[slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
Gather round kids, story time. I have purchased the following (in order,)a squeezebox boom, squeezebox duet, squeezebox radio and a squeezebox2. The Boom was my first Squeezebox I purchased. It wasn't cheap, but I wasn't disappointed. It was worth the money. It has a slightly clumsy way of getting stuff done, but it did what it was supposed to it did it very very well. Then I purchased my Duet - this was great, but I didn't use it as much as my Boom. It was missing something, a type of Love. (I don't know what it is exactly, but the Boom has it, and the Duet doesn't). It is not worth the money. I like the device, but not happy, or delighted. Then I purchased the Radio. It was worse. I mean, it looks great, it functions as expected (most of the time). The battery pack is neat (so neat, it shouldn't be optional). I like the handle and the round look, but it's still missing something (love?). I'm happy with the purchase, but still not delighted. As a user who has had many years of enjoyment, my most recent addition has delivered the most delight to me - i.e. Slim Devices Squeezebox2. It's easy to use, it offers everything a device in it's class should. It does what it's supposed to. I does its job very well. It's simple, yet delivers much more than I expected. I am happy with the purchase. I am delighted. It is old. It isn't good looking (by modern standards). But I don't care. Take all my other squeezeboxes away, leave me my Squeezebox2. I'll stay happy. To the pioneers who were the first - thank you. The Squeezebox2 has delivered the most delight to me so far. I love it. I love it. I really really love it. There are no words to express how I feel, there really isn't. I am just so very delighted. Something has changed Slim Devices. I don't know how things are internally at Logitech, but get back that love. The POST to 195.24.232.205 is nothing to do with either JRMC nor Whitebear, so the ensuing discussion about it is in fact irrelevant. Your capture shows zero HTTP POST transactions on the wire between JRMC and Whitebear. I also got your Whitebear log (thank you again). It also shows zero HTTP POST transactions being received by Whitebear. Summary: based on these two logs, there is nothing going over the wire, and there is nothing being received by Whitebear. So (as I said before) either a) JRMC is not sending anything, or b) the computer on which JRMC is running has some software running on it that is blocking JRMC's traffic and preventing it from getting on the wire. The only things that I can suggest now is: 1) Talk to JRMC people to see is there is any way to log what JRMC is trying to send out, and what happens in the process. 2) Turn OFF off all potential wire traffic blockers; be they a/v programs, firewall programs, internet security programs, traffic monitors, filters, you name it. I think that by navigating into the folder where the FLAC+CUE album is stored, the database attempts to update but doesn't do so correctly, according to the bug that Mnyb highlighted above. No problems here. I have the server installed from the Windows installer as well as one running from the Perl code on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (not R2). Does it crash on its own, just sitting idle, or when you're doing something in particular? Anything in the server.log? Are you running any 3rd party plugins? If so, disable them and try again. Re: [slim] Time is off
Touch can run a dowscaled server version when faced with attached media . so theoretically it could be your only server. but it does not have the cpu to do this is any good way if your already content with running the full version of server , forget about it . the server has it issues, but it's plugin architechture and flexibility has some apeal. But the Tiny version have none of that, you get the downsides of sbs/lms without enjouying any of it's better sides . On topic, wonder if not the clock is simply derived from the cpu clock, this can vary a lot . the clock on computers can be anything from really good to very bad depending on motherboard etc . you often do not notice as adjustment is done frequently and automatic. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. If you have LMS on your PC then you don't have to have a LMS music database, hence no scanning. An empty folder is all that is required for the music folder address. MediaMonkey can manage your music database and it tells Squeezebox what to play. LMS is still required and anyway it has useful plugins that MediaMonkey doesn't. LMS on a Linux NAS (e.g. ReadyNAS DUO) does require a managed music database due to file format issues between the windows OS and Linux. Try MediaMonkey(basic)/MonkeySqueeze for yourself and see the advantages of playing your music collection on Squeezebox using these freeware programs. The official release is here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/browse/item/monkeysqueeze/ Also try the MonkeySqueeze Development site for the latest beta which has playlist sync: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19t=59907 Thanks. The problem is that from MediaMonkey forums and your messages, there are annoying delays (I use mainly flac files ...) with this plugin. I must say I don't feel like being a beta tester like with LMS. If I have to install LMS, start it with an empty database, and so on, I guess it will be much easier to run directly MediaMonkey with a smartphone application, and replace the Touch by a good USB dac ... With a small silent and nice Nettop like Asrock ones, it may be the perfect solution. I am more inclined to check how easily MediaMonkey can be controlled with a smartphone, than mixing Squeezeboxes, LMS and MediaMonkey. At this point It seems to me that good solution are - LMS get decent files selection and library management, and I can stick it. - LMS doesn't and I have to completely get rid of LMS If I have to get rid LMS - Squeezeboxes can be used without LMS at all (I can accept TinySBS if it is improved, there are simple bugzilla bugs to fix for that) and I keep the Touch without LMS - If not possible, I replace the Touch by a good USB dac and forget about Squeezeboxes. The mere point here is that Logitech is a hardware company, not a software company. They make money with squeezeboxes, not with LMS (which is free). A smart manager should understand that a squeezebox Touch should be seen as a network soundcard from any PC music software, or as a standalone device running an optimized TinySBS. If people want to mess with LMS and its weird scanning, it is there, they can use it, but it should be only another not mandatory option. -- nicolas75 nicolas75's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15823 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91532 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes it can suddenly drop of the radar, but for me it imidietly reconects so I experience no ill effect. Some routers have problems with wifi devices with power saving features , if you have similar issues with phones or the squeezebox controller , you have one of those . An experiment connect the iPad to it's charger does it still drop out ? Afiak it does not power save when connected to the charger. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Yeah, it would happen a lot with my iPod touch also, but not my husband's iPod touch. And when my sister was here with her iPad, she would have to turn wifi off and on all the time too. And it never happened while I was on vacation. So it's got to be something with my router--I just don't know what setting to change. I run tomato firmware so there are a lot of settings, but not very well documented. Anyway, the new antenna did help a lot. -- MeSue SUE 1 Duet | 2 Booms | 1 Radio | 1 Touch | 1 SB2 HP MediaSmart EX470 | Logitech Media Server 7.7.1 | iPod Touch iPad w/ iPeng Find me on 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue) | 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/suechastain) | 'Rhapsody' (http://www.rhapsody.com/members/mesue) MeSue's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=985 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91708 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Sorry, but I'm not able to do that. When I click on the attachment link (either directly in your message, or by going to the bug and getting to the download link that way), the browser visibly loads something, but then nothing apparently happens. Example on my linux server a cue sheet refering to file foo.flac would not work if the file name is Foo.flac I think my problem exists regardless of how the server sees the flac+cue files. I reinstalled 7.7 on OS X (Lion) and ran a full scan. The file names in the .cue files are correct and the log indicates that the .cue file is recognized and is able to find the flac file. All looks fine in the logs, except that when I navigate to the album in the library, it shows the artwork, the album duration, and a string that says Empty, with no tracks.
