Re: [slim] iPeng 2.0 Teaser Thread
Wow, and I thought iPeng just couldn't be improved anymore? Maybe that's just my lack of imagination... :D Still too early to tell since we don't know anything about the new version, but great news that there is something new coming along. Will it work on 3GS/4 and 5, or will it be 5 only? Btw, if I need to buy a new app because it's iOS6, I completely understand. I bought the app 3 years ago, that's 0,007 per day. Meanwhile the app has just been improved over and over again, without any additional costs. Ok, including the app for my gf's phone, the iPad app, playback and the app I bought for my sister it comes to 4 cents a day. But that's still a ridiculous amount for the iPhone app I use the most, by far. hvb83's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39615 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96679 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SqueezePlay for Windows with ASIO, DirectSound, WASAPI and WDMKS device support.
I'm having problems with this. I have a WinXP PC with Squeezeplay, ASIO4ALL and M2Tech USB converter. I usually leave the PC running 24/7, but I shut down Squeezeplay since when I leave it on, it sometimes crashes and freezes Windows. I set the variables USEPADEVICE and USEPAHOSTAPI to the values showed by Squeezeslave. After a PC reboot everything worked fine. Then, if I shut down Squeezeplay and start it, say, next day again, eveything still looks fine (Squeezeplay activates the ASIO driver etc, connects to LMS) but there is no sound. I have to reboot the PC and then all is OK again. Any ideas? the linked amazon deal is strange. The picture is for a small gt7725 that has onboard radeon. The FireMV would be a double wide. HP ThinPro GT is a customized debian lenny. They are basic PCs with an external power brick. I don't remember if they have a fan (The FireMV has one, but i forgot about the CPU). Your Problem is the mass storage. The have in integrated ide44 flash modul with 1GB. You can't add any internal drive. So you would need to add an external USB drive. Performance wise they would be fine. Noise level is fine. Re: [slim] iPeng 2.0 Teaser Thread
No, it will of course not only work on iPhone 5. iPhone 5 and iOS 6 just provided some motivation and also eased some pains: 1. There was the NEED for a redesign of at least the NowPlaying screen to make it use on iPhone 5 and to use the added space 2. Since support for iPhone 5 and iOS 6 forces you to drop support for ARM6 based devices (iPhone 3G - NOT 3GS, that still works - and iPod touch 2nd Gen., you can't compile for them with the new development kit) there is no reason to not use iOS 5 as a baseline requirement anymore (all ARM7 based devices can run iOS 5) which allows for FAR more customization than iOS 4. That header bar you are seeing in the screen shot would either not have been possible at all under iOS 4 or it would at least have been an utter PIA to do everything yourself. So... Everything that's still supported by Apple (iPhone from 3GS, iPod touch from 3rd Gen) will work with the new iPeng but you will need at least iOS 5. It looks a _little_ bit better on iOS 6, there have been some design changes to standard UI elements in 6 that fit the new design better. It definitely looks better on retina displays (obviously), all main menu icons are now available in retina resolution. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96679 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

pippin, apart from UI considerations, what's the current state on these features? 1) Replaygain 2) Crossfade 3) Playback of different formats (FLAC, Ogg, etc., giving MP3 and AAC for granted) 4) Caching of songs for mobile use with the playback function (similar to what iSub does with Subsonic) It might be that everything has already been implemented perfectly. But I haven't been on top of recent upgrades and I'd like to clear things up before asking useless questions (so I basically round them all up here ;) ). gorman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96679 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] iPeng 2.0 Teaser Thread
gorman wrote: pippin, apart from UI considerations, what's the current state on these features? No new features... well, except one carryover from iPad... in this release. 1) Replaygain 2) Crossfade That's the same thing. It's a bit of a tradeoff, it will make other things worse, we are considering it 3) Playback of different formats (FLAC, Ogg, etc., giving MP3 and AAC for granted) ??? All of these have always worked natively in iPeng. The only one that doesn't (and never will) is WMA. No other formats are supported by the server so there is no point in supporting them in iPeng. OK, mp2, but that's so backwards and rarely used that we are not going to do our own codec implementation just for that. Transcode it. 4) Caching of songs for mobile use with the playback function (similar to what iSub does with Subsonic) You can't do it like that with the Squeezebox server, would have to have a server instance running on the device. I want to do a local caching/syncing, but that's a HUGE amount of work and there are still other things to be done before that. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as with Android, where you can just throw it into the device's own library. With Subsonic, the whole system implementation is made for remote access, with the Squeezebox, it's not. One example: it's a total PIA to setup the stream again in the same place (and has a 50% chance of succeeding) once you lose the control connection to the server, making too much caching pointless. So an offline mode will require a completely separate playback and control logic and that in turn means you need additional information you don't process when using the server. It's really a different player then. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96679 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Squeezebox Touch can't connect to Logitech Media Server on PC
Hi I recently bought my first Squeezebox: a Touch. It connects to the internet and mysqueezebox.com fine, but I can't get it to connect to Logitech Media Server on my PC. My setup is the following: Arris Touchstone cable modem (provided by ISP) with wired connection to a TP-LINK WR1043ND wireless router. The SBT is connected to the router via Ethernet cable; the PC has a wireless connection to the router. I'm running firmware version 7.7.2 r9663 on the SBT and LMS version 7.7.2 - r33893 on Windows XP SP3. Guided by threads on this forum I've tried disabling Windows Firewall and Sophos Antivirus, disabling DHCP on the router and assigning static IP addresses, connecting SBT wirelessly and via cable, resetting to factory settings on the SBT, rebooting the router and SBT, and changing the LMS HTTP port number. Unfortunately nothing worked, so I'm getting stuck on ideas here... Could my router be blocking the necessary ports? How can I check? Or is it simply a software / firmware version problem? My SBT is telling me: Settings-Advanced-Diagnostics-Server info: Mysqueezebox.com 46.137.90.12 (this changes frequently) Ping OK TCP port 3483 OK TCP port 9000 OK Mysqueezebox.com Registered Logitech Media Server not connected Library name not connected Ping not connected TCP port 3483 not connected TCP port 9000 not connected Ethernet info: IP address 192.168.1.101 IP subnet 255.255.255.0 IP gateway 192.168.1.1 DNS server 192.168.1.1 On the LMS Control Panel I have: Diagnostics Tab: Logitech Media Server LMS:Running Server IP: 192.168.1.100 Port 3483 (slimproto): OK Port 9001 (HTTP): OK Port 9090 (CLI):OK mysqueezebox.com Server IP Address: 176.34.103.114 Ping: OK Port 3483 (slimproto): OK Port 9000 (HTTP): OK And on the Information tab: Logitech Media Server Status Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2 - r33893 @ Wed Mar 14 05:47:42 PDT 2012 Hostname: Whatever Server IP Address: 192.168.1.100 Server HTTP Port Number: 9001 Operating system: Windows XP - EN - cp1252 Platform Architecture: 586 Perl Version: 5.14.1 - MSWin32-x86-multi-thread Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1) Total Players Recognized: 0 My router is on IP 192.168.1.1, the cable modem is on 192.168.100.1. For people that already have all DAC capacity they ever need I suggest a novelty a digital, out only box ,spdif,ToS,USB,hdmi small form-factor, not obscenely expensive as that is not necessary for a good enough digital transport . And the analog aficionados would want one with built in high end DAC . And what about a good headphone output in some model ? Great news Can I ask one question that always has been in my mind since the beggining of iPeng app? Could we be able to watch covers in the folders mode? I can see covers of CDs in almost all views into the app, except in folders mode, despite all folders have folder.jpg inside it... Re: [slim] Android Controller App
I've installed squeezebox controller app on android tablet. on the first run it shows the license agreement, but I agree button is not working. Back button is also unresponsive and the app can only be killed from task manager. I edited SQLite config (app_database\localstorage\file__0.localstorage) and set eulaAccepted to true. I've got past license agreement, but none of UI buttons are working. tablet is china Cube U19GT, Android 4.0.3. Tried latest 1.1.4 and previous 1.1.3 controller app with the same effect. I've reported a bug at bugtracker but seems that bugtracker is dead (( any ideas? [slim] Radio Functions missing from LMS
Very odd. Yesterday I had a number of different options under the radio heading in LMS, today all that is left are some plug ins such as JazzFM, BBC IPlayer and NPR and that's it. The Tune In URL is there, but the option to search by radio station name is missing. Has anything happened to cause this? The only thing that has changed on my setup, is that I have replaced my router because I am using a different ISP. Could this affect how LMS works? Also when using iPeng, if I try and access App Gallery it is saying Couldn't resolve IP address for www.mysqueezebox.com. norderney's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96691 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've got it! When does it hit the app store? :) If I knew that, I would already hold it back. http://reviewtimes.shinydevelopment.com/ I submitted it yesterday, so based on that trend there's a chance it sees the store next weekend if all goes well. If not, then probably sometime until the weekend thereafter. But no, that's not the question. I'm happy if nobody asks, because the answer would be unfortunately not, maybe with iOS 7 alexj700 wrote: Could we be able to watch covers in the folders mode? There is no artwork info for folders. I briefly considered drilling down into the folder and grab the first artwork I find but the performance of the server is so bad that that would risk bringing the whole thing down on some systems and certainly causing stuttering playback with bigger folders on all systems. There's already an issue when just using the CLI API to play a whole folder so that I had to optionally introduce the native folder mode which doesn't show artwork at all. The problem is that whenever you browse into a folder, that folder gets scanned, if you do that on a lot of folders to retrieve artwork, it's like doing a full rescan on the server process while using the server at the same time. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96679 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm not really complaining, just trying make sure you don't forget this. I take extra time to tag songs with the multiple artists (when they have multiple artist), so I think this would be a good feature. Re: [slim] iPeng 2.0 Teaser Thread
I don't forget it, but it's one of the biggest changes I could make to iPeng internally and it requires a lot of testing. Actually my experience with testing hasn't been too good recently. I have a few beta testers that report a lot of issues but they have only a few setups and this would require regression testing with server versions all the way back to 7.3 and there is zero documentation about the expected behavior on all of these versions. The problem is not the artists field but that if I switch the queries _everything_ I get as a player status will come in a different format. Alarms, playlists, player states, special buttons, everything. The likelihood of breaking something in iPeng's basic functionality and only learning about it at the customer is huge. Not the kind of changes you want to make with a major release focussed at design. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96679 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It is a Xeon E31275 @ 3.40GHz (so 4 cores, 8 threads) with 16GB of RAM. My primary disk, the one that stores the cache is an Intel 510 SSD. I was thinking I was I/O bound so I moved the cache to a RAM disk but that did not speed it up at all, so it is not an I/O issue. I'll dig through that thread and post the debug info when I get a chance. It sounds like turning off `musicbrainz tags' and maybe `Startup refresh' and `Rescan refresh' would solve the issue. I don't often re-arrange my music, but I would hate to lose the ratings if/when I do. Do you still support MySQL, or it it SQLite only now? Has anyone had ever set the page_size PRAGMA for SQLite? I am tempted to bump that to 16k, which with cache_size = 2 would give 312MB of cache. I have the RAM, might as well use it. It it worth moving from 7.7.3 to 7.8? The changelog looks fairly small. Quoting Mnyb mnyb.5jz...@no-mx.forums.slimdevices.com on Fri, Oct 05 21:56: Setting higher cache pragma is exactly what the high mem setting in LMS does ( look in the advanced / performance settings ). I know. The high mem setting (which I have enabled) bumps the cache from 2,000 pages to 20,000 pages. At 1KB page size (the default) that is still only 20MB. Given that the I/O I posted from strace shows 1024 byte reads and writes, bumping the page_size to 16KB would make there be 16x fewer I/O operations. Leaving the high mem setting enabled with 16KB page_size would give ~315MB of cache, significantly more than the 20MB currently being used. The down side is that to change the page_size I have to hack the code, and then completely wipe and regenerate the databases. Still, it might be worth it. ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes you have too, but the code hack is only one line I think it is in SQLiteHelper.pm or ? Or something like it ( not at home can't peek into my server rigth now ) this will be wiped at every upgrade . But do you really need to rescan ? Just restart LMS and see if it helps .
