Having said that, an open source plugin with a few thousand users would

legal action towards a low volume plugin developer they would probably
be happy if you just stopped distributing it, but anyone doing it should

I hope it didn't across that I suggested to user another user's Partrner

indicate it was not required.

Regarding PartnerId, I have already went through some of these hoops
with Amazon AWS and the FindArt plugin and didn't want to leave myself
open to litigation as a result of 3rd parties using (and possibly
modifying) my plugin.

As the only proper way forward would be for someone to contact Tunein to
see if a non commercial licenses is still possible. My concern would be
that this may highlight the issue (e.g. XBMC plugin) within Tunein which
may have been ignored and in the worst case scernario instigating a

Perhaps the softly, softly approach would be to ask XBMC Tunein plugin

Not sure about fair or not fair. Businesses make decisions all the time
that are good for some and bad for others. Logitech certainly should be
held to meeting any legal contractual obligation they have for
supporting products they've sold (which might be keeping mysb.com alive
for 2 years), but otherwise they can make any decisions they think are
best for their shareholders. But I also don't see the worthless
argument. First, these devices are not investments. They are products

LMS, I can listen to all my own music, I can listen to internet radio
(where I have the URLs saved as favorites), I can use Spotify (with
Triode's plugin). If mysb.com shut down tomorrow, I'd lose ability to
listen to siriusXM and Pandora and I assume I'd lose the ability to
scrobble my played music to last.fm. But I'd have 99% of the benefits I

server (vortexbox). I'm so confident of continued benefit from the
squeeze system, that I picked up 3 extra Touches and 3 extra radios when

p.s. I do know several users of Booms, Radios, and even Touch players
that have no idea that LMS even exists, and strictly use a connection to
mysb.com to stream Pandora or internet radio. mysb.com going away will
be a real shock to these folks. On the other hand, if that's all they
were doing, moving to a SONOS player with a built in speaker will be
seamless for them. For me it would be painful (I have too many tracks,
they have too large artwork, the general quality of the Sonos digital
out is not at the level of the Touch, much less my Transporter, and none
of the SONOS units really work as a bedside radio (who wants to look for
their smart phone in the middle of the night to turn on the radio to
play for a half hour while one drifts back to sleep; and heck, I'm not
even sure the SONOS has a headphone jack).

As Andy mentioned every SB owner already paid some money to TuneIn.
There shouldn't be a problem running the plugin from LMS using the same
partner ID. If you look into the plugin code you'll see that it's
already there in many places.

Unfortunately the radio menu item had been created with extensibility in
mind. Today there's more than just TuneIn (eg. the Staff Picks). It
would probably be a good idea to make the plugin a pure TuneIn plugin
and get rid of some of the overhead. If you want to give it a try: look
at the InternetRadio plugin. Replace the call to /api/v1/radio with
pulling the main OPML stream from TuneIn (should be in the XBMC thing).
Then adjust _gotRadio to parse the returned OPML instead of some JSON
data you would get from SN. That should be it.

We should probably move technical discussions to the devs forum to
continue.

Re: [slim] Usage of local music libraries in your family ?

2013-03-01 Thread Dogberry2

We've never needed separate libraries, and I hadn't really thought about
it because I like having access to everything. But after reading some of
the previous comments, I do have to agree that it might be nice to have
the option of making a subset of the whole library available for the
wife or guests to browse. I have tons of jazz and classical albums that
she never puts on, so being able to give her a smaller set to choose
from might be nice. In our case, it could just be as simple as allowing
a top-level selection (or deselection) of certain multiple genres,
before going into the artist/album level. I know you can brows by genre
now, but it's one genre at a time. Being able to start at the top and
just select or eliminate a group of multiple genres, and then browse,
would be useful.

The master library is stored centrally, and is always up and available.

Keeping track of playlists and favorites is something that we haven't
had a problem with in the past, because there were never more than 50 or
so of each. But now the number of playlists and favorites is growing, so
a means of organizing them (into folders by genre/person/whatever) is
something I'm thinking about. I know there are already some plugins out
there that might be useful in this regard, but I haven't yet looked into
them. I think a simple hierarchical organization for grouping playlists
and favorites would be sufficient, just something to keep them all from
being jumbled together and having to sift through a long list all at
once.

We don't need access restrictions, either to specific players or to
specific tracks.

These days, control is commonly via smartphones (Android), but still
sometimes on the players themselves (Touches, Radios and Booms), and the
Duet Controllers do still get used from time to time. The IR remotes
pretty much never get used.

Right now, playing of local music is working very well for our needs.
Apart from the increasing pressure to add some kind of organization to
the growing number of playlists and favorites (which might be taken care
of using existing plugins), we haven't been really yearning for any new
functionality. We're pretty vanilla with the system; I haven't even
experimented much with the plugins that are out there, because there
hasn't seemed to be much need to. One thing I do like is having tracks
scrobbled to lastFM; my understanding is that when mysb.com get shut
down that will stop. If scrobbling could continue to work, that would be
nice. It isn't a critical function, but it is a nicety.

The paid services are actually more likely to break as mysb.com proxies

Paid service providers are very paranoid they are not so likely to

[slim] artifacts/glitches w/FLAC

2013-03-01 Thread ezekieldas

I am hearing quite a few artifacts / glitches / tiny audible pops when I
play FLAC files (example is below). If I play these same files via MPD
on the same system I don't hear them. I've reproduced this with just
under 10 different files. My system info is also below. It's probably
useful to note the decoder (I'm pretty sure it's this one):
flac-1.1.2-28.el5_0.1

Here's a file that plays with artifacts:

16 bit, stereo, 44.1 kHz, 12217464 samples

I actually bit the bullet a few days ago and dropped my MOG subscription
and changed to spotify (so I could use Triode's 3rd party plugin, which
works without mysb.com). I figured I might as well get used to spotify.
And frankly, I don't have a major investment in playlists, etc. in MOG,
as I mostly use it for trying out new music, suggestions from others,
etc. before I buy. And I'm assuming that with a new owner (Beats
headphones?), MOG's setup will change soon enough anyway. I trust Triode
more than MOG!

[slim] Does SB alter bit rate on slow WiFi?

2013-03-01 Thread shacky

I just noticed my WiFi was running real slow. Rebooted both routers
(cable and WiFi). Afterward my music sounded so much better. Could
just be phase of the moon ; )

But then I thought just maybe SB alters bit rate when streaming on slow
WiFi.

Any chance?

Re: [slim] better windows app to control squeezebox

2013-03-01 Thread Marsupial

I know this is quite an old thread, but I used info in there to manage a
fullscreen skin for squeezeplay, that I think people could be interested
in.

I found out in this thread that there used to be a fullscreen skin in
squeezeplay, and the name of the file to change to re-enable it.
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?76548-Squeezeplay-full-screen

but the skin wasn't working super nice. So I decided to alter it. Well,
I literally took another skin and put it inplace of the fullscreen one,
but replaced the skin at its intended size (of 800x600)

I also tried at 1024*768 (only change the values in
FullscreenSkinApplet) and it worked good, but my intention is to put it
on a 800x600 screen.
Anyway, here's the files I modified and how it works. Oddly ennough, its
all-black-background. I figure some people might like it.

Re: [slim] Static Burst - Radio and Duet

2013-03-01 Thread ezekieldas

Yes I've experienced this and it's really freaky. It's like a 5 second
burst of mind numbing white noise and digital glitch. If I had
discovered this within 30 days of purchasing my squeezeboxes I might
have returned them (and never looked back). It's equally difficult to
part with this setup because it fits so well into my existing design.

This has happened maybe 3 or 4 times since I brought the SB into my
setup. I'm using LMS 7.7.2 on Linux with squeezelite playing to a local
amp via SPDIF.

I remember digging around these forums and elsewhere for answers on how
to fix this or at least a suspected cause. Unfortunately I've not found
anything useful.

[slim] How does synch work? (squeezlite + 2x SB)

2013-03-01 Thread ezekieldas

My setup is this: LMS 7.7.2 on Linux w/squeezelite out via SPDIF to
local amp + 2x SB. The SB are always in synch. However, every other day
I have to synch the squeezelite
stream with the SB boxen. Naturally there's latency to consider over the
wirless connection so that makes sense. BUT what I do not get is:

I go to Player - squeezelite - Synchronize - Player Audio Delay (ms)

Sometimes I increment sometimes I decrement. There doesn't seem to be
any consistent pattern here. Sometimes I adjust Player Start Delay (ms)
a bit and that seems to help. Sometimes
it doesn't. So my question is how does this work really? Why does this
only work when I delay the device with the least latency? Is there
anything I can do to keep from having to do this every other day? And
lastly, if this is a regular tunable... has anyone automated it via curl
or cron based CLI?

Re: [slim] Does SB alter bit rate on slow WiFi?

2013-03-01 Thread Mnyb

Not automatically , it's a setting you can turn on with fixed rate
limits that you also sets .

So moon phases it is :)

What happens with slow wifi is that the player buffer runs down and the
music quits and you get rebuffering errors on the player . If its on
the limit it stutters and you get really obvius problems , not a subtle
shift in sound quality.

But as long as the network is able to fill the quite large player buffer
it will sound the same .

You can actually test this turn of the router while listening , possibly
in the middle of a song there will be at least 30 seconds in the buffer
. If the player is conected by Ethernet you can simply unconnected the
cable .

If it is a real squeezebox is it doing this when playing flac natively
or are you transcoding on the server ( don't to that either it's
pointless ).

I've also opened a Spotify account, so Triode's plugin is valuable. I
rarely use mysb.com directly...and in fact most of the plugins I use
appear to be LMS plugins, since blocking mysb.com at my router doesn't
affect those I use regularly (it does kill last.fm and the non-Triode
Spotify plugin).

They are both stock, no mod, SB. The LMS info page shows the info below.
However, it's not from either SB where I hear the artifacts, it's from
the squeezelite - amp - speaker setup (and no, there are no other
issues with this setup).

I am not sure if I'm playing natively or transcoding on the server. How
could I check that?

These sounds like Squeezelite questions, you are better off asking them
in the Squeezelite thread over in the Unix/linux forum. The developer,
Triode, will see it better there.

When you ask these questions it's best to carefully describe your setup,
for example, server version vxxx is running on computer model, with OS
xyz, Mention whether Squeezelite is running on the same computer as the
server or a different computer, if it's a different computer mention
what that computer is, what the OS is etc. If it's a separate computer
is it connected to the server via ethernet cable or WiFi. What arguments
are you using when starting Squeezelite. How do you get the audio signal
out of the computer? Is it a sound card plugged into the computer, a
headphone jack on a laptop, a S/PDIF output from the computer or a
soundcard etc. Be as explicit as you can.

Basically supplying as much information as you can in the first post
will help the experts zero in on the situation quicker.
