RE: [DQSD-Users] [ dqsd-Feature Requests-562414 ] add optional loaddelay
FWIW - IMO, if the user can get some feedback in the toolbar that the searches are being loaded, the delay would be reasonable. Maybe some text "Building Search DB.." could be displayed in the toolbar during this period.. After all this is only going to happen once.. RE: [DQSD-Users] [ dqsd-Feature Requests-562414 ] add optional load delay
I've been thinking about this alot. Couldn't we load up the very minimum for dqsd? If we load only the form and the clock, and we set the onFocus event of the input/textarea to load the rest of the dqsd? This way, we don't load up the bare minimum until dqsd is focused by the user. This might solve the system tray issue and reduce memory usage until the user actually uses dqsd for the first time. -Dan -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 10:36 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [DQSD-Users] [ dqsd-Feature Requests-562414 ] add optional load delay Feature Requests item #562414, was opened at 2002-05-30 10:35 You can respond by visiting: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=432069&aid=562414&group_id= 42081 Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Glenn Carr (glenncarr) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: add optional load delay Initial Comment: Delaying the load of the XML files at startup may solve the problem of the disappearing tray icons. Yeah, WinZip does too. It just doesn't allow you to get information from the registry about the current install directory (AFAIK). I guess we could have it prompt for the default install, and have the user enter the actual install if it was different, but I'd prefer that it be automatic. > so does ZipCentral (cool freeware zip util) http://zipcentral.iscool.net/ > > > I can confirm that zipmagic allows the user to specify > > a target directory for the extraction, and the user is > > asked to confirm/override the default target directory > > when the archive is unpacked... ___ Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference August 25-28 in Las Vegas -- http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm ___ Dqsd-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dqsd-users http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=8601

Everything in dqsdtools.dll is generic (or should be), and isn't associated with any one search. But the features you mentioned are certainly candidates for extensions at some point. I'd suggest leaving them as is if/until we come up with some solid scheme and it works for a few simple extensions. A minor question... I thought so too, but I'm not sure this is possible with self-extracting archives (anyone know if it is?). If it's not, I think we should just use small NullSoft NSIS install kits. The scripts would just be a small subset of the DQSD search.nsi, and it would allow stuff like... determining if there was an installation, creating an 'extensions' subdirectory if necessary, only overwriting existing files if they were older, etc., etc. More thoughts? ___ Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference August 25-28 in Las Vegas -- http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm ___ Dqsd-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dqsd-users http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=8601

RE: [DQSD-Users] [ dqsd-Feature Requests-562098 ] allow for optional extensions
I didn't know anything about xteq... pretty interesting. Here's what I'm thinking right now... - have an extensions subdirectory - in the extensions subdir have a single .xml for each extension - any extraneous files needed by the extension would be in a subdir of the extensions subdir. - at startup, all the .xml files in the extensions directory would be loaded just as the searches are now. E.g., googlespell is an extension I'm working on. So... - I create a googlespell.xml in the extensions subdir - I create a googlespell subdir under the extensions subdir - I add the extra files I need to the googlespell subdir It's basically no different than searches, just separate from them. Something more elaborate is, IIRC, Winamp's plug-ins : you double-click them (they have a special file extension, registered by Winamp), and they get unzipped and all necessary stuff gets done also.
