirm that it got the signal. Toggling
through the now playing modes do nothing to get to this
functionality.

Pandora is only as good as its ability to rate thumbs up or down its
music algorithms. Any new 7.6 users figure out how to do this, or did
they stupidly delete this feature?

Cheers.

Well with Squeezboxes remote streaming doesn't work anyway, because you
cannot enter DynDNS URLs.

Personally I only use my Android phone for remote streaming where SSH
tunneling is possible.
On iOS there seems to be 'iSSH' but never tried it myself.
In the AppStore description it says that it support port tunneling.

On iOS OpenVPN is much easier though and some routers support it that I
guess that should be the preferred way.

Re: [slim] Hi res audio?

2011-08-14 Thread DennyL

Of course the placebo effect is significant, and I'm sure that there are
more people who would pay extra for HD than there are who can hear the
difference, either because they aren't particularly concentrating on
the music at the time or because of limitations in their equipment,
ears or listening environment. There are many of us who just like to
feel that we are buying the 'best'.

Nevertheless, the CD standard has always been considered by many to be
tight, both in bit depth (16 bit) and in sampling frequency (44.1 kHz).
Reconstructing a 20kHz sine wave from 44.1kHz samples is quite a task,
and it completely keels over as the sine wave approaches 22.05kHz! It
has always struck me that most of the important and interesting
information in a recording is the low-level information, and it uses
only a few of those 16 bits! There are many who believe (me among them)
that CD is never as good as the best vinyl listing experience, but it's
convenient and serviceable much of the time. I buy SACDs when they are
available and I'm interested in a higher technical quality than the old
CD Red Book standard, but I'm not interested in buying Red Book
recordings that have been upsampled so that the vendor can put 96/24 on
the label. I think 96/24 files derived from analogue recordings might be
worthwhile if they are done well.

[slim] Pandora with Default interface

2011-08-14 Thread eschurr

I know this is a simple question and I'm sorry for clogging the forum
with one, but I can't figure it out.

I just switched to the Default interface from Fishbone (my favorite!)
because the latest upgrade no longer supports Fishbone. :) I can't
figure out how to play Pandora from my Squeezebox anymore. Under My
apps it says App Gallery, and if I click on that I get a separate
interface (something I find confusing) and Pandora appears in there,
under my apps, but I can't figure out how to get to my stations and
play them.

Help, please

Re: [slim] Pandora with Default interface

2011-08-14 Thread aubuti

Is App Gallery the _only_ thing listed under My Apps? If you have
already installed the Pandora app then Pandora should also be listed
under My Apps. If you click on Pandora then your first option is
Your Stations.

Fyi, the other interface to which you get redirected when you choose
App Gallery is mysqueezebox.com. You have to use mysqueezebox.com to
install any of the apps such as Pandora. After that you don't need it
as long as you are using a local Squeezebox Server on your pc or NAS.

Re: [slim] Pandora with Default interface

2011-08-14 Thread eschurr

thank you.

App Gallery is the only thing listed under my apps in the Default
interface.

in mysqueezebox.com, it appears that Pandora is an installed app for
me. the only button i see is uninstall, which implies that it is
installed. and it indicates that I'm a premium member.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox in sleep mode

2011-08-14 Thread epoch1970

The plugin Server Power Control can do that.
There is a discussion about it in the 1/3 party plugins sub forum of
this forum.

The easier configuration by far is to set the OS power management
preferences to never sleep and have the plugin do the power
management.

On mysb.com, is Pandora listed under the My Apps tab? (ie, not only
under the App Gallery tab).

Have you double-checked to confirm that your mysb.com credentials are
entered in SBS? Look on the mysb.com tab in SBS Settings. I would think
that you wouldn't need to re-enter them just because you changed skins,
but that's the first place I would check.

That's not what the Nyquist-Shannon theorem says.
Do you hear 22.05 kHz or even 20 kHz sine waves, by the way?
Give the 'Bink Audio Test CD' (http://binkster.net/extras.shtml) a
try...

Re: [slim] DVD-Audio 5.1 on Touch

2011-08-14 Thread Mike Sargent

Sinkdrain;640727 Wrote:
I've been googling for awhile now and just keep getting conflicting
results. I have Porcupine Tree's DVD-A in 5.1 which I would love to
turn into a flac and play it through the Touch (multichannel version).
Is this possible? I've read about two programs Dvd-a explorer and dvd-a
extractor. Which one is the easiest to use? Any settings I need to be
aware of? I have the squeezebox Touch.

I've just been doing some testing of this and here are some
conclusions:

1) If you convert the multichannel DVD-Audio to FLAC, you Touch will
only play the left and right channels. All other channels are ignored
(try playing a channel identification track [ you know: Front Left,
Center, Front Right, Surround Right, Surround Left, Subwoofer ] and
you'll clearly hear this.

2) If you convert to WMA Lossless it will play some tracks, but also
seems to die on other tracks (limited testing, but the first MC track I
tried failed). If you do get a track to play, it will output sound for
all of the source channels. However, the output is stereo only, so you
won't get back any surround effects, even if you enable Dolby PL-IIx
decoding. If they had taken the C, SR, SL channels and mixed them into
FR and FL using the PL-IIx encoding matrix, most mutilchannel receivers
would do a fair job of resurecting the original multichannel mix. But at
least you do get output from all 6 source channels (if it works).

Anyone else interested in multichannel?

Mike

Re: [slim] DVD-Audio 5.1 on Touch

2011-08-14 Thread Mnyb

Spdif does not support discrete multichannel, so you would have to use
DTS to get it out of the Touch.

Spdif or toslink can carry 2ch of pcm 24/192 or bitstreams with DD or
DTS .

i to would love to rip my 100 dvda and retire my dvda player .

We have to wait untill a squeezebox with hdmi is avaible.
