It wasn’t so much that I was unaware of the changes, it was the fact that Jitsi would not show others waiting in the lobby. If we were all sat there waiting, and we could see each other, then I would have signed in with one of my many suitable accounts. Want > to try getting a higher signal strength and wondered if the 5MHz would > be better. Expressing RF levels as a percentage is a bit misleading. If you have a smart phone it might be worth downloading and installing one of the free Wi-Fi Analyser Apps, which generally give the signal strength in dBmW. Thats a logarithmic measurement so a signal strength of - 70 dBm is actually an order of magnitude weaker than -60 dBm. Once you get your head around the units, you get a much better idea of the relative 'goodness' of the received signal. Your '50%' may actually only be 3 db weaker than the '100%', depending on how the laptop measure it. My router is dual band and most of the phones and laptops in the house can do 5 GHz (not MHz :-) ). The 5 GHz signal is generally slightly weaker than the 2.5 GHz one, but it stands alone around here so is not as susceptible to interference. The higher carrier frequency also allows the channel to support a higher bandwidth. I get around -70 dbm on 5 GHz and -60 dBm on 2.5 GHz. Those measurements are taken in one of the bedrooms, whereas the Router is downstairs through at least one wall and a floor. Both work fine on my phone and Chromebook. > Any suggestions please? Re: [Dorset] Next Meeting - One Week Tonight
I was hoping I would make the July meeting as I am winding down my consultancy days for British Airways, but sadly, I can't as next week is turning out to be mostly spent in London for me, between British Airways, meeting up with family in London and job interviews... Hopefully, I'll make the August one!
