I tried a different take on this, casting the web interface, in this
case the Now Playing of the Material skin, to the Google Nest Hub.
The word to note here is the "casting" bit, my home automation
controller (Homey) allows me to cast a web page to a specific Chromecast
player, but I'm sure

Craig has now added an option to start the Material skin into a Now
Playing screen. This will work on any html5 compliant browser so some
Smart TVs will support it as well as any recent iOS or Android tablet
and Windows, Mac or Linux (with GUI) PC
Install Material to LMS and then call

But you qualified it that it required using a Pi with a HDMI screen -
this is NOT a requirement of the solution - any old tablet with a
browser will do.

A few years ago an addition was done for a Remote Now Playing display
ona say a Smart TV (ie. just a browser page which display covert art and
artist info) . Many variations were posted earlier in the thread - can
be tested now with no additional h/w

Pi/Pi screen/Jivelite, now playing. Sorry about picture quality, looks
better in real life.

You could have it set to switch to the Now Playing screen when there is
something playing ... and screen off when it is not.

Use SDT on the Touch or Pi. Then you can create a screen you like with
CustomClockHelper easely.

Why not RPi/7" screen with pCP and jivelite, that's what I use.
I have it on my desk to see what's playing on my main system.

The easiest way is probably to simply use a Squeezebox Touch to control
your Transporter.

I use an old laptop running Debian 9 and Jivelite

Another approach is discusses in 'this thread'
Basically, create a status image and display it directly on the Pi's
console.
The advantage is that it's light-weight (no X server, browser, etc.),
I do like the material idea but i only want the artist part (the right
pane) is that possible with the material design?
Or even better Left the artist info etc, and right album art.

Squeezeplay on an O2 Joggler, connect via wireless to network, just run

How about something simpler. 2nd hand iPad / Touch running browser with
Material UI.
