Duet Receiver cannot play AAC natively so the stream gets transcoded by your SBS/LMS server. There are some AAC stream which the Radio and Touch firmware cannot play. [slim] connection reset by remote host
I've done some google searches on this, and also checked the forums...but I didn't see anything definitive. Have had three squeezeboxes for coming up on three years now, and I don't remember seeing this message come up until recently. Around three weeks ago, I migrated everything over to a new (much faster) computer, installed the newest version of LMS, and have been getting the connection reset by remote host message fairly frequently. I have also been doing a significant number of library rescans, while I shuffle various files around, and doing some re-tagging to clean stuff up. I will get a few hours of glitch-free listening, until the message pops up for the first time, and from then on it will appear more frequently with the music continually dropping out, or skipping randomly to another track. When I do a hard reboot of the computer, it seems to solve the problem for awhile, but invariably it eventually appears again. Signal strength on all three units is between 75-99%. Any ideas/suggestions? Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !
Lyrics is a mess. I investigated a bit around the issue when I did the Lyrics screen saver for iPeng for iPad and I believe the only way to do it is to have a full licensing scheme in place which also monitors from where the Lyrics are being requested. The problem is that there are few sites who have _global_ rights for Lyrics. Lyrics are authors rights which are usually being sold to record companies doing the original publishing and then managed by them. They do sublicense, of course, bu usually on a per-country-basis. Now since RIAA et al have little else to do than to hunt down what they regard as pirates on the net and they can't prevent non-commercial, Wiki-style sites from publishing Lyrics on the net in some legislations they now focus on Apps using that stuff. For Apps, they don't have to sue down the provider, they just write an unfriendly e-mail to Apple or Google and then Apple or Google take your App down and ask you to provide proof that you have a license to that content in all the countries where you are selling the App. The Lyrics Apps who have disappeard from the App Store that way are legion. So even if you do buy an expensive License from Musixmatch or whoever, you still can't be sure that it has global coverage and you might have to limit sale of your App in some regions (because you have almost no chance to regulate the functionality per region). You might have a better chance of not getting excluded (because through the license you provide revenue to the record companies which they don't want to stop you from doing) but there still is no guarantee. It's almost certain you won't succeed with any free license. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80553 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

patience both for getting things setup, and for the analysis of your tracks, which can take a verrry long time. Well, exactly. So I'd better read up first and pull the trigger later. :-) Following your advice, I looked harder for some discussion threads and found a couple of recent, lengthy ones, so that should help. It's good to hear an endorsement of MusicIP. The concept sounds great and like the kind of thing I would enjoy, too. But I've been wondering how well it works. In the end I suppose I'll have to just try it and see for myself. -- dpotts dpotts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92740 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] MusicIP documentation?
I (and many others here) think it works great. And one of the very nice touches is that you can tailor how different or similar the tracks MusicIP playlist are compared to the seed track(s) that you use to generate the list. There are two parameters you set, Mix Style and Mix Variety. You can also set whether or not the mix should mix genres. So if you don't like the mixes you get, experiment with those settings. I typically like MusicIP mixes better than Last.fm or Apple Genius mixes, and find them comparable to some of the more interesting Pandora stations I have cultivated. The MusicIP playlists seem to hang together better musically, and fewer completely atrocious tracks sneak in simply because I don't have many in my library. (Then again, MusicIP isn't as good at music discovery because it is limited to one's own library.) It's a real shame that there isn't a MusicIP successor yet for the SB world. People say good things about Mood Agent, but there's no SB interface yet (I'm not sure if the Mood Agent people have released an API). -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92740 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] MusicIP documentation?
To add to aubuti's information, there is some good documentation on the SugarCube Spicefly site - http://spicefly.com/ I suggest that to start off you let MusicIP analyze just a section of your music - this will give you an idea of the total time needed to analyze your whole library and also let you try out some mixes on the analyzed songs. Don't hesitate to post back with questions, as aubuti says I (and many others here) think it works great. -- Wirrunna A camel is a racehorse designed by a committee. Actually I didn't know myself, that these items could be reordered, will start to sort my own favorites now :) PS: wow one can even create folders for favorites - wonderful! And if you're using Sbs/LMS you can create folders for your favorites as well (I have folders for Rock Radio, Jazz Radio, Country Radio, Talk Radio, Public/World Radio, etc. I can also add SiriusXM stations, pandora stations, etc. to these folder favorites. Makes for a nice organized favorites appearance. I also save the LMS favorites as an OPML file, place it out on a bit of free webspace provided by my home internet provider, then use a URL for this file as a favorite within mysqueezebox.com. [slim] Kindle Fire vs. Nook Tablet as Controller
I would like to purchase one of these but I can't decide which. I've played with the Nook at my local BN and liked it. The Fire is cheaper but I haven't experienced one hands-on yet. I know I'll use it to control my Squeezeboxes. (Having implemented Soundcheck's TT mod my Touch no longer has an operable screen or IR.) If you are using one of these devices with your Squeezebox, what do you think about the experience (pros/cons)? Re: [slim] Kindle Fire vs. Nook Tablet as Controller
I have the NT and it works very well as a SB controller. I'm using the free Logitech app right now and I'm having no troubles with it. As to which one would be better, I'm not sure. The NT entered the market as a potential sweetheart tablet. It was quickly rooted and showed signs of having a future in the Android open source developers' community - even with the locked bootloader. BN recently issued an OS update that closed the open holes which were used to root it. Of course a workaround was found by the community, but it does not bode well for the future of the device. BN is demonstrating a very closed attitude toward a device that (for God's sake) they trademarked as a Nook TABLET. I understand their POV, but if they wanted it to be a glorified Nook Color 2 they shouldn't have called it a tablet. I've seen the Kindle Fire in the store, and it looks nice. Apart from the difference in user interface I think the NT seems to run slightly more smoothly, and (IMO) videos look better on the NT. The NT has a great screen; it also has real hard buttons where the KF does not. To me the NT also feels better in the hand. From what I've read Amazon has released an OS update which has improved their UI a bit, but also has closed some of the access which allowed it to be rooted. Don't know to what degree as I don't own one. I have until Jan 31st to return the NT. If the gang at XDA Developers haven't figured out by then how to permanently get around the NT restrictons I may return it. I don't want to have to keep checking in every time BN releases an OS update, hoping the team will find a way past it. The future of the Fire may be the same. The only diff is that Amzon has a much better app store than BN right now, and I don't see anything being done by BN to entice a whole bunch of app developers to generate NT apps for their own store. There are other 7 tabs which are more open, so maybe that might be the way to go if you don't want to get on the will they finally crack it or not fo good merry-go-round. Probably more info than you wanted. -- tonyptony tonyptony's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92754 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
