No problem. You got a bug ironed out and I got extensive support from

Clock drift for network devices is common. Don't connect your laptop
to any network for a few weeks and that laptop's clock can also drift.
These are network appliances, not atomic clocks, so connection to a
network is necessary for certain aspects like accurate time display.

With your new MySB home menu item you are three clicks to accurate time
on the Touch, as often as you wish. :)

[slim] Thank you Slim Devices.

2011-11-17 Thread sunnyshirazian

Gather round kids, story time.

I have purchased the following (in order,)a squeezebox boom, squeezebox
duet, squeezebox radio and a squeezebox2.

The Boom was my first Squeezebox I purchased. It wasn't cheap, but I
wasn't disappointed. It was worth the money. It has a slightly clumsy
way of getting stuff done, but it did what it was supposed to it did
it very very well.

Then I purchased my Duet - this was great, but I didn't use it as much
as my Boom. It was missing something, a type of Love. (I don't know
what it is exactly, but the Boom has it, and the Duet doesn't). It is
not worth the money. I like the device, but not happy, or delighted.

Then I purchased the Radio. It was worse. I mean, it looks great, it
functions as expected (most of the time). The battery pack is neat (so
neat, it shouldn't be optional). I like the handle and the round look,
but it's still missing something (love?). I'm happy with the purchase,
but still not delighted.

As a user who has had many years of enjoyment, my most recent addition
has delivered the most delight to me - i.e. Slim Devices Squeezebox2.
It's easy to use, it offers everything a device in it's class should.
It does what it's supposed to. I does its job very well. It's simple,
yet delivers much more than I expected. I am happy with the purchase. I
am delighted.

It is old. It isn't good looking (by modern standards). But I don't
care. Take all my other squeezeboxes away, leave me my Squeezebox2.
I'll stay happy.

To the pioneers who were the first - thank you.

The Squeezebox2 has delivered the most delight to me so far. I love
it.

I love it.

I really really love it.

There are no words to express how I feel, there really isn't. I am just
so very delighted.

Something has changed Slim Devices. I don't know how things are
internally at Logitech, but get back that love.

Anyway,

Thank you Slim Devices.

The topology is a bit complex... (= indicates Ethernet except between
the PowerLine devices)

Internet = Router with WiFi = SBS PC
The same Router with WiFi = Switch = MC PC
Same Switch = Access Point for WiFi
Same Switch = PowerLine = PowerLine = SB Reciever

And that is about it. No TV tuner.

Just to test, I switch off the Access Point. No luck.

There is a difference between shuffle and random play .

Shuffle just shuffles the files in the current playlist and will start

on settings.

Random play can sometimes find the same song but it is less likely if

nothing to do with either JRMC nor Whitebear, so the ensuing discussion

either a) JRMC is not sending anything, or b) the computer on which
JRMC is running has some software running on it that is blocking JRMC's
traffic and preventing it from getting on the wire.

The only things that I can suggest now is:

1) Talk to JRMC people to see is there is any way to log what JRMC is
trying to send out, and what happens in the process.

2) Turn OFF off all potential wire traffic blockers; be they a/v
programs, firewall programs, internet security programs, traffic
monitors, filters, you name it. And turn ON all streaming and sharing
options in WMP12 and Windows. And try again. STRONG WARNING: whilst you
are doing all this, please unplug your cable modem from the external
network!!

I presume it is. You might want to set your wireshark filter to:

net 192.168.1.0/24 and http

to capture only http traffic on this network.

The switches are essentially no-ops here. The relevant network appears
to be a single net. It seems all the devices are on the 192.168.1/255
network, correct?

If you're uncertain about the PowerLine adapters, you could move the
Receiver to the switch.

Still, only smarter devices (i.e. not the layer 2 switch) would block
POST packets, but not others.

After further testing I think this is the root of the problem that I
was experiencing (CUE file information not updating with a 'new and
changed' scan). I think that by navigating into the folder where the
FLAC+CUE album is stored, the database attempts to update but doesn't
do so correctly, according to the bug that Mnyb highlighted above.
However, that particular file then no longer shows up as new or
changed, so a quick database rescan doesn't look at it again to parse
the CUE file correctly.

So provided I don't browse my Music Folder to the new files before
doing a 'new and changed' scan, new files should be handled correctly.

No problems here. I have the server installed from the Windows installer
as well as one running from the Perl code on Windows Server 2003 SP2
(not R2).

Does it crash on its own, just sitting idle, or when you're doing
something in particular? Anything in the server.log?

Are you running any 3rd party plugins? If so, disable them and try
again. If it's then stable, add the plugins back in gradually and try
to determine which one is causing the problem.

I am not familiar with MediaMonkey addons, so I may have missed
something obvious ...

I run LMS 7.7.0 and MediaMonkey 4.0.0.1459 on the same PC with Windows

I downloaded monkeysqueezev200_%281%29.mmip file from
http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/browse/item/monkeysqueeze/

I could find any help file or user guide.

I install the addon, and restarted, a small LMS icon appeared
(apparently nothing else), with tooltip Enable/Disable MonkeySqueeze

Each time I click on this icon, I get an error.

I think that i must have caused some confusion. The 5 minutes off is
not anything recent. The computer/server has been that way for a long
time. Up until now I used a duet (which after several years died),
then a transporter. My wife got me a Touch which when off will be
displaying the time. For the first time, the time is more relevant.
In other words, the time drifting is not recent. For all I know, when
my son built the system about 3 years ago the time might have been off
or it drifted over a 3 year period.

Touch can run a dowscaled server version when faced with attached media
.
so theoretically it could be your only server.

but it does not have the cpu to do this is any good way if your already
content with running the full version of server , forget about it .

the server has it issues, but it's plugin architechture and flexibility
has some apeal.
But the Tiny version have none of that, you get the downsides of
sbs/lms without enjouying any of it's better sides .

On topic, wonder if not the clock is simply derived from the cpu clock,
this can vary a lot . the clock on computers can be anything from really
good to very bad depending on motherboard etc .
you often do not notice as adjustment is done frequently and automatic.

Glad you got it working. Remember V2.0.0 doesn't have playlist sync so
lag(buffering) can affect how the songs play.

The current beta does have playlist sync however. A MonkeySqueeze beta
won't cause your system to fall over or wipe your database, it's just
an interface script. Trust me ;)

can't recall which version, but I'm pretty sure it may have been 7.6.0
or higher that allowed for menu customization.

Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.

2011-11-17 Thread xio

Welcome newbie ;-)

I bought my first SLiMP3 about 8 yrs ago (guesswork, I didn't google
it). Was a toss up between that an Audiotron(!). Still have it, in a
box somewhere. Amazed at howit just worked, straight out of the box.
Since then, an sb1, sb1g, sb2, 2xsb3, 2 radios, a boom a duet later I
still have most of them, in daily use. 99.9% of problems have been
caused by my meddling or being an early adopter. Been a great ride, I
still love them, but can't help but think we're in the twilight years
now...

Enjoy!

Another suggestion, don't know if it can be done.
I tried but it doesn't work.

When a Squeezebox Touch is running TinySC, could MonkeySqueeze connect
to TinySC with Squeezebox Touch IP Address for LMS address ?

In that case, LMS could be totally wiped.

Go to the MonkeySqueeze addons site Version history and download
Version 1.5.0.110814. It was the last version to communicate with the
SS or LMS CLI so it may work with TinySC.

http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/browse/item/monkeysqueeze/

Uninstall the present version of MonkeySqueeze (see user guide) before
installing V1.5. Make sure you run MediaMonkey in Admin mode before
install. Just remember it has reduced functionality and anyway this is
a test to see what happens.

Let me know what happens please as I do not have access to a Touch.

Having tried various 'internet' radio systems, I've got to say the SB
route is the best on offer! Beats all the others into the dust. The
media streaming is also excellent, at least for an old duffer like me!

Logitech just don't push their products and are missing a big market of
frustrated 'other' system users. I was an early adopter of Reciva
radios - struggled for years with poor firmware, pathetic support ...
finally, I discovered SB. More than satisfied.

[slim] Squeezebox Boom Suddenly Unrecognisable by Remote

2011-11-17 Thread Martin.gillies

First of all feel free to move this post to the most suitable place - I
wasnt sure where that was.

My set up:

Squeezebox Server 7.6.1 (Run from my laptop)
Squeezebox Boom
Apple iPad with iPeng installed
Linksys WAG120N Wireless Router

When I first start up my laptop, and squeezebox server is started at
login, everything runs smoothly and I can select what music/radio I
want to listen to using iPeng.
However, after about half an hour, iPeng suddenly cannot see the player
anymore but the player is still connected to the server and playing
music. iPeng is obviously useless by this point and the only way to fix
this seems to be to switch my router off and back on.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? It's never been like
this before and although it's not a major problem it is very
frustrating.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

This is not totally correct. If you have LMS on your PC then you don't
have to have a LMS music database, hence no scanning. An empty folder
is all that is required for the music folder address. MediaMonkey can
manage your music database and it tells Squeezebox what to play. LMS is
still required and anyway it has useful plugins that MediaMonkey
doesn't. LMS on a Linux NAS (e.g. ReadyNAS DUO) does require a managed
music database due to file format issues between the windows OS and
  Linux.

Try MediaMonkey(basic)/MonkeySqueeze for yourself and see the
advantages of playing your music collection on Squeezebox using these
freeware programs. The official release is here:
  http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/browse/item/monkeysqueeze/

Also try the MonkeySqueeze Development site for the latest beta which
  has playlist sync:
  http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19t=59907

 Thanks.

The problem is that from MediaMonkey forums and your messages, there
are annoying delays (I use mainly flac files ...) with this plugin.
I must say I don't feel like being a beta tester like with LMS.
If I have to install LMS, start it with an empty database, and so on, I
guess it will be much easier to run directly MediaMonkey with a
smartphone application, and replace the Touch by a good USB dac ...
With a small silent and nice Nettop like Asrock ones, it may be the
 perfect solution.
I am more inclined to check how easily MediaMonkey can be controlled
with a smartphone, than mixing Squeezeboxes, LMS and MediaMonkey.

At this point It seems to me that good solution are
 - LMS get decent files selection and library management, and I can
 stick it.
 - LMS doesn't and I have to completely get rid of LMS

If I have to get rid LMS
 - Squeezeboxes can be used without LMS at all (I can accept TinySBS if
it is improved, there are simple bugzilla bugs to fix for that) and I
 keep the Touch without LMS
 - If not possible, I replace the Touch by a good USB dac and forget
 about Squeezeboxes.

The mere point here is that Logitech is a hardware company, not a
 software company.
They make money with squeezeboxes, not with LMS (which is free).
A smart manager should understand that a squeezebox Touch should be
seen as a network soundcard from any PC music software, or as a
standalone device running an optimized TinySBS.

If people want to mess with LMS and its weird scanning, it is there,
they can use it, but it should be only another not mandatory option.

Yes it can suddenly drop of the radar, but for me it imidietly
reconects so I experience no ill effect.

Some routers have problems with wifi devices with power saving features
, if you have similar issues with phones or the squeezebox controller ,
you have one of those .

An experiment connect the iPad to it's charger does it still drop out

Afiak it does not power save when connected to the charger.

Then it looks like yet another bug .

I'm using the Artist / Album route, not Music Folder. If I navigate
using the Music Folder, I can see the flac and cue files, but they're
not links and I can't click on them. I do get the add to favorites
icon, and can add the cue file to the Favorites list. Under that I'm
able to click the link, but I end up with this error:

There was an error loading the remote feed for : (Cannot request
non-HTTP URL
file:///Volumes/Data%202/Music/Music%20For%20Server/FLAC/Alison%20Krauss%20+%20Union%20Station/Alison%20Krauss%20+%20Union%20Station%20Live%20(Disc%201%20of%202)/Alison%20Krauss%20And%20Union%20Station%20-%20Live%20(Disc%201%20of%202).cue)

I should pass all this info along to Logitech as a bug. All this seems
somewhat worse than the bug you posted.
