OK, I've checked it. I've changed "we" to "you" throughout as I think

better check the whole thing and make sure that I haven't changed your
meaning at any point.

[libreoffice-documentation] Sophie's wiki article on menu changes

2016-01-27 Thread Hazel Russman
I have partly translated this. You can find the translation at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Comparaison_des_menus_entre_LO_4.4.7.2_et_LO_5.1.0.2

Unfortunately the latest version of LO that I have is 5.0 and there seems to
have been a lot of reorganisation carried out between 5.0 and 5.1 despite it
being only a "minor release". So, as menu entries need to be given literally
and exactly, I have translated only those that occur in the menus of LO 5.0
(which is most of them I think); the rest are still in the original French.

Done, but I can't get the formatting quite right on the source page. It
looks OK in the preview but goes wonky when I save. Someone who knows
more about wiki markup than I do will have to fix that. The

I wouldn't normally bother the list with an off-topic post, but I have just

Have we changed the conventions for page footers along with other aspects of

The left footers used to show the chapter title and the right footers the
current section. Now both seem to show the current section. The chapter title
only appears in the footers for the contents list pages, again on both sides.

I need to know this kind of thing when I am proofreading.

[libreoffice-documentation] Something strange happened...

2015-08-26 Thread Hazel Russman
I've mostly been translating Robert's additions to the Base Handbook using LO
v.5 in Crux. I needed a late version so that I could check the correct English
for some of the prompts and options he mentions.

This morning I happened to open a file that I'd been working on in Debian
Wheezy, which still uses LO v.4. It opened in Writer as a completely blank
single page! The content was gone. Back to Crux and the same file opened
normally.

This is the first time I have seen a backwards incompatibility between two
major releases of LO. Is this a known problem?

You need underlines, not hyphens. And lower-case for the language, upper for

 Hello Hazel,

Great to see you posting here again.

Maybe I got it wrong in an earlier post, where I suggested that you
understood German. I may have got the idea from seeing your name
against reviews of previous revisions of the handbook, where you
applied your grammatical skills to the English translations.

If it is acceptable to others here, I am willing to coordinate the
compilation of the Base Handbook - English Edition and try to avoid
 duplicated work.

Dan is currently reviewing Robert's translation of Chapter 1 and based
on the tone of his previous post, is keen to upload this for further
review. Since nobody else has come forward yet, please work on Dan's
 review when it becomes available.

 Thanks Regards

If you could let the mailing-list know what you just told me then it'd
relieve a bit of stress for Dave and Milos. There are a lot of new people

[libreoffice-documentation] Base Handbook chapter 2

2014-04-12 Thread Hazel Russman
I have created a 4.2 draft folder and put into it a translation of
those segments of the Base Handbook Chapter 2 that were not in the
original translation. These are taken from version 4.2 (I thought we
might as well skip 4.0). There are a lot of German screenshots that
will need to be replaced by English ones and of course the whole thing
needs to be formatted properly.

@Jean: if you want these things put somewhere else, let me know.

[libreoffice-documentation] Calc wiki FAQ

I have more or less completed these. There are a few which I have not
included, as they are not really relevant for English speakers. And
there are a couple in the charts section which I have not included
because frankly I don't understand the subject! Someone else will have
to translate those.

Of course they all need checking and quite a few will need new
English-language screenshots.

[libreoffice-documentation] Writer FAQ: Miscellaneous.

2013-10-30 Thread Hazel Russman
I have now completed this final section of the FAQ. Most of the
articles are fresh translations from the French and will have to be
checked for accuracy. In one or two cases, I have added material to
make the instructions clearer:

1) The section on thumbnail previews now has an extra step (File|Print
preview) without which it will not work.
2) The section on business cards has been rewritten and extended as
the original instructions were not at all easy to follow.

I have been using LO3.5.4 for the necessary experiments: LO4 might be
different.

Some of the articles have screenshots and some have links to French
HOWTOs in odt format. I have commented these out rather than deleting
them as there may be English equivalents somewhere (our English HOWTO
page seems rather bare!)

What do you mean by cross-links?

The only link I found not working was the 'annotation' in Q.140. There
was a missing references / tag which I added at the bottom of the

There's a red cross-link to another article, which should be blue.
