Re: [slim] iPeng, your iPhone Squeezebox Remote, gets even better with version 2.0!

2012-12-18 Thread mordac

Hi everyone. I don't know if the issue has been reported or not, but I
have had a strange problems for a few days. My iPad runs on iOS 6 and my
iPhone on iOS 5. Both connect to my home wifi without a problem.
However, ipeng detects my squeezeserver on the iPhone but not on the
iPad. I have a squeeze controller that also works fine. As an indication
the Logitech squeezebox app behaves the same way (works on iPhone, not
on iPad). iPad 2 and iPhone 4

Are you absolutely sure the iPad is connected to the same network? Does
your WiFi maybe have a guest mode network that only let's you access the
Internet and not the local network?

Could you send me diagnostics mails from both devices (using the mail

Where did this come from?
A friend of mine would like a music system such as mine and I have no

There's been talk of a replacement for the Touch ever since the Touch
first appeared.
And I'd have thought anything new would be branded with the rest of the
range - i.e. Touch UE.

Do you have a link?

2012-12-18 Thread ModelCitizen

I can't imagine that there's anything in this (note that the OP has not
revealed any sources). A Touch has a local server which does not seem to
fit with Logitech's current direction and in this age of hand held
controllers a touch screen device tied to an amp/speakers by wires seems
like even more of a misnomer than when it was originally released.

Re: [slim] heard on the grapevine: replacement for Squeezebox Touch

2012-12-18 Thread pippin

Disclaimer: I don't know anything and I'm wildly guessing here.

That said: I'm not so convinced the local server would not fit the UE
architecture.
First of all, it doesn't make sense to do all this new Smart Radio stuff
and infrastructure just to re-brand the Radio so I'd think there has to
be a broader plan.
Second: since in the UE architecture the server doesn't have to control
the device, it becomes a less critical component and since you don't
have to switch servers, it would be much easier to use a tiny server
like the Touch has it.
When they originally developed the Touch I was convinced (and wrote a
dozen change requests or so to that extent) that a more
source-independent architecture as the UE Smart Radio has it would be a
necessary precondition to make the embedded server work and I still
believe I was right, although I would not do it like the UE platform
does.

A replacement of the touch would be nice, but I have a feeling that a
replacement for the Boom would have a wider appeal and would be higher
up on Logitech's priority list. The Boom replacement I envision would
be the UE Radio with 2 speakers.

It would be great if in the future they could remove the dependency on
the server in the cloud to play local music.

Who knows what the future holds. Perhaps something will be announced at
CES this January?

If it happens, it happens.

But I have discovered in the last few days that there are plenty of

Right now, my Touch is working perfectly. Since there are no moving

does up and die, I'd really have to think long and hard about giving
Logitech any more of my money, no matter what products they have

Though I'd find it interesting if Logitech would continue things forward
with the squeezebox under the UE moniker, I share your sentiment. I
didn't let myself get caught up in stocking up on spares when the Touch
price fell through the floor during the fire sale. I did bite on a
cheap SB Radio, but that was because my wife needed an alarm clock and
wanted something kind of fancy. I'm done throwing money Logitech's
way.

As my squeezeboxes die or just become irrelevant over time, I will
probably look elsewhere for a whole home audio solution. By then, who

Same issue here. I cannot play Pandora for very long. Sometimes a few
songs, other times almost an hour. Rarely can I play as long as an hour
though. I've been testing this issue for a while now, as this is a
critical issue for me. Here's what I've gathered so far:

- The issue occurs at the end of a song. So, when a song ends, the next
one doesn't start playing.
- The issue is independent of the player type, as it happens on Duet,
Touch, SoftSqueeze, and SqueezePlay.
- Pandora continues to stream on pandora.com and via Sonos. In other
words, it seems to be related only to Squeezebox and Pandora. Something
must have change on the Pandora side that doesn't play nice with how
Squeezebox uses it.
- This has been happening for at least few weeks now, although I'm not
sure exactly when it started.
- Independent of the station, as I've tried many.
- The Squeezebox players don't fail/stop at the same time. In other
words, if I have many players playing different Pandora stations at the
same time, they all will stop playing at different times, independent of
the other.
- Tested on multiple different networks to rule out networking issue.
- I have a paid Pandora account btw.

Also, I've noticed that the skip track button doesn't work anymore (or
at least not reliably). Sometimes it works, sometimes it's really slow
to get to the next song; sometimes I see Fetching track details... for
a while; I've also seen Unable to retrieve next track, press PLAY to
tray again.

A power supply is a power supply -- it doesn't have to come from
Logitech. The psu referenced in post #3 of this thread will work in the
US:

Or any other psu that is 2 amps, center positive polarity, and a

Re: [slim] Pandora Streaming problems

2012-12-18 Thread clixby

I posted this over on the logitech forums as well... I'm having the same
problem.

I've done some traffic analysis on my LAN to try to figure out what's
going on here. The squeezebox endpoints have two conversations going
on.. one transaction that stays constant back to the LMS server, and
another connection out to Pandora. The pandora connection is not
persistent, and makes a new request for each song. The content of the
control messages back and forth between the LMS and the receiver are not
obvious. I checked the logs of the LMS, but nothing seems too terribly
out of the ordinary.

Then I checked the communication on the LMS itself. It appears that
there are constant control messages between the LMS and
mysqueezebox.com. There seems to be sync messages going on quite
frequently (between 15-30 seconds by my small sample size). But this is
also where the LMS gets the next Pandora track. It uses HTTP to get the
information from mysqueezebox, and must relay the pandora URL to the
squeezebox device on the LAN. Usually the GETs from the LMS are fine,
but I was able to correlate a problem with this response from
mysqueezebox.com:

HTTP/1.1 504 Gateway Time-out
Server: nginx/1.2.5
Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2012 03:52:57 GMT
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Length: 182
Connection: close

html
headtitle504 Gateway Time-out/title/head
body bgcolor=white
centerh1504 Gateway Time-out/h1/center
hrcenternginx/1.2.5/center
/body
/html

I had previously been under the impression that the gateway timeout
error was a local problem, which is why I've torn my network apart
trying to figure out why the squeezeboxes couldn't reach the gateway.
But it's actually a valid reply from the server saying that the
mysqeezebox.com server couldn't reach the gateway. I was not able to
reproduce the 'PANDORA_' error I routinely get while listening (Murphy's
law at work again), but I'm quite sure if I did I'd get an similar error
reporting back from the http GET from my LMS.

I'll confirm and report back. The trouble is, since it's a problem in
the cloud, I don't know that I'll be able to do anything. It's also
extremely odd to me that some people see this much more frequent than
others. Hopefully someone from logitech can shed some light on the
issue.

A power supply is a power supply -- it doesn't have to come from
Logitech. The psu referenced in post #3 of this thread will work in the
 US:

Or any other psu that is 2 amps, center positive polarity, and a
connector with 5.5mm outer diameter and 2.5mm inner diameter. The Jameco
psu referenced in the earlier thread is 2.5 amps, but that's fine.

Wow! If you could've been here in the early days of this forum, you
would've started one hell of a fire fight with that statement!

Oh by the way : in the same settings you can activate bitrate limiting.
This will reduce the network load and maybe you can get happy with this
option and your Archos? It's a per player setting so does not affect the
 others.

Ah good. I'll play with that.

Re: [slim] Pandora Streaming problems

2012-12-18 Thread MTU

I have been using the live input plugin to stream a Pandora feed from a
desktop across the Squeezebox network. For remote control I'm using
Team Viewer to control the Pandora Desktop App from my tablet. While
not the most elegant solution, it works!!!

BTW thanks Clixby for your work!
