Re: Sprints DjangoCon Europe

2011-04-08 Thread Wim Feijen
More news about the sprints!

During the sprints we will have access to the Dialogue Cafe in de Waag
building (see: http://www.dialoguecafe.org/). Dialogue Cafe offers
facilities for video conferencing. Wouldn't it be great if we could
sprint all over the world? Actually, up to now, two locations outside
of Amsterdam have been opened, namely Lisbon (Portugal) and Rio de
Janeiro (Brazil). In addition, Ramallah (India) will probably open in
june, so maybe in time maybe not for the sprints.

My question right now is: do you know any programmers in (the vicinity
of) Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro or Ramallah? Who would be willing to attend
to the sprints and possibly help in organizing the local communities?

Please let me know. You can respond here or by private mail as well.

Thanks!

It's never too soon to scheme and plan :-)

Two suggestions leap to mind:

Firsly, general triage and bugfixing is always on the todo list. It's
not especially inspiring, but it is necessary, and it can be an easy
way to get newcomers started.

Secondly, anything on the GSoC list [1] that hasn't been accepted as a
GSoC project. Many of those projects would benefit from having a
couple of heads spend a few hours doing design work, then thrashing
out a prototype in a caffeine fuelled frenzy. As you've noted, there
will be several of the core team (including myself) at the sprints who
will be keen to give guidance and break design deadlocks.

Sprints DjangoCon Europe

Nice!!!

But, at over 500 euros, and the hotel costing 140 euros per night, I
probably won't be able to attend.. (just simply can't justify spending 1000
euros on a conference, no matter how awesome it is lol).

I'll look forward to seeing the slides / pictures though!

Sprints DjangoCon Europe

2011-04-05 Thread Klaas van Schelven
Hi all,

I'm sure you've all heard of the upcoming DjangoCon Europe. Of special
interest to Django Developers will be the sprints, on the 9th & 10th
of June. We've got a very special location:
http://djangocon.eu/venues/#sprint_venue
Of further interest: the sprints will run for 48 hours straight. We
even have field beds...

I think it would be great if we can have some (or a couple) of themes
to work on / towards. Can we have the sprints coincide with "a bigger
picture" in Django?

If this is too soon, I'd be glad to re-ask the same question a month
in advance...

regards,
Klaas
