Nope, It should just be that one line by itself. Reloading would
either make the error go away or not.

If it doesn't make the error go away then it's something that that
line will not correct. In that case I would recommend you uninstall
DQSD, reboot, rename the 'Quick Search Deskbar' folder to something
else (like 'Quick Search Deskbar backup'), reinstall DQSD, reboot,
turn it back on.

If, after a clean install, you still receive the error then it
eliminates DQSD as the source of the error - leaving most likely
permissions or antivirus 'script-blocking' as the culprit. With
these I can only offer very vague advice since every computer
configuration is different.

Depending on the speed of your computer, loading DQSD can be nearly
instantaneous. On my P4-1600/512mb it loads in about a quarter
second. I have several searches disabled (mostly 'social' and
'shopping' searches which I will never use). The thing that 'takes a
while' is the dynamic generation of the DQSD menu, which on my PC
takes about 3 seconds. I can only dreadfully imagine what that is
like on a slower computer. Even though I use DQSD every waking
moment (it seems) I hate using my wife's computer (P3-850/784mb)
because searches in DQSD take up to ten seconds to load. In that
time I could have opened a browser and typed the URL in manually. Of
course, she ALWAYS has at least 50 applications open - so I can see
how her system can operate rather sluggish.

I put alertmode=0; in the LocalPrefs.js: but I still got the error message. I even
tried changing the 0 to 1, no differance. I skipped one line typed the alertmode.
Should I have put anything in front? When I reload DQSD with !>enter the message is
instantaneous, it doesn't even have to think about it. It acts like it did not read
what I put in there.

Hi Don,

> I finally got it. I am not sure how many lines this

I looked through all of it - didn't see any errors that would raise
the type of error you describe. It does have, in some cases, pretty
ugly HTML that could cause problems with searches that are
attempted, but I doubt these are raising the errors you are
experiencing. This is unrelated, and something I'll look into
resolving in the future when I have the time (ha!).

For now, if it doesn't appear to be a critical error, you can try
disabling DQSD reporting errors by adding the following to
LocalPrefs.js:

alertmode=0;

The notes from preferences.js have this to say about the alertmode
setting:

/* Changes the default alert sensitivity:
* Qualified alerts are alerts that will not display unless a
particular variable is set.
* This setting is mainly used for debugging purposes.
*  0=no qualified alerts [default]
*  1=all qualified alerts

If you have an unmodified 3.1.8 installation then you should have
the vbsx search. I wrote it and it is included in the DQSD 3.1.8
installation. If you do not know what it is then chances are you
also did not disable or remove it. Try following the directions from
my previous email and send us the code it returns. Without it there
is not a lot we can do to help you.

Here are those instructions again:

This is not necessarily a Firefox error - it could be literally
anything. What we need you to do to be able to debug it is see the
RESULTANT source of the DQSD page. You can get this by typing the
following into DQSD, then pasting what it puts on your clipboard
into Notepad, take the first 300 or so lines and paste them into a
message here. Since it doesn't return the exact code as is produced
automagically by DQSD the line number isn't accurate, but looking at
the first 300 lines (overkill as it is) will give us at least what
we need to be able to debug it.

Here's the code to put into DQSD:
  vbsx :document.body.outerHTML

This assumes that you have the "vbsx" search installed and enabled.
If you do not it won't work.

I installed the latest version of Kerio and problem solved. While I have your
attention I have one other thing that I have researched in this forum, it is a scipt
error that comes up at startup.

Internet Explorer Script Error
 line 262
 char. 7
 unspecified error
 File //C:\Program Files\Quick Search Desktop\search.htm

The opinion here was that it is a Firefox problem and the next version would fix it.
Well I have gone through several versions of Firefox and still have the box at
startup. How do I get rid of it?

Re: [DQSD-Users] Failed to parse

2004-11-02 Thread Monty Scroggins
Isn't there an option in the preferences to turn off automatic version
checking? I dont have an install in front of me here, but I thought
that was a feature that could be turned off.. This became especially
desirable when the version checking was going to the sourceforge site
and the site was having problems... Anyway I think you can just turn
off the auto version checking and you will be good to go..

No I have not installed SP2, I am waiting for the dust to clear.
I have Kerio Personal Firewall and yes you are right, I turned it off and ran a search
and no error message. Now my problem is I can not turn it back on.

That's the way it's supposed to look :) So far so good.
Have you installed Windows XP SP2? If so, is your firewall enabled? Can
you try and disable it for the sake of testing (re-enable it as soon as
you can), to see if that's what does it?

It could be that the firewall is blocking explorer.exe (Windows
Explorer) from accessing the internet, and that's why you see this
problem, but that's really just a guess.

I think the version check (along with some of the more eclectic
searches) is the only one to access the net directly, rather than firing
up a browser.

You are currently running version %lv %lt
(%ld)
 of
http://www.dqsd.net"; onclick="window.close();">Dave's Quick Search Deskbar

The searches go through alright and the program works fine which is why I don't
understand the error message.

2004-11-01 Thread Kim Gräsman
Hi Don,

Are you running the latest version, 3.1.8 (released ages ago, admittedly)?

If so, does clicking the following link work for you?

http://www.dqsd.net/version.xml

Maybe you have a software firewall/antivirus/something that blocks access to
the web somehow?

[DQSD-Users] Failed to parse

2004-10-30 Thread Don Lull
When I enter a search the search comes up ok but I get a box that says

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Failed to parse on-line version information. Error message: the system can not locate
the resource specified.
