Dan, I've started going through this chapter and noticed that some of
the images have been linked instead of embedded. I don't have the
folder of images so I can embed them. Could you put the images on the
ODFAuthors website? Or I can list the missing images and you can
upload them. Thanks!

Hi there

I have translated te guide Starting with Base into Dutch.
Doing that I crossed an error.
In the summery query example the search condition is Room and the condition
is greater then 500.
However the item Room is not a number value. I think the Field should be
PurchasedPrijs.

Greetings, Kees

*Step 3: Search Condition.*

   1.

   Select Room as the *Fields*.
   2.

Select *is greater than* as the *Condition*.
   3.

   Enter 500 as the *Value.*
   4.

Since there is only one condition, *Match all of the following*
   (Default) is appropriate.
   5.

   Click *Next*.

All fields and tables should have the same name as defined in the
example. The example-databases I have uploaded here:
http://robert.familiegrosskopf.de/lo_hb_en/

You could also see the names, used in the database, in the screenshots.

Robert

I have already downloaded the example database that I need. I will change
the names needed to match the changes I have made in the text. Then I will
correct the screen shots that need it.

Hi *,

and here the next:
chapter 7

http://robert.familiegrosskopf.de/lo_hb_en/BH5007-Linking.odt
Only new screenshots inserted, also German text - so must be translated.

The last macros I created were directly created referring to English.
So it's faster to copy the content and better for international
understanding.

There are much problems with styles in the different chapters of the
Handbook. Persons, who translated it for LO 3.5, often didn't change
the the style from the German Handbook to the English Handbook. So all
text is red underlined. Also the styles aren't complete identical.
Mouch to do for a person who is interested in a consistent style off
all English descriptions.

What I have done is load the styles from the 5.0 template. Then I search
for the German styles and replace them with the English styles. The character
styles are a little harder to find and replace.

Content of every chapter shows also the Copyright and Note for Mac
users. In all German chapters these headers of the same second page
of every chapter aren't shown in the content.

Both of these have been shown in the English guides since version 3.4. In
5.0, all of the headings appear in the TOC.

Regards

Robert

Subject: [libreoffice-documentation] Base handbook 5.0 in OmegaT

Hi,

some months ago I have already written about this: I suggest to use
omegat for translation of the handbook. My experience is that this will
simplify and speed up the translation process and will enable to reuse
old translations for new BH versions in the future

If you agree I will
- set up the environment at https://github.com/LibreOffice/OmegaT
- transfer there all existing BH translations
- upload German - English translation of GUI strings (so that one
needs not to guess)
- translate the whole guide by Google translate, so that it can be used
to avoid some typing

The next week I will probably not have access to the Internet, but then
I have time to work on that

best regards
Milos

 Hi *,

I have tried to translate the first chapter of the German
 Base-handbuch 5.0.
The german version is already published here:
 http://de.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/

I have uploaded the English version here:
 http://robert.familiegrosskopf.de/lo_hb_en/

All chapters would begin with BH5 ...
For chapter Preface I haven't changed anything I found in the
English BH35. To chapter Introducion ... I added a lot.

I have set Writer to Edit Track Changes Record Changes / Show Changes.

If there is anybody, who want to have a look and want to laugh a
little bit about the combination of Google Translater and a person,
who couldn't write English very well ...

I will try to translate the other chapters the same way. So I could
add new content, when editing the German version, directly to the
 English version.

Hope this would help to publish a newer Verion of the English Handbook
nearly at the same time than the German Handbuch.

 Regards

 Robert

Hi Robert,

First a very big thank you for your work on the original German Base
Handbook and for starting the contribution of English translations.

If you want others to review your work, should we upload this material
to a new Base Handbook 5 folder on the ODF Authors website and process
this through the the normal review/edit procedure there?

As a matter of general interest, is there any kind of review/edit
process used in the production of the German edition of this handbook,
or is this something you work on alone? My reason for asking is to see
if there is a way to refine the ODF Authors review process to make it
easier for new contributors to follow. Milos Sramek did not get any
feedback when he raised this issue some time ago, but I believe it is
something we need to give some consideration.

BTW I will not start laughing a your translations until my knowledge of
German is better than your knowledge of English. Which means you will
not hear a single giggle from me for a very very long time. ;)

Thanks Regards

Dave

I have downloaded chapter 1 to review it. There is a method for doing this.
Right now I don't remember where this information is. I will send it to you by
tomorrow morning. As soon as I can get the review done, I will upload it to the
Base Handbook folder. That is when you can give it an review. I will tell you
when I finish.
Meanwhile, I noticed one thing that needs to be done before anything else:
converted to the 5.0 template. I will be doing this later today.

Is this documentation on all parts of the LibreOffice suite ?

My main interest is in databases and I have done some reviewing in the
past. I had to stop because of some minor strokes, however the effects of
these seem to have virtually gone. I would be happy to start looking at
the data base documentation again if this would help.
