Microsoft Natural Keyboard Shortcuts

Windows Logo+M (Minimize all of the windows)
  Windows Logo+D (Display the desktop)
I've always found this a curious bug. Win98 does not actually
minimize full screen (F11) IE windows when using Win-M. All other apps will
minimize. Stranger yet, when using Win-D, Win98 will minimize all apps and
seemingly minimizefull screen IE windows but that is not the case. For
those that use Win98, full screen IE and an auto-hidden secondary taskbar, Win-D
minimizes apps, displays the desktop, but makes the secondary taskbar
inaccessible. Normally the 'hidden edge' of this taskbar is visible, but with
Win-D and full screen IE it is not. So while Win-D minimizes apps, it somehow
only brings the desktop forward, leaving full screen IE windows in place but
behind the desktop (I believe this is called z-order). Checking the system menu
for each app on the main taskbar reveals that indeed all the apps are minimized
(that option is grayed out) but accessing any IE system menu from the main
taskbar will automatically bring the IE window to the forefront (not it's proper
function) but indicates that minimization is an available option. Only when full
screen IE windows are individually minimized will the secondary taskbar be
accessible. To try it, create a secondary taskbar, right-click it to set
auto-hide, open IE full screen, hit Win-D, no secondary taskbar. Press Win-D
again, access the IE system menu, select 'Minimize', secondary taskbar is
accessible.

I am not sure if there is similar behavior across the Windows
product line, but because of this bug, accessing DQSD with the Win-S function is
very desirable. Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems with Win-S whether
DQSD is on the primary or secondary taskbar. Any ideas on improving it? Is there
something different or new that DQSD users on Win98 can do? I'll make my address
available if anyone wants to send me a new computer preloaded with
WinXP.

Oddly it works now since my machine cratered and I
had to install the OS from scratch...

Somewhere along the way - in the OS updates etc. the function was
broken...
My machine is setup the same way now that it was before the crash.. I am
 running the same apps etc..

FWIW, few would consider reinstalling the OS a solution to this problem, it
seems you had an unrelated reason for doing so. Also, what you've described
isn't really the problem we're experiencing.

Evoking Win-S is causing keyboard problems requiring a reboot in most cases.
It's not just one or two errant 'keystrokes', but a flash of 10 to 30
OS-evoked key commands causing window closures, taskbar property changes and
other desktop casualties (most may not think to check their trash folders
afterwards).

Hopefully these Win98-specific problems can be fixed. IANAP, but it seems
the gran mal starts in the keyboard hook. The OS must be getting these key
commands from somewhere, and I'm curious to know where the data is coming
from for these 'keystrokes'.

[DQSD-Users] Google API Webservice: FreshStuff

2002-07-22 Thread Marshall Finkman

I wonder if someone could modify the gg search to include a /fresh switch
(or some such) that would divert to FreshStuff to do a Google search. Right
now it's set up for only four options (today, yesterday, seven days, one
month) so that would have to be passed. Maybe it would be best to take the
user's command line time parameter and convert it to the proper Google date
format.

In general, seems that these XML-RPC APIs could become a very interesting
aspect of DQSD.

Re: [DQSD-Users] 'DQSDTools.KeyboardHook - Can't Install Hook' and DEL/UP/DOWN keys

2002-07-04 Thread Marshall Finkman

Same situation here as well. I got the 'Can't Install Hook' error dialog
immediately after installing the newest version. I did not uninstall 2.5.7
before installing 3.0, I only closed it and rebooted before installing. I'm
using Win98 with IE6. Win-S does not bring focus to DSDQ. I have not altered
search.htm in anyway.

Subject: [DQSD-Users] 'DQSDTools.KeyboardHook - Can't Install Hook' and
DEL/UP/DOWN keys

 Hi,

I have this error at startup, even if I register manually the
'DQSDTools.dll' as I have read on this mailing list. This error was
happening with v2.5.8 b8 (I had then put comments on the Hook section in
the
'postStartup()' function in 'search.htm' to avoid the error message), but
the DEL key and UP/DOWN arrows were working (never tried the hotkey
feature
though). I upgraded to v3.0 yesterday (close toolbar - uninstall 2.5.8
b8 -
reboot - install 3.0) and still got this error ; so I put comments as I
had
donne before, but neither the DEL key nor UP/DOWN arrows are working now.
