Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-05-04 Thread azaz44

I confirm the radio buttons are fixed in newest release.

What doesn't work: if menu option has 'grandparent' specified, it
should go to levels back and refresh the menu, but it doesn't. In my
case this option is a radio button :)

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-05-03 Thread azaz44

Wow, that's a fast response. I just installed and it's a big
improvement. Things I complained about before work now great. It's
going to by my app of choice now.

What I really like:

- pause, next, prev from every screen!

- multiline display for items with long strings (when browsing)

- these little dots which tell me how deep in the tree structure I am
when browsing the library (unfortunately small and not clickable)

- I like that it's switching between two modes: now playing and
browse. It's more intuitive than iPeng's approach in which you go
from one to another.

- plugins work

- it remembers where I was while browsing music

Issues quickly found are (most are minor):

- my plugin works, but the icon for it is wrong (shows some two lights
pointing to the stage)

- in my plugin I can show a context menu for an item with add, play,
insert etc. If I select Add it works correctly - adds to the playlist
and closes the popup menu (goes to parent). If I choose Play however,
it goes to another menu with just one item called Play. It seems to
be SqueezeCommander addition. (But the action works at the end)

- on players menu: in iPeng you can click on the song title (white text
on dark blue bg) to activate the player. Actually I found this is the
best way to do this, otherwise you never know if you hit something that
makes some action, like volume control or player on/off. This doesn't
work here.

- am I the only one which dislikes the way you select the player in
iPeng (and here?). This screen is maybe great for advanced control of
all players at once or synchro, but for normal operation... Logitech
app is way better here because selecting the player is easy and you
always see your player name with big font.

- if you are in the library, you have a button to go back ala iPeng.
Not sure if it's really needed, since Android devices have hardware go
back..

- loading any music library list in iPeng seems to be faster. I think
it is because the UI makes it feel faster (animated icon) plus iPeng
starts loading stuff before the menu starts sliding, not sure how it's
here. (But I also restarted my server recently, it might be things are
slower now, because not cached...)

- everything is made the way high contrast + bold fonts, not sure if
it's good for longer use :)

- dots shown, when you can slide the screens, are small and not
clickable. They are iPhone style, not Android style. Clicking them
would actually come handy while browsing music.

- sliding the screen to go one level higher in the tree, when browsing
music, works, but is not really robust (AFAIR same applies to iPeng).

- some polish strings are cutted from the first special polish
character to the end. Not sure if it's translation issue or program.
Some other work fine. (ó works ok, #322;, #347;, #263; etc.
don't).

- on this panel with play, prev, next it feels like sth is missing.
Maybe becayse of getting used to iPeng, maybe because assymetry. How
about adding some useful action there.

About selecting the player. I think the player name should be shown
always, with big letters, even if it takes space. Additionally I think,
it should be always shown at the top of the screen, not the bottom,
because this is where you always start and where you find most
information. I cannot count how many times I started music on the wrong
player with iPeng, because I didn't look at the bottom of the screen.

Then, when you select the player, it should be just player names and
nothing more, otherwise it's cluttered and confusing. Multi player
control as it is now is great, but as an addition to the above. It
might be my opinion only, but just try Logitech app and see how easy
and great it is.

Ok enough :)

I also want to add that this is a great app as it is now and worth the
money :)

I'm a bit reluctant to change that yet, as I don't know if any device
has a dark grey background in the notification area.

I can live with that :)

the Logitech App: if you don't stop the Logitech App (i.e. leave it via
the home button), it returns to the last menu where you left, even when
started via SqueezePlayer. This works fine an all devices I tried.
If you haven't been in the Logi-App for a long time, then maybe Android
decided to remove the App from the background, so it will be restarted.

Nothing I can do there - and that this App has a forced unnecessary
 splashscreen I cannot change :(.
In my experience using SqueezeCommander is much more convenient, as it
 starts much faster.

This is not much of an issue for me anymore, as SqueezeCommander just
got a great update and is going to be my app of choice.

But in case you want reports about it, this is how it works here. (I
evaluated more).

If Logitech app is initially started with SqueezePlayer it works as
expected. Everytime I switch to it from SqueezePlayer, it is instant.

If Logitech app is started separately by running the app from Android
UI, then SqueezePlayer will not switch to it, but rather start another
one. Moreover, every next time I try it, is starts another one (show
the splash screen again). And now I'm in logitech app and try to quit
it. It asks for confirmation, than quits and guess what, I have
logitech app on screen again. I have to quit it as many times as I did
start it before :) So I guess many instances are started, although
built-in task manager shows always only one.

I also tested the same with SqueezeCommander and here it seems to
behave correctly in all cases.

Another problem:

a context menu of my plugin shows a list of options to select, which
are radio buttons. They are shown fine, but clicking on them doesn't do
anything, while it should select an option and go to grandparent menu.

Also, a context menu doesn't look any different than a normal menu, but
this might be intended.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-05-03 Thread azaz44

I looked for some space and this is what I came with. The UI is not
right, because top part should look different, and be more visualy
separated from the song title, but I found some space :)

This is now playing screen with assumption, that play-rev-ff-panel is
always visible on this screen. Other screens are less problematic,
because they don't need fixed squared space for artwork. Personally I
would make play-ref-ff-panel slide out of the bottom of the screen on
other screens. So if the panel is hidden, there would be some small
indication at the bottom telling you can slide something out.

The height of this thing which I added at the top is exactly the height
of what I cutted out at the bottom.

Update: just found the dots are missing...

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-05-02 Thread azaz44

I've just bought this app day or two ago, as I've just bought my first
Android phone. Using it is easy as I'm used to iPeng and it's very
similar to it. Of course I would prefer some easy selection of the
active player, but same applies to iPeng :)

However the application is for me useless, because:

1. No plugins. I have my own plugin to browse music and it doesn't even
appear in menus.
2. Even if plugins would work, every time I go to the music library, i
land on the root menu and have to select everything again from the
beginning.

Just wondering, if I'm missing something or these simply aren't
supported? Hard to believe problem no 2 is just made this way. Checked
all the settings etc. Using Logitech app for now, but it starts too
long.. (but I love that you can easily select the player!)

Also, it very often shows loading at the playlist with no reason..

Re: [slim] Android Controller App

2011-05-02 Thread azaz44

Works mostly fine here - Samsung Galaxy S (i9000). But scrolling is not
smooth at all, that's obviously first thing to improve. It feels way
under performanced. (Hopefully you have some better solution than just
waiting until devices get faster). The UI very similar to the Touch
works great.

One thing doesn't work. I have a plugin which is in Music Library and
browses music, and seems to work. However holding finger on an item to
show context menu doesn't - it just doesn't react. It does work on
Radio, Touch, SqueezePlay, iPeng. Unfortunately the plugin is my
unreleased work, so you cannot reproduce it, but is it any different on
Controller App how it handles context menus, or any hacks made there?

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2011-05-02 Thread azaz44

Works here on Samsung Galaxy S.

Issues:
- the playback icon doesn't blend into background - you can see the
square behind.
- didn't find the server, had to enter IP manually.
- it has an icon to go to Logitech Controller. This works, but it's
like the Controller is always starting new - it shows free your music
and takes time to start, even if it was already running. When starting
by simply running the app, and if it was running before, it takes you
instantly to the now playing screen without waiting.

Playback seems to be stable and it is a great app!

Can do. But the plugin has its own database, which is stored in SB

The code would be more important than the DB. Could you please enable

debugging for network.jsonrpc and network.comet, trigger the action
 that
wouldn't work, then post that log snippet from server.log?

This is the command-line I used:
squeezesvr --debug network.jsonrpc=DEBUG,network.comet=DEBUG
hopefully it's correct.

Attached is the snippet with logs when the menu with items is
requested. This is right after starting my plugin. Then I try to get
context menu for any of the items by holding finger on it. After a
second the item background (green) blinks and nothing happens. And
nothing is generated in the log files for this event. It seems the
client doesn't send anything to the server, like it doesn't recognize
the 'more' action at all.

And the iPeng.. is absolutely great. I only browse by folders and it
works like a charm. Folders load fast, scrolling is great. I love the
way everything is printed with smaller or bigger letters. I absolutely
love the fact, that you can go to now playing, and then back to
browse and it's still in the folder where you were before (not like
in SB or Boom). Would love it even more if it would stay this way when
the app is restarted.

Great help for classical music fans. I have a feeling I have now access
to far more of my music, which before I was unable to find or navigate
to without going to a PC first (I use boom and SB3).

It has some issues, like the artwork displayed randomly, or it crashes
if I go to favourites, but I don't need these things (well, artwork
would be not bad).

It also doesn't show play all or add all if a folder has
subfolders, which I don't understand (SC web interface does show them),
but maybe that changes in future.

Great app!

PS. Anyone knows how to get rid of this iPod Unlock screen, when you
switch it off and the on again?

Then it's OK. I've seen a lot of 5th gen, but it must be some mistake.

What does randomly mean? Does it show wrong artwork or none at all for
some tracks? Is what is shown different from what the Web Interface
 shows?
Which server version do you use? With 7.4 and 7.5 there's an issue that
artwork in folders that become scanned not by rescanning the library but
by browsing to the folder are being cached wrongly by the server which
means they don't show in iPeng. You can fix this only by doing a clear
and rescan on the server, there's nothing iPeng can do about this.

So far it either shows correct artwork or none at all. Typically if you
start playing, it shows. Then with next tracks or restart (same folder
still playing) it doesn't. If you want I can make some checks, so far I
only use it for one day.

But I use older SC - 7.3.3, there were so many complaints about 7.4
that it was first time I didn't just update...

I also have to say I disabled any scanning on the SC server long time
ago, as I don't use TAGS at all. Still it was showing artwork even for
album I just placed at the server yesterday (for the first track).

Now THAT one is more of a concern to me, that should not be. I only know
about three reproducible crash scenarios so far and this one should not
be one of them. Could you send me a list of your favorites as shown by
the web interface to coolio att penguinlovesmusic dott com?

Looking there I found some strange entry which I cannot play, maybe
that's a reason. I'll send the email.

That's because it only does this for items it can handle as a playlist.
You can still play the whole folder if you do a hold gesture on the
folder itself (from the containing folder).

This is what I do now. Honestly this is something I would like to have
changed.

 There is no way.

Ouch. I guess configuring it in a way that it automatically turns on
when you pick it up (ala the controller) is a dream as well.

Still I have to say I love bot the iPod and iPeng.

Re: [slim] iPod + iPeng, which iPod?

2010-05-12 Thread azaz44

Hmm, I got confused.

My library is a lot of files, organized in folders, which are nested.
It happens sometimes there is a folder with tracks and other folders
inside. This is because it's classical music and any tagging doesn't
really work. Will this work then for me?

What I want is browsing the collection and be able to play or add
on any item - folder or file. Just like in SC.

I don't need cover art that much (although would be nice), and don't
need any album behaviour. I have SC configured in a way it plays a
single track only, if I play/add on a track.

I'm just one step from buying an ipod, I really hope the answer is
yes :)

Cheers
