Re: [slim] unknowingly switching to mysb.com
I recall that there is an option to start LMS with a "--no mysqueezebox" switch. Might that do it? I doubt it: LMS was off, wasn't it? It then doesn't matter at all how you would start it. ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] unknowingly switching to mysb.com
My comment - it seems to me that the auto switch, with no real display of what server you are using, can trip our less experienced people up. I think you'd still have to confirm the switch. Original hardware players IMHO do NOT connect to any other server than the latest used automatically. squeezelite based players might do so, but not original hardware. I'm pretty sure your friend had to confirm the switch. But the message might have been unclear (and the situation confusing). ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

But, I think I was trying to solve a user problem within the system, hoping something was built in and simple. Perhaps that isn't going to happen. I think the user might just have to really try to learn a couple basics. Or I can put a sticker on his touch :) There is also the "unintended consequences". If I disable mysb.com, and he mangles LMS somehow, then he is out of luck until I fix it for him. Thanks Robb, I know very little about using CLI, but have found the documentation, and will look into it. Still it does seem weird that something so legacy, out of date, development stopped years ago, would remain so integrated into LMS. The account authorization I completely understand, it's already in place for Pandora, etc, why not use it for Tidal, etc. But to not be able to disable fleeing LMS when you can't find it, seems strange. But, maybe it never comes up, except for some new users :) Still maybe an easier solution is to display always, or at a tap, the attached server. It appears to me that it might be possible to run a script that subscribes to the serverstatus command in order to know when a player switches to msb.com. When that happens, perhaps the disconnect command could be used to switch it back to the local LMS. Usually running latest beta LMS nightly on Raspberry Pi OS with virtual players (Squeezelite and Airplay bridge). Occasionally using SB Radio, Boom or Classic. I agree that sonos ($$) was probably the right approach. But I cannot support sonos, and the total I spent for him is $300 (with a pi, touch, and 2 radios) In this particular case, my friend was over and said "I want that". I gave him a duet, wifi problems. Found a touch on ebay for $100USD, and tried to run Tiny LMS, you know the rest. Bought him a pi with HDD. Peace and happiness...until the auto switch to mysb.com In my mom's final years, she loved gadgets, and I would write and laminate simple instructions/flow charts/etc. I am not sure they helped, but she did spill food on them, so they were being used :) It seems like a simple request/get. If connection to LMS fails, do nothing, keep failing/error message...wish I knew how to write a plugin... Re: [slim] unknowingly switching to mysb.com
My perception is that LMS works well for those willing to learn the technical stuff surrounding the SB and LMS system. It is not the best option for the person that simply wants to plug and play and not have to worry about which server is providing the music. The UE Radio was Logitech's attempt to make it easier, but it did not go well with the base of existing customers using SB and LMS. Many years ago, when SB was still being manufactured, a friend was interesting in having a music server. I recommended she look into a Sonos because of the issue you are describing. Not to mention at the time, for me, LMS was unstable, but eventually the software improved. Not a really an answer to your question, but more of a commentary that the SB/LMS works great for those technically inclined, and less so for the play and play. Or replace with "switchless" PS. thank you, of course, but why not just not auto switch to mysb.com?, or, at the very worse have an indication of which server is being used. Edit (but then he would unplug it to, say move it :)) As you know, all it takes is an "event" to auto switch to mysb.com (not just a power switch). What I really am looking for is to disable mysb.com, but still use it for authentication. Or at a minimum show the attached server (wish list). Personally, I don't use services or mysb.com, so I suppose I could just remove my account info, but I know how to recover, so I don't bother. [slim] unknowingly switching to mysb.com
I suppose I should be able to dig around and experiment, but I'd rather just ask :) go to -italics- for the question if the back story is boring We all know sb device, LMS, and mysb.com, and their roles pretty well. But then we deploy them to technically challenged and inexperienced friend and family, then "things happen" I have seen this, or similar at least 5+ times. I'd like to find a way out to avoid it: I deployed a touch, rpi3b+ (pcp server only) to a non technical and not very willing to learn friend and he thinks the world of it. I went over the other day and he was listening to pandora (sure, why not). He said "I cannot get radio paradise anymore" so I investigated with him watching. I backed out, then into favorites, which identified mysb.com is the server. I went to my music, and it could not connect to the LMS server. I went over to the little pi box and the power supply was switched off (tidying up?). I turned it on and viola, was able to use my music to switch to LMS, then favorites to the RP links I set up. I told him what happened. Blank stare. He had lived with it for months. So, I knew it was bound to repeat. Had it just not worked (no mysb.com) I would have gotten a call. -So, my question(s) - is there a way to turn off the auto switch to mysb.com if LMS is not available? The "integration" setting in LMS seems to be only for player settings. Further, if I can prevent the switch, can mysb.com still be used to account validate his Pandora?- My comment - it seems to me that the auto switch, with no real display of what server you are using, can trip our less experienced people up. What are the ways we can prevent that? Is there a way on the touch screen to always list the server name, even if it's invisible until you tap? Also, I know to use MyMusic to switch to LMS and settings->advanced->forgot what this is->switch to mysb.com to switch to mysb.com, but it's not intuitive to others. I do know that I can add the settings->~ to the main menu, but, do less experienced? Jim PS - as a side note, I have been thinking about starting a thread on "accessibility". We all know this from computers/devices as the attempt to equalize the experience with the hearing, sight, and physically impaired. But what about daft and unwilling to learn? My thought would be to share our experiences and "tricks and tips" to make this flexible and powerful system as close to push and play as possible. Think a thread on this would be useful?
