I think I see the point - but I'm not sure how big of a difference it makes as of today. Squeezebox'es, and in particular the server, uses dedicated API's for accessing services such as Last.fm, Rhapsody, Pandora, etc. And the issues of A/V sync would still be there.

So 7.5 embedded aka. TinySC will not support SLIMp3 nor SB1. The wiki-page says that 7.5 embedded will eventually be merged with the mainline code. Does that imply that SLIMp3/SB1 support will be dropped as of that version? -- bhaagensen

TCP/IP as a replacement for S/PDIF is IMO not going to happen in forseeable future. If you want a solution to the jitter problem by protocol, have a look at asynchronous USB which some claim is gaining some popularity. -- bhaagensen
