[libreoffice-documentation] Status of draft Contributors' Guide

2020-07-17 Thread Jean Weber
I have made some changes to the Front Matter and Chapters 1-4 of the
draft Contributors' Guide following reviews by PK and JS. I have also
left some comments, questions, and encouragement for input from team
members, especially regarding Ch4 (Style Guide). Files are in the
Drafts folder for the book.

Chapter 4 contains a lot of material on technical writing that was
added many years ago when the OO team was just beginning to write the
first versions of the user guides. I think a lot of this material
could simply be removed; not that it's wrong, but that it's not
necessary in this document. I left comments in relevant places. Ch4
also has out of date styles in use, but that can be dealt with later.

I am working on Chapter 5 (Using the Chapter Template) and the
template itself, to bring them up to date with discussions we've had
on this list. I hope to have an updated draft uploaded by tomorrow.

Jean

Colleen,
Thank you for catching some major errors - things I had not noticed had
changed - as well as minor ones. I’ve now published the chapter.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Question re. Contributor Guide

2020-07-17 Thread Jean Weber
Felipe,

Thank you for the suggestion. As DaveB said, most of the list is
already in the Contributors Guide, but I think it could perhaps be
expanded and/or presented a bit differently. I’ll look at that when I
go through the guide making the latest corrections and updates.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Question re. Contributor Guide

2020-07-17 Thread Felipe Viggiano
Hello Dave,

Sorry I didn't make myself clear enough. By "attachment in the Contributors
Guide", I meant in the form of an appendix (2 pages max.) at the end of the
book with some sort of starting guidance for beginners, no intention to
propose big changes in the document.
I just thought that it would be a good solution to standardize newcomers'
work on reviews.

But I understand and agree with your point of view, there is a lot of work
to do in more essential documents, and the team should be focused on
finishing these.

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Question re. Contributor Guide

2020-07-17 Thread DaveB
Hi Felipe,

It's unclear what you mean by "attachment in the Contributors Guide".
Most of the steps you outline are covered in the Contributor Guide.
After all these years the Contributors Guide (both document and wiki) is
still work in progress.

Not wishing to downgrade your idea, but now that there are finally an
almost reasonable number of team contributors and good progress being
made with the guides, what needs to be done is for the Documentation
Team to concentrate their efforts on completing the Contributors Guide
to sustain the momentum that has started in enlisting and supporting new
contributors. Drew's presentation is another useful move in this direction.

Years ago I pushed for this as part of the effort to engage new
contributors, but it never achieved the necessary traction. So please do
not waste the opportunity you have now.

Regards
Dave

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Question re. Contributor Guide

2020-07-17 Thread Felipe Viggiano
Samantha,

I'm thinking in a very direct stepwise guide. Basically a checklist
instructing beginners in what's important to check in the documents.

With cautions to make sure the reader understands that the document
presents only some good starting points as you said, and feel free to check
for others discrepancies.

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

2020-07-17 Thread Samantha Hamilton
Filipe,

That sounds like a fun little project to write up. I am curious---do you
mean a newcomers reference guide for editing processes? like, "Ten things
to watch out for when reviewing," or a stepwise guide for newcomers
detailing what review projects are a good starting point (i.e., covers,
reference pages, etc.)?

Cheers,
Sam.

2020-07-17 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy Sam,

The edits are much appreciated there is one problem - the mailing
list, here, does not support attachments and so it was lost.

For the moment, given that I haven't done anything with what Olivier
posted yet, the easiest way would be for you to send the attachment
again but this time to my direct email address. I'll use the changes
for the starting point.

Thanks

Attached is a copy of the presentation with some copyediting queries.
Nothing major, just grammatical points and parallel structuring. The
presentation had a great flow.

(Also - I hope "commenting" on a copy of the presentation was an okay way
to provide feedback; if there's an alternative way for the future, please
let me know!)

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Login to LO Documentation Foundation

2020-07-17 Thread Robert Großkopf
Hi Randolph,

I could login after I had used this link:
https://de.libreoffice.org/admin/
... it is the Link from the German part of the website.

But after I logged in on this way I could also login at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin=Main+Page%2Fde
... also the German page.

Don't know why it worked this way and doesn't work directly ...

Regards

Robert
